Per Khan "The move enables Ouellet to join the team on its annual Fathers/Mentors trip with his dad, Robert, a former professional hockey player in France and Germany. Ouellet is not expected to play Thursday in Colorado - coach Mike Babcock said he was not making any lineup changes from last Saturday's game - but he might play Saturday at Arizona. A roster spot opened for Ouellet when goaltender Tom McCollum was reassigned to the Griffins. Jonas Gustavsson, already on the active roster, was scheduled to join the Red Wings in Denver on Wednesday night. He completed his two-game conditioning stint for the Griffins earlier in the day, making 30 saves in a 3-1 victory at the Toronto Marlies. Gustavsson, who suffered a dislocated shoulder on Nov. 5, stopped 59 of 62 shots in going 1-1 for the Griffins." http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/02/red_wings_recall_xavier_ouelle_1.html

Gotta hand it to this Leafs fan. His team may suck but he loves them anyways

Do you find it even remotely ironic that the guy who supposed wants to "pretend the horrible Choice never happened" is also the same guy who won't shut up about it?

What should we do with the Monster?

Monster and XO were just called up. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/02/red_wings_recall_xavier_ouelle_1.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+detroit-redwings+%28Detroit+Red+Wings+-+MLive.com%29 Looks like they had a spot for XO and he is being called up out of respect for his play and an invite extended to his father for the mentoring trip. man the wings are a class act.

He's a RH shot, which Detroit needs. He puts up points from the back end, something else Detroit is looking for. He clearly seems to be a top 4 caliber guy in general. He's big enough not to get pushed around. He shouldn't cost anywhere near what a guy like Yandle would. And, he's not injury prone like Green. Is it only the unknown about his future contract that is turning people off?.... because he seems to check a lot of boxes.

Toronto does everything absolutely backward. If they aren't giving a guy a contract, that's almost a full fledged endorsement. Seriously, if you use Toronto contract offers (and their worth) to form your impressions of players, then you'd have to conclude David Clarkson and Dion Phaneuf are REALLY good, and Cody Franson is garbage. The actions of David Nonis should never...ever...be a guidepost for accurately formulating opinions. Ever.

What Mabus said. With Mule on IR, they're only carrying 13 forwards right now. They promised Ouellet he could go on the father-son trip, thus the call-up.

Probably not. But it's fun to pretend.

    Great Brandon Prust Article

I'm a fan of guys like this, Chris Neil, Cal Clutterbuck (not so much a fighter but man does he hit), guys who have a strong physical presence but actually have a bit of offensive skill and can put up a few points per season unlike guys like Konopka. Clutterbuck was the short handed point leader on the Wild 2 straight seasons I believe, was great on the PK, and still showed the ability to put up some points. I think he makes a good point, that if you eliminate fighting from the game, it takes the fear out of players a bit more to lay out hard hits and cheap shots to other players when the only risk is a fine and/or suspension opposed to getting your face bashed in and answering for the physical output they inflicted. I also respect the drive, it's like any job, if you aren't succeeding in a certain role, take on a different one and see if you can improve your value and make your presence known by gaining more tools. Guys like Prust dig in hard, give it their all every night because if they don't, they risk potentially losing their spot to someone else that can contribute more.

    Great Brandon Prust Article

I like fighting. I miss the days when if we were losing 5-1 somebody would give the fans something to cheer for. But Prust himself admits that he's out to run people. The only difference between he and a rat is that he'll fight. His job essentially is protecting his team from people like himself.

Woah, whoa, whoa slowdown there man... who are you to call someone out on their viewing habits? Maybe if you paid attention you'd see that krsmith17 has readily admitted that he watches a TON of Leafs games because his GF is a Toronto fan. Now, in my book, that's a tough thing to admit... so the fact that he has should be worth it's weight in gold (or at least bitcoin) for internet credibility. On top of that, you don't have to watch EVERYSINGLELEAFSGAME to get a good sampling of what Franson is and is not. He didn't say he's watched "every individual play" he said, "followed his individual play closely" which means, he's scouted the guy. He's on good basis with his abilities, his positives, his shortcomings, etc. Reading fully, and maybe more than once helps with formulating clarity in your posts, responses, etc.

    TANK IT! 2014-2015 Season

This is literally the best post I've ever read. In all seriousness, I love this thread. I also love how the metric for success seemed to change and eventually disappear. First, it was "we should tank the season, because this team is so terrible it won't even be exciting." Then it became, "we may be winning now, but it won't last." Then it became, "the season is a failure if we don't make it past X round in the playoffs." Now, the negative contingent has resorted to saying that everyone else thinks Holland is God. For the record, I know most of us have been critical of Kenny at some point, but one thing is clear: he is way better at his job than any of us are.

OK, I'll be entirely honest and say Franson is better than Green, Yandle, and Myers. Green: Injury history plus there's a reason he's regulated to the third pairing by the caps under a defensive minded coach (much like ours). Yandle: Lefty and will still command a hefty trade return. Myers: Sucks Franson: Righty physical puck mover, exactly what we've been missing, and the asking price is cheap. Or does the name Franzon cut to close to home for some of you?

Even if you don't like him, he's beyond a steal for the current asking price.

Yep when I think of Hockey Players Prust is one of the guys who immediately comes in mind he is tough, humble, honest, physical and a great leader. Every hockey team would be better with such players on their team.

I mean, a second round pick is pretty much all Holland is willing to give up, so Holland is happy. Franson is a right handed defenseman so Babcock is happy. People can still satisfy their urge to yell at their TVs about a Franson/Franzen screwing up, even with Franzen on IR, so LGW is happy. It's a win win win situation! edit: a second round pick for Franson seems kinda low, especially if we're talking about a potential intradivisional trade. If he goes for just a second rounder, I'll be shocked.
  24. 1 point
A second isn't too much to pay. If teams are asking the world for a guy, then wait and sign him later, but if the price is reasonable you should get the jump on it. Aside from the fact that he'd be useful for our playoff run, there's no guarantee we'll be as good next year as we are this year. What if we wait and injuries are a problem again? Or Jimmy has a bad year? Or Babs leaves and we've got a rookie coach? If teams want you to overpay, then wait until the offseason. If they want a second for Cody Franson, give them the second plus Landon Ferraro and kill two birds with one stone lol.

How about a first in the form of a former first rounder? ...Kindl.
