Darryl Sutter's take on the Penalty Box.

I agree it's not the dumbest, but it's up there. I think instead of the penalty box we should suspend players in the air and lower them when penalty expires.

Please win. Living in Southwestern Ontario there is nothing worse than a Maple Leafs win over the Red Wings. Prediction: Detroit 3 Toronto 1 (Datsyuk (x2), Tatar)

If he did actually do it, I hope she did. Otherwise I hope he dropped her.

From an owner's standpoint, he's got a point. You could have the bad boy sit in Pierre's spot or in the dressing room tunnel (until right before the penalty expires) or you could have smaller boxes since we still need a place for the Men in Blac...er, Suits. On the other hand, I sat next to the visitor's penalty box once at a Wild/Red Wings game and it was the thrill of my existence to be that close to Pavel, Hank, Meech, and Drapes. It's a grand tradition of the game. I don't think anything will come of his comments, unless the boxes are just made smaller, but it's not the dumbest idea hockey has ever seen <coughinstigatorcough>.

    Babcock's Job?

We can look at wins, Stanley Cups, gold metals etc, but I think last year's cup run was really a testament to Babs' coaching skills. That roster had no business competing for the Stanley Cup and they eliminated the heavily-favorited Ducks and sent the Cup-winning team to OT of game 7.

Alfie is the only free agent I'd like to keep next offseason...rest can go

...and the crowd at the Joe for the Calgary ot win needs to be a major character in that episode, they were awesome.

Agreed. Alfie is elite. Which means, in hockey, he’s practically ageless. Sure he’s 41, but who wouldn’t take a 41 year old Lidstrom on this team right now? And yes, those 27 pts in 32 games are a big deal. He’s almost a point-per-game player this year with a team that’s struggling offensively. And it’s not like he was playing with Datsyuk right out of the gate. He was playing with a struggling Weiss and Franzen early on, and has played with Helm and Abdlekader as well. I know that he’s piling up some points on the PP. But still, pretty good year for the guy so far. Wait until he wins the cup

Doom! Gloom! The Red Wings will never be good again Muahhahahahahaha. Here's my big prediction: Remember when Pavel was the only guy out, and Nyquist finally got called up, and our lines were finally starting to gel and we beat Buffalo 3-1, and Boston 6-1, and the Islanders 5-0, and Ottawa 4-2? Well, once guys get healthy we'll see more of that. Take a deep breath boys, we'll be fine. That's my bold prediction.

We could always put opposing teams fans in the penalty box and throw peanuts at them like at the zoo.

Couldn't agree more. I hate when they put a forward in that position too, because you know there will be a cough up on the blue line and the forward will not stand a chance catching up. And don't get me started on Samuelsson...

both Jake and Anthony made the final roster today. somehow Booby Mac had Mantha on the bubble to be cut after he setup the GWG and scored the insurance goal in a 4-2 win over the fins. makes me shake my head. His play today reminded me of mule with speed.

This left-handed right-handed point man combination is so over-rated. We don't have Lidstrom and Holmstrom anymore and we can't even generate good offense on the PP from the point with Kronwall and Bertuzzi, so why try it with the second unit too. Just put two good offensive defensemen that can hold the puck in, create movement and let the young, creative forwards we have on that 2nd unit score. Kindl and Smith aren't used on the PK (sometimes Smith is if another D-man is in the box), so put them on the 2nd unit. Screw the handedness - it's bulls***.

    Tootoo called up

Cleary being played on the 4th line over Tootoo is a travesty. What does Cleary have to do to get benched? Start scoring in the wrong net? Tootoo would have more points than Cleary with his ice time and linemates over the past season.

Our team may as well have played with the red and white Griffins shield jersey. That was a hard fought win without the likes of Z, Helm, Franzen, DeKeyser, Weiss, Nyquist, Abdelkader, Howard….2 lines, and our starting goalie. Nuff said I think.

of course...he was energy...we don't need that on this team.

This is promising: Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive22m DeKeyser at the left point on 2nd power play unit with Eaves at right point. Could be DeKeyser is ready to play and Kindl may be scratched?

    Babcock's Job?

Even though they are both to varying degrees overrated, I'd rather lose Ken Holland than Mike Babcock any day.

I was at the game last night, and if I could have come down lower I might have considered it. But I was at the top of the lower bowl behind our goal. The one problem I have with that place is their handicapped/wheelchair seating. It stinks. There isn't enough room for a wheelchair to negotiate easily. Of course a lot of people don't help much. They push, they don't look where they are going, they run into my hubby's chair (and him), and they just don't care. I hope this new arena (proposed) does better with handicapped/wheelchair accessibility. As far as the game, though, I thought Pasha was great on that 5-on-3 situation. They were crap calls (especially the one on Brendan Smith), but we made as much good out of it as was possible, I suppose.

I agree. Its not even that they're losing, but the way they are losing, and add to that, you're paying a buttload of cash to basically watch the Grand Rapids Griffins. Never really liked the premise that somehow those in the nosebleed seats are "better" fans than those in the lower bowl.

It's sh*tty, there's no doubt about it. But compared to Lions or Tigers fans, Wings fans have always been a bit fickle. It doesn't surprise me that people aren't showing up the way we've been playing. I mean hell, look at how many on our fan forum have sworn on and off them the last few weeks. Now imagine the feeling of the casual suburban potential ticket buyer. Everybody around here expects them to win, and if they don't they're chopped liver. Sad but true. The Wings aren't the Lions, they actually have to do something positive to get fan support.
