4 pointsIMO this was always a freak accident. Sure Bertuzzi shouldn't have thrown the cheap shot, but there are plenty of on-par or worse cheap shots that have been thrown in the NHL. The only difference is this one happened to end with the unthinkable. The result was certainly not Bertuzzi's intention, just like no player intends to end a career when they go airborne on a hit, or throw an elbow, or slam a head into the boards, or uppercut an opponents face. The intent is always to harm, but never this. The problem is 1/somelargenumber end up like this. That's the reality of fast contact sports that condones fighting. I hope that moore can get what he needs, but I also don't think that Bertuzzi should be burned at the stake for his actions. This has been hashed out a million times, but It's late and I've been drinking.

3 pointsReports indicate that San Jose wanted to trade Thronton earlier this offseason, but Thornton said no (he has a no trade clause). I think this is SJ's way of getting him to back-down from that stance. Kind of a d*** move if you ask me, Thornton loves SJ, and as a result took a hometown discount (6.75mil over next 3 years), then 5 months later they try to trade him??? 7 months later strip him of the C??? You didn't want him, don't sign him. As much as fans hate Holland for the Cleary signing, these are the types of things players remember. A team like Detroit has a reputation of taking care of its own, SJ now look like a team who don't give a crap.

Sharks post-season is always a disappointing spectacle... perhaps they thought they would start out the year in chaos, and reverse psychology would kick in? -

Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**

Wanted to add something to this: Zone Entries and the Red Wings [Winging It In Motown] So, again, something as seemingly small as Andersson playing a greatly elevated role for a game or two due to injuries - that alone was, perhaps, the difference between the Pens and Bruins in the first round. Point being, again, it's easy to say the glass is half-empty for the Wings and that they're barely a playoff team in the weak East. But I personally believe that's selling the team - and its architect - short. -

Oh but of course their cash cow HUT will still be there, so they can have their $20 player card pack deals and bank on those every week. EA has proven time and time again that money is top priority. I've been playing versus since Sega Genesis hockey games. For me it's run it's course, that's why I loved EASHL so much because it was an entirely different way to play the game. With full human control, there is no "glitching" or exploiting the AI goaltender all game with short side high corner goals that go in 100% of the time if you shoot from the right area of the ice. With the human element there, 6 human players versus 6 human players, it's true competition and team work to succeed and win games. NHL 13 and 14 combined, I had about 2,700 EASHL games played, got my Legend 3 card within the first 6 weeks of the games release and played it around 5 times a week. Now I gotta find something new to binge out on when i'm bored at night and looking to game. -

Nope. He would just post congratulations Cleary on taking us for fools, and never post again until next year. -
1 pointI very much think they're trying a rebuild on the fly. The only difference is we are already a few years into ours, and they are just starting theirs this year. Also, we are going the classy route and letting our core retire here. They are not. Albeit, of their vet core (Thornton, Marleau, Boyle) only Marleau is a career Shark and that group never brought the team a cup, unlike our Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall core. So they let Boyle go, and are now probably trying to trade Thornton, so they can pass the torch to the new core of Pavelski, Couture, and Vlasic. This last season seemed to have been their old groups last chance before they were ready to commit to a retool.
-
1 pointIn addition to taking the C away from Marleau back when they gave it to Thornton, in the story you it says they also this time stripped him of the A. So Marleau when from being captain, to an assistant captain, to nothing..........way to treat your players San Jose. They are lucky they are not a huge market, if they were a Toronto or New York etc. the media would be all over this story.

Sharks enter training camp with no C or A's

They also did this to Marleau in favor of Thornton. Maybe they should figure out something else instead of killing morale within their own club. -
1 pointIMO, and this is coming from a spoiled Red Wing standpoint, once you give a guy a C you mark him as that for his career. You don't take it back and you don't trade him (Unless things go horribly wrong). If you do either of those you probably shouldn't have given that guy a C in the first place, or you should have just rolled with 3 A's. I personally think they should have just let him keep it until they trade him. If I was him I'd be pissed if my C was stripped from me and handed to Pavelski near the end of my career, and as they continue to expect the best from me.

Trial date set in Steve Moore’s lawsuit against Todd Bertuzzi

There is still a chance for this going going to trial according to Westhead. Although the nhl would be really stupid letting that happen they are going to lose and still be in the news for all the wrong reasons. -

Couldn't agree more. I really miss that too. Shame that Fischer got injured too nearly died and had to retire, we could have used that toughness on the back end. Glad to see that he's doing good though. And yea, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets 10 games, but if he's truly being outplayed in training camp by the likes of Jurco and Pulkkinen, I can't believe the Wings would play him? -

J-S Giguere to announce retirement
haroldsnepsts reacted to FireCaptain for a post in a topic
It's OFFICIAL (unlike that damn on-again/off-again Bertuzzi settlement) JSG is retiring from the NHL. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=728823&cmpid=nhl-fb His pads are slotted in at a couple teams' training camps but if they can't find a job, they'll likely retire too. -

But we are rebuilding Frank. It's just happening slowly and with less drastic effects, as the Wings are filtering in the young guys into the lineup to compliment and eventually succeed, the vets. I would still prefer to make the playoffs every year than go the traditional rebuild route where you don't even sniff a winning record for half a decade. But that's me. -

It's pretty hilarious that Kovalev of all people would call out a player. Especially the part about scoring 5 goals but allowing 5 goals. Maybe check your career +/- there Alex. The guy embodied the lazy Russian stereotype when he played. I guess he's not been getting enough attention lately? -

I'm not a fan, was never a fan. That usually means they did something to significantly damage us with their skill in the past. Glad to see you go Giguere, but at the same time, part of me was glad to witness parts of your career.
