I personally have not joined richdg's bandwagon and think Quincey is bolstering DK. He'll be out of the NHL in a year so we should trade him now with the hype. -

I get the pairings thing, but if we need a real impact player, won't he just play with Smith too? Mike needs to get over Kronwall-Ericsson, that big dope has cost us a lot of points this year, not just tonight. He's best served as a 4/5. I honestly don't think Holland will make a move, but Petry would be a good fit. I realize being the best of a bad bunch isn't the most glowing endorsement, but I see the guy a lot being out west and he's under appreciated to say the least. MacTavish is a guy who thinks Justin Schultz could win a Norris afterall We're probably arguing over nothing though, because the pairs going into the playoffs are probably going to be the same as tonight give or take an Xavier Oullet sighting. -

I just want to say I don't care if it's another loss against a top team. That was a close ******* game. I'm still happy with this team. Howard, in just his second game back from injury, held a top team to no goals for over 57 minutes. This was a close game that could've easily gone either way. I'm not worried about this team and am still thoroughly excited about this team's chances in the playoffs. -

Ericsson wanders, Nyquist over pursues, Datsyuk slips, and Howard over plays to one side and it's another loss to Montreal. Brutal, I ******* hate the Habs and all their goddamn divers. It's only getting harder from here, gonna have to dig their way out. -

Next Number to be retired
roboturner and one other reacted to GMRwings1983 for a post in a topic
Get off your pony. I didn't say he sucked. I just don't think his number belongs up there with the other players the Wings have in the rafters. Most posters here and most knowledgeable hockey people would agree with me that Osgood isn't a Sawchuk or a Lindsey or a Lidstrom. I also don't seem him being in the HHOF. Osgood is a very good goalie that will never be considered an elite goalie. He was never one of the two or three best goalies in the league. He never won the Vezina. Hell, I think he was only top 3 in Vezina voting once in his career. He is above most of his peers, but below the top echelon of his peers like Hasek, Roy, Brodeur and Belfour. Some would rank him below Cujo as well, despite the latter's lack of team accomplishments. His numbers are impressive and reflect a great career, but much in the same way that Dave Andreychuk's numbers or Dino Ciccarelli's numbers reflect a great career. Yet, those guys are unable to crack the HHOF or be considered among the greatest forwards in league history. It's not just about numbers. But hey, those are all dumb arguments, because kipwinger doesn't like them. Let's retire Ozzie number and proclaim him a top 10 all time goalie. -

1 pointI mentioned this in another thread and ill say it again. Concussions lead to brain damage if occurred too many times. Technically the standard is if you get it once, make sure u dont get it again. It basically leads to rupture of neurons (brain cells) Franzen has gotten it way too many times. He should seriously consider retiring if he cares about his own health. - I work in the medical field. Not a huge fan when i see kids showing up with this.

But special teams and goaltending win playoff series. Anyway, the Habs have issues of their own. Bottom 3rd in goals for. That's not good enough to go all the way. -

The Wings are close, but man I just don't know if they have enough to beat any of the other teams in the division in a seven game series. Especially when the games become tight and low scoring, who is going to score an ugly goal? Because the defense will probably mess up first, like they did tonight. Need some size on the wing and obviously a top pairing d-man. But that has been five years running, so it's either wait it out for the prospects or get active in the trade market. Because right now, the Wings are still a couple pieces away from true contention. Mind you, they are still fun to watch most nights and better than expected. These past two and the next six games though could be a real indicator of how far they have to go yet. -

I'm glad Helm has more confidence, but 95% of the time when he tries to dangle or make a move, he turns the puck over. -
1 pointAgreed. I've seen the boys carry the play all night then have one lapse or bad call in the third cost them far too many times over the years. Time to come out hard and torch Price's GAA in a big way in the third.

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?
jimmyemeryhunter reacted to frankgrimes for a post in a topic
I think their knowledgable fans really deserve better, the obvious "I jump on the players bandwagon when he's good but will give him hell if he makes a mistake" bandwagoners don't. Franson just talked about the whole pressure there, I mean having 30 guys in the room even after practice ? That's insane like freaking insane. Also I'm not sure what Shanahan is doing there, they've acquired another cocky heavily undersized kid ind Leipsic...are they trying to become the smurfs ? Instead of such a hard hitting fun to watch in your face team, which made the playoffs and almost beat Boston with that type of game ?Personally I wouldn't trade for or draft anybody under at least ~ 190 lbs. -

I bitched about the Tootoo, Sammy, Cleary, Quincey, etc. signings, trades, and re-signs. I was convinced that Holland was past it and didn't have any fresh ideas. Apparently he knew a little bit more than I did just how good his prospects were. Now our team is pretty legit. And we're certainly positioned to be VERY good in the next couple of years. So I've got to admit I was 100% wrong about Holland. At this point, when it comes to building a team, developing players, or acquiring talent, I'm going to defer to the guy who's got four Stanley Cup rings sitting on his mantle. -
1 pointEvery analyst considered Weiss a top UFA. This is what the UFA has turned into. Guys like Seguin, Stamkos, Weber etc. are not hitting UFA anymore. http://www.mynhltraderumors.com/free-agents/2013-top-30-nhl-free-agents/ Above is a link ranking the top UFA of 2013, Weiss is ranked #4 player (non goalie). The 3 above him, Lecavalier, Filppula, and Clarkson. I would say he is easily #2 on that list now despite his struggles. Again, this is what UFA has become, hence my issue with throwing stupid amounts of money in a cap system at average-pretty good players. You are right, Hossa was 29 when he signed, Weiss was 30. I should have double checked myself rather than take someone else’s word for it. But the point of that, was that Weiss was also in his prime just like Hossa, so that point still stands. Holland can throw out offer-sheets all he wants, team will just match, we all know this. All this does is hurt a GM's relationship with other GM's. We already have a hard enough time trading because we are the Wings, this is the last thing I want to do. I can’t even remember the last offer sheet that went through. My solution: Keep producing talent and let these kids take over for D & Z. We have so many good young players, I’m not going to dismiss them because "I don’t want to get my hopes up so I won’t be disappointed". We are currently sitting just a few points out of first seed in the conference (and that's with D missing 11 games). If it was just D & Z that were good on our team, this would not be the case. This is getting off topic anyways, my point was that the Wings don’t struggle with landing UFA. We have landed 3 pretty big ones (respective to who is available) over the past few years. The difference, is the best of the best don’t hit UFA, and the players that do hit UFA typically get overpaid, kudos to Holland for not giving away stupid contracts. (ie. Clarkson, Orpik, Pouliot etc.). I would love to get Keith Shattenkirk, but this will never happen. That would be like a Ducks fan in 2000 saying "our GM should go out and get Lidstrom" Not going to happen. (not saying Shattenkirk is as good as Lidstrom, but I think my point is made).

It does nothing of the sort. Anxiety is an emotion. I didn't say he had "mental health issues" because I thought it would be somewhat equivocal. There is nothing gross, simplistic, remarkable, or narrow about my comment. I think I understand in some way what he described in the early interview, and it could be something that still affects him. Some people think their observation is infallible and they make statements that are disrespectful. I'm calling for compassion as it is possible there is more to the issue than they see.
