Who are the Red Wings? A team that's sitting comfortably in playoff position and one who is now consistently playing well, and often beating, some of the better teams in the league. Yep, that's us. Seems like there's considerable effort being made to make this team out like its worse than it really is. Look around guys and gals. We are a good team. And the best part? We aren't even as good as we are going to be in a month or two.

With those white gloves it reminds me of the Red Power Ranger. To be clear : I like them, it's just a very trashy 80s/90s style.

Who and What are the Detroit Red Wings?

This team is on the lower part of the upward curve of the parabola and have managed to turn over 65% of the roster without missing the playoffs and has done so being a couple of dodgy refereeing calls away from beating the eventual cup winners or runners-up twice in recent years. We still aren't a legit contender, but as ever have enough about the roster to suggest that if they get hot and and lucky with the draw, they could go deep into the playoffs. The wings are trying the ambitious and unusual approach of trying to turn over a complete roster, using primarily home-grown players and progress to a position of challenging without ever having a truly fallow period. Whether this can work will be clear in the next 2-3 years, but if successful would be an outstanding achievement and could possibly extend the streak to 30-35 years, which would be amazing. The worth of being able to ice a playoff team every year, despite transition, will only serve to keep Detroit relevant for potential long term UFAs regardless of CBA developments. People have bemoaned missing out on Suter, but we were in the last two for the most desirable UFA in the last decade and only lost out due to a combination of personal circumstances for the player. As a club the DRW remain in great shape. As a roster? We'll know a lot more after the next 2 years.

I actually really like the white gloves. But it is kind if power ranger-y.

    Ian White Preparing for War?

Yeah, but do you remember the time he blocked that shot with his face? That was badass.

I see more room for error trying to re-design the winged wheel, specially for a one time thing. Icethetics.co has some interesting designs the second logo reminds me of the 96-05 Detroit Pistons logo

    Forbes' NHL team evaluations

Wow that's surprising thought the Leafs would the most valueable franchise again. conclusions from this list: - Wings are (again ) worth the least from all Original 6 franchises - the league wants 500 mill expansion fee yet only 11 teams are worth more than 500 mill, 6 of them being original 6 teams. Dream some more NHL.. - with the exception of the Habs all Canadian teams lost some value (very surprising) - surprised that the Pens aren't worth more with that much talent

Get a Larkin 71! I think I prefer a blank jersey without the Stadium Series patch.

I know I'm likely in the minority but I like the Red Wings jersey.

It doesn't help that Captain Vanilla McPlainwrap is wearing it.

well, unfortunately no matter what we do, we will only have room for 3 of the 4 kids if we are adding a top unit player because we will have Kronner, DD and green all under contract. Plus if we cannot dump E, then we'd only have room for 2 in this same example...its gonna be tight next summer...i am nervous for my boy Jensen.

So in two years time, you keep Erection and let all of Jensen, Sproul and XO get claimed on the waiver? I realize you are just fantasizing, about have Ekblad, but you may want to shed E's salary in order to fit Ekblad in. DD-Ekblad Kronwall-Green XO-Marchy Jensen

I'll live. Best of luck to him, I'd rather have him over Andersson but that's just me.

    Ian White Preparing for War?

Played 5 years in Toronto (vs two in Detroit) yet tsn is leading with a picture of him in a Wings jersey. If he'd saved a cat from a a building fire they'd show him as a Leaf, no doubt.

    Goalie Battle

Made me curious, so did some looking. Unfortunately, war-on-ice doesn't filter by time in game, so it's not quite conclusive. Combined last year and this year, leading by one, with opposing goalie pulled, both are nearly identical. 2 GA for each, on 16 shots for Mrazek, 15 for Howard. Leading by one, all situations there's quite a difference though: Howard - 44 games, 548.5 TOI, 32 GA on 306 shots, 89.54 sv% Mrazek - 32 games, 570.1 TOI, 16 GA on 293 shots, 94.54 sv% The team is better defensively with Mrazek, but Mrazek is also much better. Better on all shot types too. Low-danger (perimeter shots basically): Howard 7 goals/155 shots, Mrazek, 2/137 Medium (high slot/circles inside the faceoff dots): Howard 6/69, Mrazek 3/90 High (low slot/goal mouth): Howard 19/82, Mrazek 11/66 I figured there would be a difference, but I'm surprised by how dramatic it is. Among all goalies with at least 300 minutes in that situation (42 of them), Mrazek is 4th best, Howard is 3rd worst. Oddly, when trailing by 1, Howard is 21st of 47 while Mrazek is 44th. Trailing by any amount, Mrazek is 56th of 61, with Howard 20th. Tied Mrazek is 2nd of 61, Howard 38th. Granted, Howard wasn't great last year. Limited to just this year, they are much closer. Overall, I don't know if you can say Howard is particularly prone to giving up late, tying goals. Not enough information available (unless someone cares to dig through game logs). But it does look like Mrazek, so far, is generally better in tied games or when protecting a lead, but more likely to get a bit rattled when behind.

When does Larkin get the C?

From my understanding because the former captain Danny Gare had left the team. I cant see a 19 year old Larkin becoming "the leader" of a team that still has players like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Kronwall on it. Not to mention, do you actually think he would want that? I couldn't imagine just walking into a locker room and taking the captaincy from someone who has been there as long as Z. Typically young guys are given the C, when the entire team around them is young or new to the organization. You dont strip an established vet of the C to give to a 19 year old. Also, how is being big a good leadership quality?

When does Larkin get the C?

Let's, for a minute, just say that this isn't a dumb idea. Let's say it is very intelligent. It still would never happen. Because: Red Wings.
