Or we could just play Brendan on the wing and refer to him as "Reilly." BABCOCK: Hey, that puck's gotta go deep, Reilly! B. SMITH: I'm not my brother! BABCOCK: I've noticed!

I was seriously just thinking the same thing. I'm having a lot of fun watching these games. And while I'll be crushed if the USA doesn't bring home the gold, the good thing is that I'll still not feel as terrible as I did at the end of the 2009 playoffs...so there's really no downside.

I wonder if they will let Ovie sell souvenirs while he just stands in one spot all game...

I feel bad for Z. FWIW, I have had back problems since I was around 20 (almost 28 now), and I can go months or longer being just fine, and then the dumbest, seemingly innocuous thing will happen and I will have to start all over. I am a funeral director so I do a lot of heavy lifting all the time and be great and then I will take the slightest slip on some ice or lift a laundry basket or something not even worth noting to myself and it will start. Sometimes it is even 2-3 days before the inflammation kicks in to cause pain. For all we know, the long plane ride could have been enough on Z. I hope he has a productive, long-term recovery, not only for his hockey career but for his lifetime.

Dude, you're barking up the wrong tree. Fact is, the Franzen hate around here makes no sense and never will. Somewhere along the line Franzen got a certain reputation and people ran with it. Now they spend all their time trying to justify this hate post hoc with a variety of silly reasons. Franzen's a floater (he isn't, you don't score as often as he does by not playing), Franzen's streaky (he isn't, or at least not more so than Zetterberg who typically has longer scoring droughts than Franzen), Franzen doesn't play defense (he does, in fact he's so responsible Babs has been using him on the PK), Franzen's contract will be horrible when he's 40 (maybe, but so will every other back diving contract like his. What makes him different?) Franzen's injury prone (he isn't, at least no more so than Dats and Zetterberg and far less so than Kronwall) Now, here's the funny part. People say all these things about Franzen, and then when he's playing and scoring and making a difference (which is nearly every game) you say "I thought Franzen was a bum" and they'll reply "Well he isn't a bum NOW, because he's trying". Soooooo stupid.

Cbc announcer always is saying stuff like they've really tightened that box, that's a tight box, Russia can't get into that tight box, or my favourite creepy one, oh Ya, look at that tiny little box.

I'm starting to suspect that there's no love lost between the Eastern European teams and Russia. It's almost like they've got a history or something.

Love, love, love these USA jerseys!

Its true hockey benefits enormously as a whole. CNN has Oshie on the ront-page, everyonen is talkitng about what a great game that was. Fans in Europe are getting a chance to watch their countrymen at much better manageable hours, which again benefits the sport. Going to the Olympics does so much more for the game than things like putting hockey into areas that don't even know what snow is. So good for Kaner to speak it out take that Ed moron Snider.

Test chemistry. Babs changed lines during the Austria game a couple times that way when it comes down to elimination game they know who for sure is playing and who is not. However, Kunitz should be sitting. Nash has been pretty bad too.

There are so many things wrong here its stunning. 1 - if they are injured that seriously they would just stay on LTIR until their contracts were up and that last buyout could be used on Tootoo who continues to cost the team money while having no chance of playing any time soon. 2 - If a player is injured they CANNOT be bought out. 3 - There is no situation where buying out either of those players makes sense. 4 - letting them retire is better for the team financially than buying out either one. 5 - there is no indication that either player is injured seriously enough that their careers are in jeopardy.

Losing in hockey maybe, but losing to the US feeds into the bigger hatred the US and Russia have always had for each other. I agree with you that the game itself didn't mean a whole lot but losing to the US did. So let's not compare losing to the US team with losing to the Czechs, Fins, or especially France(not even in the knockout stage) it's not even close just like beating the US team would be a huge win for Russia. It wasn't the gold medal match but let's not minimize it either. The Cold War may have died down but with Putin coming back the Cold War has reignited again, but this forum is no place to talk about anything but hockey. In general Russia doesn't like the US, they don't like losing to the US and love winning against the US. Which makes it debatable whether they hate to lose more to Canada or the US.

Y'know who's pretty good? Brendan Smith...'s younger brother. Last I checked, he's on pace for around 25 goals. And he's only 22 years old.

And after the Boston GM is done laughing at you, he'll tell you he'll give you a 4th round pick for Quincey.
  19. 1 point
That doesn't get you much. Quincey is a UFA and sucks, Almqvist has proven nothing, as is his value and the 1st is middle of the pack for now and might be a late pick depending on how the Wings finish.

I genuinely thought about saying we should target Oshie, but I thought it would be overboard considering I've pumped his tires in two other threads. But don't think I didn't consider it.

    Upgrade The Defense Rumours

Finally made an account on this forum just for this post, after months of reading anonymously. At the beginning of this season, I was all for trading a Nyquist or Tatar for someone that could help the D. Given the circumstances at that time, we had a bunch of offensive players and forwards, to the extent that neither would play, and we had an expected to be, weak D. An upgrade there via player that couldn't crack the lineup would have been massive. Fast forward to now, where Nyquist, and the Tatar/Sheahan/Jurco line has been the brightest spot for this team, I'm almost to the point where I'd say stay put unless someone is basically giving up a Dman. Our defense isn't the best, but Smith has improved tremendously in the past 20-25 games, on top of Kronner, E and DK. It'd have to be a Letang or Subban that got me to give up a Gus or Tats or anyone closely rated in that area
