The GM has had the exact same philosophy since he took over the position in 1997 and it's been pretty successful. I'm not sure why you think he should change it for the coach all of a sudden. We have drafted and developed based on skill for 20+ years. Our organization (from top to bottom) is founded upon it, our scouts are some of the best in the world at seeing a guy like Gustav Nyquist and imagining what he'll be when he matures. You want them to stop doing that and change the whole organizational philosophy because you don't like it? So what? It works. Secondly, stop with the ******* hyperbole will you? Nobody "traded the future" for anything. We've got so many NHL ready prospects we can't get them all into the lineup, and we've got even better prospects coming. It would be a lot easier to talk to you if didn't constantly distort reality to justify some anodyne point you're stuck on for the day.

    LGW Moderator Problems

I personally don't see much of a problem with the moderation. In terms of the thread that was locked in GDT, the vast majority of us saw where that thread was headed just based on the OP. People commented, gave their opinions, things started going sour, and the mods still kept the thread alive, based on what small chance that it had of actually succeeding. This warning came amidst a sespool of attacks that had nothing to do with the topic at hand. After the warning, instead of trying to get the thread back on topic, the subject abruptly changes to discussing how terrible the moderation is.... In a Jimmy Howard thread (that in actuality was a Jimmy Howard bashing thread). I really don't see why people are suprised or angry that that particular thread was closed. As for the particular post of the guy eating popcorn (or whatever it was) that was an immediate response to the initial warning, I probably personally wouldn't have deleted it, but I'm also not a mod that has to deal with cleaning up our garbage every day, so I might be a little naive. But even going off of basic thread etiquette that post was further detailing and already fragile thread. That kind of stuff had better chance of staying alive in a healthier thread, not one where the mods are already pissed off.

    Monthly schedule wallpapers?

Came to LGW to get my wallpaper on for October, and can't find anything. Is Matt or anyone else making monthly wallpapers? They are much better than anything I have the talent to make. Go Wings!

IMO the logic is, hire dirty players to catch dirty players. Just like they hire cheats in Vegas to catch cheats in Vegas. It makes sense to me... Pronger and Shanahan understand the physical game better than most and know when a player is just being physical or going too far. If they hired a guy like Crosby everyone would have foam wrapped around them, and players would get a game misconduct for inflicting an ouchy to an opposing player.

I'm not mad as long as we're winning. I just don't think it's some big mystery why we're not scoring much. And I completely agree with you that those guys have been impressive. They've played the game they're supposed to. That game just happens not to be very offensive. Ideal lines... Z-Pav-Jurco Franzen-Weiss-Nyquist Abby-Sheahan-Tatar Miller-Helm-Glendening Kronwall-Ericsson Smith-Dekeyser Quincey-Kindl That's with everyone healthy and no roster changes. Obviously, if I could start waiving guys and promoting guys then it would change a little, but not much.

I check the forums multiple times a day for the wallpaper too. Looking forward to the ones this year, Matt makes them better and better each year.

It's an easy play to get incensed about because it was the game winner and it was there was a questionable no call. But, truth be told it was flukey and it'll even out at some point. Much more troubling to me were the two seemingly routine plays that ended up in the back of our net. Howard and Smith's turnovers were both due to an inability to handle the forecheck effectively. It's a problem we had last year too. Babs needs to get that sorted out pronto, because unlike flukey no-calls, and defensemen toe picks, this problem is likely to repeat itself over and over as other teams realize the best way to beat Detroit is to forecheck the hell out of us.

I disagree with this statement and here's why. Both games we played against 2 top 10 teams in the NHL and we outplayed both of them, not to mention we haven't looked this good (small sample size) since 2009. We have a perfect blend of elite players, mixed with up and coming kids, and the 4th line is playing fantastic and causing havoc. Our D have been pinching in and making good plays, which hasn't been done since Rafalski, Lids, Kronner and Stuart days. We are fine, it's only 2 games into the season and I say that will full confidence. We aren't going 82-0.

Datsyuk's bolting for Russia!!! Babcock's bolting for a team that can win the cup yesterday!!! Sensationalist journalism is all it is. The guy is not negotiating his contract during the season, but said he doubts he's leaving. We're gonna have to wait. He's a pretty level headed guy though who speaks what he means from all that I've gathered over the years. If he said "I don't know if I'll be a Wing next year or not" I'd be 50/50 worried/notworried. But he said he thinks he'll be here, this should be in the back of our minds just like it is in his.

Part of the responsibility is on the forwards as well. I watch LA and they'll make 3-4 quick passes in the defensive zone and then fire up the outlet. Look and recognize the safe play that will give you space. Forwards have to be back as an option. Puck support in all three zones To be honest I don't think we've been that bad. Smith's play was just a brain fart, an attempted quick pass for a forward but nobody was supporting. Howard had plenty of time and Kronwall just has to stay on his feet. We had time to make a play just goofed it I do agree we don't handle a tough forecheck well. You can tell the wings are playing well when they're making those quick one touch passes to break down the forecheck. They made a lot of smart plays like that against Boston, not so much against Anaheim

I largely agree, but you're right, I hate that third line. Weiss isn't going to get going if you give him two linemates who have never played on the wing for any significant amount of time, and haven't ever really been known for offensive production when at their natural positions. Putting Weiss with nonscorers means he's got to shoulder the offensive load, which is the exact opposite of easing him into it until his confidence returns. Give him wingers or trade/waive him. Carolina would pick him up tomorrow (all their centers are hurt and they suck). Anyway, heading out for the night. Good talking to you though.

Maybe you could make up some stats that keep track of why your content gets deleted. For example, PIO - Personally insulting others BAW - Bickering after warning ALD - Acting like dick TC% - Trolling content % Just off the top of my head...

Are you kidding? Did you miss what just happened that prompted the opening of this thread? Or do I need to link you back to it to "cite a reference" EDIT: Also it's kinda hard to link back to something when it no longer exists because a mod already came through and scrubbed the record clean.

This Since Q is getting paid $4.25m I guess that for Boychuk $5m/$5,5m should be enough.

Between 2006-2012 Weiss never played less then 74 games in a year. In 2013 he did miss half the season, but with a broken wrist which is not an injury you need to worry about following you moving forward. When Holland signed him he was not injury prone, sure he missed a couple games here and there, but other then the wrist thing he didnt miss significant time for years. Nobody could have predicted he would have the groin issue he has last year.

He's only played 26 games as a Red Wing.....26. Again, he's only played 26 games as a Red Wing. I can't imagine why anyone has written him off after only ~32% of a single season. It's just utter nonsense.

So solid in fact that I have barely notices him in the first two games. Which always is a good thing. I've been really impressed with lots of guys and just the overall team in general. Franzen has been the best for me thus far. Being physical, coming back defensively, making an effort every shift and actually setting up quite a few goals. Him with Z and Gus looked really good for the short time they've been put together. Once Datsyuk comes back I'd love to see the 3 of them stay together but we'll see what happens.

Still rooting against a guy the Wings have signed for YEARS for MILLIONS. Makes no sense.

That's what happens when you rush a kid. I don't know why people want the Wings to trade for a young defenseman. I'm all for moving Kindl, but they have Ouellet, Jensen, Marchenko, Sproul, and Backman already.

    Coach's video challenge

To me, reviewing penalties can drastically change the outcome of a game. See; Oct 11,2014. I also remember another game, not even sure if it was the wings; (pretty sure it was) but crosby took a high stick from one of his own teammates and was awarded a 4 minute powerplay for high sticking. It could also be used to review dives and see if there was actual contact with the stick between legs for trips and stuff. The game is played faster then any other sport, theres nothing wrong with slowing it down for a second to correct a mistake.

Yes that loss stings a little but really is there a reason to complain here if you're a wings fan? I honestly thought they played brilliantly and deserved to win the game. They're showing so much energy, speed and desire, and they responded physically to the challenge of the Ducks. Multiple times we saw guys (abby, Helm, Smith, Franzen etc) throw the body around and its great to see. Hell, when Kesler tried to take Smith's head off, Glendening was right there shoving Kesler down telling him to go **** himself. The only thing hurting the Wings right now is a few costly defensive mistakes, but with time, if they keep playing this way, those will fade. We'll be getting Pavel back probably by next weekend at the earliest and that's also a great sign as it gives us more offensive firepower and depth. The kids have all played great thus far, and our D is looking much better than last year. I'm really liking the DeKeyser/Smith pairing and have thought they've both been solid. Like i said, theres been a couple costly turnovers the first two games, and as such pretty much all our opponents goals have come off of Red Wings mistakes. That can only be good because if we cut down/eliminate most of these, while continuing to play with speed and energy then we're in really good shape to be honest.

    Fedor Malykhin

I don't know much about this Malykhin guy, other than a few articles I've read but as far as Jarnkrok goes, I think Nosek is our replacement for him. And to be honest I think he has a good chance at being a better player than Jarnkrok. He definitely has the size advantage and he absolutely has the skills. I really like what I've seen from him thus far in training camp and preseason. He's in the lineup tonight and I expect him to get on the scoresheet at least once.
