Nyquist Files For Arbitration
13dangledangle and 4 others reacted to haroldsnepsts for a post in a topic
It's amazing how fast people will turn on a player. If memory serves, this is more of a basic procedural thing than a real indication that things are going poorly. By filing for arbitration Nyquist forfeits the right to accept an offer sheet from other teams. In other words, he's committing to the Wings by filing. Today is the deadline to file so the timing is likely a result of that, not something that happened with the Wings. I'm pretty sure this is something players do that's just a backup plan for a worst case scenario. And again, by doing so he cannot accept an offer sheet from another team. -

#73 OA - Defenseman Vili Saarijarvi
evilmrt and one other reacted to Ekmanc for a post in a topic
Second day comments from Malik: Vili Saarijarvi 71: I shrug my shoulders and go, "Pro pace, pro pace." I have seen Vili for the sum total of about an hour, and I already understand that the Red Wings didn't overreact by signing him to a pro contract some eight days after he was drafted. He's not big at 5'10" and he's not massively physically imposing, but he is an elegant puckhandler, a smart, slick passer and a superb skater who just does everything well. Tyler Wright called him the "complete package" and that's not off. He's really, really good and I don't know how the Wings got him in the 3rd round, either, because he plays like a 1st round pick. There are many other reasons to go back but either way he seems to be playing for Flint next season. -

Take it for what it's worth, but I noticed a number of favorable mentions regarding Saarijarvi and his play during today's camp on Twitter earlier today. Malik did a write-up on him, too. -

I've got your random inanimate object right here.Grabs groin. Realizes I just said I can't get it, up. Makes Boston/philly sad. I think were done here. If we need to pay Nyquist more than we have left in capspace, I wonder if Quincey gets moved real quick. -

Things you would like to see for 2015-16 Season
haroldsnepsts reacted to Dabura for a post in a topic
I mean, I don't actually believe we're going to see a roster defenseman moved out before the start of the season. Kenny's not going to move Quincey to clear cap space and a spot for a kid. He's not going to pull a sign-and-trade with Smith. Maybe (maybe) he moves Kindl, but it sounds like Kindl is being treated as a reclamation project, and we all know how much this organization loves reclamation projects. Even if Kenny did trade Kindl, Ouellet/Marchenko would still have to overtake Quincey/Smith. So, Lashoff would be Kindl's logical replacement. Oh, and there's also the fact that we spent a first-round pick on each of Quincey, Smith, and Kindl. (And McCollum. Who was just re-signed...for reasons no one can seem to understand...) (Curious, that.) -

Depth chart for RW/Griffins
krsmith17 reacted to DickieDunn for a post in a topic
Until we see what Holland can do to move a defenseman or two out, it's impossible to say what the roster will be like. Marchenko proved he can play in the NHL, Ouellet showed a lot of promise too and should be ok as an NHL player this coming season. I'm not sure I'd be thrilled with seeing Quincey and Smith moved without bringing in an upgrade on D and going with both kids though. That leaves them one big injury away from having Marchenko or Ouellet as a top 4 D for several weeks. I don't know if either of them will ever be that good, much less their first full NHL season. As fro his comments on Kindl and Smith, I don't read too much into what coaches and GMs say publicly. They generally aren't going to say too many bad things and throw their guys under the bus. -

1 pointIts not irrelevant how much revenue the league is bringing in, especially in a system where player salaries are literally connected to it. Colorado fans have every right to be upset with Ryan O'Reilly. How is it different then fans in Detroit being upset with Fedorov back in 2003? When you are a fan of a team and you spend your hard earned money on that team, you want to see players doing their best to help that team win. When you see a player who is more interested in making as much money as possible and doesn't care about helping the team they are playing for ice the best roster possible, it irritates the fans. Its one thing if the player is truly one of the best players in the world, but in the case of O'Reilly it just comes across as greed and a false sense of entitlement. Now don't get me wrong, O'Reilly has every right to want what he wants, but he can't expect the fans to be happy with him. Just as O'Reilly has the right to do what he wants, the fans have a right to not be happy with him. Personally I respect guys who have a team first mentality (ie. Lidstrom, Datsyuk etc.)

1 pointTJ Oshie is an overrated player overall and got his fame at the Olympics shootout. End of story. I'd take my chances losing on the shootout than pay him 4.5 mill for his 20 goals. We have 2 younger players with an upside that can score 30 goals and make half the money (Nyquist/Tatar). If this organization starts trading away assets for a player that scores 36% on shootouts I'm going to start watching the KHL instead.

1 pointAs long as Quincey is fully healthy and can play at the level he played at last season, I'd take him over anything we have in Grand Rapids. Neither Ouellet or Marchenko are an upgrade at this stage of their careers, and to be honest I don't think either ever will be (Ouellet has a chance). I think Sproul still has the potential to be better, whether he ever will be is yet to be seen... If the cap isn't an issue, which it won't be, I have no problem whatsoever in paying Quincey his $4.25M to play steady defensive hockey on the 3rd pair... Kindl on the other hand, I would like to see him traded, and I believe he could be for a mid to late round draft pick...

1 pointNHL players make less then players in other sports because the NHL brings in less revenue then sports such as the NBA, NFL, and MLB. I'ts not about what sport you or I like, or about what sport takes more athleticism to play. Hockey is my favourite sport in the world, but that's irrelevant. You seemed to have missed my point. My point is that just taking the players side because its a player is as ridicoulas as just taking an owners side just because its an owner. If a player is asking for a ridicoulas amount of money, you cant fault the fans for being upset with the player.

Svechnikovs goal in the shootout after the prospects scrimmage was insane. His hands are quick as hell and his body control is crazy. He's 22 in white. The third shooter in this video right after lil Bert. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=47&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CJICEIZUMC4&url=https%3A%2F%2Famp.twimg.com%2Fv%2F1847798a-a7e6-4af8-ad8d-56e3e930ceb4&ei=P3mYVZr7EsapsAXt34KgDg&usg=AFQjCNHH5DhPGqHWBoaJXlaNaGLs01xARQ Effin beautiful. -
