Helene St. James ‏@HeleneStJames 6m6 minutes ago #RedWings announce trophy awarded to to NHL Prospect Tournament champion renamed Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup, after late CapGeek developer. We are so lucky to be fans of likely the classiest organization in sports!

People forget that babcock coached the hell out of the kids the last two years with all the injuries and we made it to the playoffs both years. I truly believe that if someone else was coaching the Wings, one of those two years we would have missed the playoffs. A great coach adapts to the talent he has. People think his methods haven't changed but I guarantee they are different this year then they were in 2008-2009 when he could coach on auto-pilot. He is the best coaching option out there. With any other coach the Wings take a step back. Go get him Kenny!

Prove it. You can't. Because your statement is complete supposition. And lets not forget that Dave Lewis wasn't exactly handed the bad news bears, and he did nothing. Your statement implies that coaches don't matter at all,and I wholeheartedly disagree. I'd prefer he stay but if Babs leaves so be it. Not the end of the world. Not trying to get on you, but statements like that really bug me.

Because there is things called opinions. Does everyone have to agree with you? Babs stays good for us. He leaves good for us we end up with Blashill. Let's not pretend Babs is a horrible coach and needs to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'll let Wikipedia's intro paragraphs show the "some reason": I just took title acheivements. Babcock: "As of May 2015, he is the only coach to gain entry to the Triple Gold Club, guiding his Red Wings to the Stanley Cup in 2008, as well as leading Team Canada to gold at the IIHFIce Hockey World Championships in 2004, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Babcock is the only coach to win five national or international titles, guiding Canada to gold at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 1997 and the University of Lethbridge to theCIS University Cup in 1994." Bylmsa: "On June 12, 2009, four months after becoming head coach in Pittsburgh, Bylsma led the Penguins to their third Stanley Cup Championship winning in 7 games over the Detroit Red Wings." Hitchcock: "He coached the Stars to a Stanley Cup victory in 1999. He also served as an assistant coach for the 2014 Canadian Olympic Hockey Team." McClennan: "former head coach of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League.[1]" Carlyle: He won the Stanley Cup in 2007 with his previous team, the Anaheim Ducks.[3] I think if you step back from your anti-Bab position you'd realize why he's being covered the way he is. He's kind of a star especially because the olympic wins brought him into the limelight. He's also in this rare situation where he's a coach who's looking for jobs without having been fired by a team (usually a non-playoff team). Babcock has done a lot for this team so he deserves the right to explore other jobs. This is the soonest time he could have talked to other teams and helped us out by not waiting to free agency. The media is obnoxious, though, but that's the nature of mass media.

Hate the Ducks, but I hate Chicago more. Have to root for the Ducks to pull this one off. It hurts either way though.

If people stop calling him Dylark, we can't pose the following question: "Who are the five best prospects of all time? Think about it. Dylark. Dylark. Dylark, Dylark, Dylark. Because he spits hot fire." I don't think it's something we can afford to lose. (Also, I'm sure someone else has made this observation. Full credit to Dave Chappelle... then you.)

Anyone who doubts what Babs brings to the team... all Squawk Sports Radio talks about is how Quenneville is the master of matchups and OCD about it. I will give you one guess where he learned to take it so seriously (it was in 2013). And he was schooled by the master and should have had one of the biggest disappointment playoff exits in recent times had his team not luckily come back from 3 - 1 series deficit. I just have serious doubts that the next coach up can match the same. I know we backseat drive his game strategy all the time, but there is a reason for things he does and its not just pulling names out of a hat and it works out a lot more often than it fails. Just look again at this year... we should have easily surprised and beat the s*** out of the Blots.

You're correct, I did forget that. Maybe he's not over-ripe enough yet, tho.

Happy for Dominic Moore after all he's been through. I'm sure it has to be bittersweet.

    I'm ready for Blashill.

Just watched the special, I dont think Babs comes off bad at all. The guy has done NOTHING wrong. If people are pissed about this, get mad at the media. I think he did the interview to hopefully get the media to leave him alone.

This is for Duck Guy. Go Ducks

Sad that no matter what happens, we are going to lose a good coach in the system. If Babcock stays then Holland runs out of excuses to stop teams from talking to Blashill.

Frank, what do you think is going on right now? We CURRENTLY in the middle of a rebuild. Just look at our roster, I feel like I keep repeating myself. Nquist, Tatar, Jurco, Marchenko, Ouellet, Smith, DD, Sproul, Mantha, Larkin, Pulkkinen, Mrazek, Sheahan, etc. If you dont like our young players, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. But, I dont understand how you dont see it. Sure its not a complete re-build Ala Edmonton, but who the hell wants to do it that way. A smooth transition where your older vets show the kids the ropes, giving the kids playoff experience every year IMO is a pretty good method.

I am shocked that people that call themselves Red Wing fans, are actually hoping that if Babcock leaves, the Wings fail just to prove a point on a message board that Babcock was a good coach. If you care more about "being right" then the Wings being successful, I don't think you are that big of a fan. I hope Babs stays as I think he's a great coach. But if he leaves, I still want us to win. I care more about the Wings as a whole, then Babcock as an individual..

If babs stays will I be upset? No ... I won't be in an uproar for him coming back ... My preference is we go a different route , preferably with jeff Blashill My personal opinion is he's a good coach but overrated ... Those gold medals for me don't count as the teams were stacked full of all star players From 2010-2015 we haven't done anything in the playoffs and we had hank and pav from ages 29-35? ... It's not like there career was done and over with And as for the franchise sitting pretty I'd put that more on holland for not panicking and trading away top prospects and out scouting staff for always refilling the prospect pool with real good talent

What's hard to understand is that you're stating that "fans" want this with no proof of that even being the case. You, frankgrimes, may want this, but that doesn't mean that everyone or even a minute cross section of the fans of any given team want this. I would agree with others above that for anyone who is not xenophobic, icing the *best possible team* regardless of country of origin is the most important thing. Also, as previously pointed out, the Wings *have* multiple players from the area on the team. Now, I was born and raised in MI and this means nothing more to me than a Pierre McGuire interesting trivia tidbit. Nothing. Are they good players who complement the team? Great. If it does mean something to someone else, great. You got it. TL;DR this isn't a thing. Stop trying to convince us that it is a thing, and that we all want it.

I want the Ducks to take this round, then they can get swept in the next. Then we can be done with this horrible playoff season that has sucked all the balls.

Why can't both lose? The hockey gods have been taken over by some force of evil.
