Yeah, except instead of a rose its a Maple Leaf. How many personalities does Bob have?

I really don't want to lose Blashill for 4 years of Babcock. Will be interesting to see how this all pans out..,

It better be a multi-year deal if we're losing Blashill as a backup, you know?

So now Leaf fans are saying they are the front runners for Blashill.... They wonder why they are hated soo much. All I have heard at work today was Babcock is going to Toronto and if not they are going to take our "Other" coach. Yes, they say "Other" coach.

Is the Blashill obsession like the backup goalie and the backup quarterback thing in Detroit?

Can you guys at least pretend to be on topic and maybe just put "Babcock" at the end of your post?

Let him walk. Just cause it doesn't affect the cap is not a reasonable excuse to ridiculously overpay someone.

This is like an episode of The Bachelor". Everybody is waiting to see if Mike will give Ken Holland the rose. Puke.

You can't blame them... Blashill is very hard to pronounce. Just be happy your coworkers are housebroken.

I really hope Holland isnt stupid enough to sign Babcock to a short term deal and let Blashill walk. That is the worst case scenario imo

They can want him all they want, but all a short term deal brings is instability. I'm not saying it's a 1 or 2 year deal, but if it is who does it really benefit? Babcock isn't going to change his coaching style, so it'd be 2 years of the same, and then a new coach would come in and instill his strategy. How does that help the franchise? With a young team there needs to be more stability. Babcock should either stay and continue molding the young guys. Or someone else should. Because changing coaches every couple years, isn't great for the longevity of a franchise. Doesn't matter who wants the deal, I don't think going short is a good idea.

I'm starting to look at Tyler Johnson the way that Sheldon looks at Will Wheaton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4X4jKkHm24

There was, but they traded Satan to Edmonton for a first round pick in 2018, Yakopov's first-born son, and the next prospect they get named Lenny.

Ugh! I want the new Rangers to win not the old Rangers! This year's playoffs have really burst my bubble all over the place. Am I wrong in thinking that Tampa is Not. That. Good? Yet they keep winning? Is there a signed contract with satan hidden somewhere?

    Free agents this off season

This year's class is soft, but I don't think it's wise to wait for those guys either. You never know who'll be available, when the time comes.

Say anything you want, the fact being is that this team played above their ability for a long time. Then almost blew it. Then Mrazek got hot in the playoffs. I'm an optimistic guy, but to say this is not a mediocre team that overachieved is being too optimistic. The talent level isn't there, but what got them that far is their heart- which is nothing to sneeze at. Couple the heart with some more talent, and we'll have a force on our hands. We're just not their yet.

He's had all year to think about it - but he hasn't had all year to fly around the country and talk with organizations and discuss salaries and prospects and how much input he gets on the roster. Those are important aspects of the decision, believe it or not. Has he had time to think about "Do I want to stay in Detroit or not"? Sure. But if he gave even more than cursory attention to "Hmmm, what do the up and coming St. Louis prospects look like..." that would have been irresponsible given his coaching duties. How does he think he would get along with management in Buffalo? How much control would he get over the roster in San Jose? What would his kids' college situation(s?) look like if he moved to Toronto? Out of country applications for US universities versus in-state? Is there a decent (and affordable) neighborhood for him and his wife in St. Louis? These are all things to think about - and if you really think he had spare time to consider these details during the regular season, you don't have enough respect for the profession of coaching an NHL team. Which is why - as he keeps repeating to the media - he hasn't thought about it as much as he needs to in order to make a call. There are a LOT of aspects to this decision that he can't/shouldn't have been thinking about until the Wings were eliminated. I don't begrudge him that. And no, he hasn't had a squad at the level of Chicago or Los Angeles. But in mid-February Detroit was considered a sneaky-good contender for the Cup at the level of any team in the West. That's my point. It collapsed eventually, but we still made it into the postseason. Would that have happened under another coach? Would the Wings have even been in that position (fighting for the top spot in the division over halfway through the season) with the same roster but a different coach? I doubt that. He has made the team better. Period. I'll grant you it's probably an exaggeration to say the roster wasn't playoff worthy last season, but an average coach doesn't get that roster in last year. Maybe not even this year. He has gotten well above average results with (and I think this IS fair) only a slightly above average team - at least in the last few years. All I'm saying is that we should respect that body of work and give the man some time to sort out his business without berating him for not being undyingly loyal to the place where he's already delivered a Cup and spent over a decade of his life. He's earned that.

I don't think he's really made a big hoopla out of any of it. It's the media more than anything. He didn't want to talk about it all season and I think he's really only done the one interview with TSN, where he basically said "lets hurry up and make a decision now, no reason to drag this on". We should know in two days time.
  22. 1 point
Agreed. Plus, you cant blame him for the media. All he did was grant one interview which is IMO is no big deal.

If he returns, the whole circus wouldn't bother me at all. He's earned the right to see what's out there. I'd like him to resign, if not, so be it.

My bold prediction... If Babcock leaves, Blashill will win a Cup first (with Detroit).
