3/9 GDT: Red Wings at Rangers

A win: "This team could be a contender when we're healthy!" A loss: "We suck, we have no good players and everything is awful"

I don't know how any of you could possibly know what type of player he's going to be one way or another. People used to have the same arguments about Tatar and Nyquist, and before that Filppula and Hudler. Fact is, you just don't know this early in his career what type of player he's going to be. Secondly, it's entirely possible that he could be BOTH a big time player in the NHL as one of you suggested and a 40-60 pt. player as the other suggested. If Jarnkrok was scoring 25-30 goals a season and another 25-30 assists PLUS good defense wouldn't that make him a "big time player"? Stop arguing, neither of you know what he'll turn into and truthfully you're both pretty close to each other when you decide to speculate what he'll be. Truth is, we traded long term potential for short term gain. Apparently Holland believed it was preferable to lose the potential of a top flight center (Jarnkrok's upside) for a chance to sneak into the playoffs this year. Personally, I think it's a bad decision but you're welcome to disagree. But to try and make it seem like Jarnkrok was a B prospect, or that Legwand is a horrible trade (or a savior of one), is both incorrect and intellectually beneath each of you.

Luongo's still seen much crazier stuff in Vancouver.

    If Kronwall isn't a #1

See that's why I've said the guy is extremely underrated. The reason why Keith can do what he does is Seabrook, the guy is like an insurance for every mistake ie. the former Suter/Weber pairing. The thing with Chara is because of his enormous size he is looking slow but watch this guy skate and shutdown the best of them. This is nothing against Kronwall I like him but I just don't think he is a top 10 but for sure not top 5 defenseman. Since Suter left the Predators I don't think Weber is the best one anymore I think Keith and Pietrangelo will soon be better if they aren't already, although if Weber plays like in the olympics there would be no debate that was insane.

For obvious cap reasons I'd go with 2 scoring and 2 checking lines, so a true top bottom 6 kind of approach. An advantage would be the cheaper third and fourth lines so more money for the top 6 and top pairing. The fourth line would be the energy line, used whenever things are getting out of hand and to produce energy. The third line would be a mixture of grit and youth.

The question with Smith-Kindl as well, isn't talent. it is between the ears. But and always keep this in mind: D take longer to develop. Always has been the case. Why? Who knows, but they do.

I was at the game Every line sucked. I think there was maybe 2 scoring chances for them the whole game. No one showed up. Fun experience though seeing all them in person

i did suggest we should have traded Howard for Miller but got flack. Jimmy is very inconsistent to say the least, I would have give Miller a 2 year deal for his home state team and Jimmy could have gone home to NY in Buffalo! Mrazek could back up Miller for 2 years and then take over full time. Monster is just to injury prone to be relied on. I still say trade Jimmy in the off season to get the top D would have to be in a package as the way he's played one for one wont get it done. No good being sentimental, if he struggles from now till the end of the season we need to move him on, if we have any takers.

can't wait for Babcock's assessment of the game: 'oh, well, I thought we did a lot of good things, except for you know, defend and score' 'we'll look after it'

The Wings desperately needed a center, Holland went out and got the best one available for this team. We don't know if he had to add Jarnkrok or that 3rd rounder because some other team also made an offer and that was what it took to make the trade. What's done is done and now this team has a fighting chance to make the playoffs. I just hope Legwand re-signs after this season because that would give this team incredible center depth when healthy.

    If Kronwall isn't a #1

The problem with Kronwall is simple: the guy is asked to run the damn PP and HE isn't that type of guy period he should focus more on a shutdown role and be a physical force again. Where are his so impressive crushing open ice hits? You know the stuff Phaneuf and him are known for. Guys who are clearly better: Chara - *lol* at the notion that this guy is overrated he is an absolute monster and can do it all Pietrangelo B. Seabrook - this is one of the most underrated guys in the whole league, he rarely makes a mistake and gets the job done quietly Keith Suter Weber Letang Doughty Bouwmeester Yandle McDonagh Phaneuf bold = elite, so yeah Kronwall is around ~ 12 good but not in the top group and for sure not elite

Alfredsson moved his whole family to Detroit. If he wasn't serious about staying, the family could have lived in Ottawa. I think he'll play another year or two, and he should. He's been great.

I just took a look at the last two goals Pulkkinen scored. Those are unbelievable shots. We saved ourselves a better player in this trade.

No one's arguing that Calle's not playing well in the AHL or that he doesn't have NHL upside. Holland's responsibility is to keep Detroit in the hunt. He's not going to stand pat and throw in the season towel just so we can horde B caliber prospects.

what secret stuff? what details? it's all in the replay, bertuzzi punches moore, moore falls, a bunch of guys dogpile on causing moore to get injured. the coach had told bertuzzi to fight him and exact revenge. end of story, Moor would have been a 4th line scrub for a few years before being phased out of the nhl, he will be lucky to get a few million out of this lawsuit

Eaves really is the man. Never disliked him. For his price tag he did his job very well.

I miss him and this but hope all the best and gets to play lots!

Wish nothing but the best for him. Wouldn't mind having him around but I'd rather see him get a chance to be a regular somewhere else than be scratched with us.
