Looks like it is Howard starting, sorry for the inaccuracy. I knew I was going to be at work today and would be unable to update the GDT so I went solely on projections. I hereby change my prediction from 5-2 to 5-4 in OT. Thanks for all the kind feedback about the GDT, there's still time left in the season for anyone to post up your ugliest and worst. LGW!

I'm not sure why the "pressure to keep the streak alive" would affect them. Their goal should always be to make playoffs. To win. You keep the streak alive by winning, which they should be trying to do anyway.

I don't think Blash is THE problem. His system doesn't work with the players we have. Get him the right players and it'll work like a charm. Sure it's easier to replace the coach but we already know we don't have the players to win in any system. Babcock couldn't even do it. One could argue Mrazek is also a reason they are slipping. He's given up 5 goals 3 times in the last 11 games....in his first 38 games that didn't happen a single time. Of course, I'm no naïve enough to think that's all on Mrazek, it's a function of team play as well.

First fire Blashill. If an entire team falls off it's on the coach

An expansion team would not be able to take any more than one player from each team. There's no chance the player they would pick from us would be down in Grand Rapids unless it were a Svechnikov level prospect, and even then I doubt it. I think these expansion teams would elect to take the veteran guys over prospects, unless they were can't miss prospects, which would not be available. I think we would end up protecting: Forwards - Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Nyquist, Abdelkader, Larkin, Mantha, Athanasiou. Defense - Kronwall, DeKeyser, Smith. Goalie - Mrazek. I think we would end up losing either Howard or Ericsson...

I don't think anybody is denying Blashill is a step down from Babcock...the point is, so what? Babcock may well be the best coach in the NHL. Look at what he is managing to do with an AHL team in Toronto. Did anybody expect Blashill to come in and immediately do him one better? The point isn't that the coaching isn't as good as last year, the point is that there is no reasonable fix beyond simply giving Blashill more time to adjust to the NHL level. Even if we miss the playoffs, you cannot after one season fire the guy who has been groomed for this head coaching job for years. That sort of show-me-now mentality is antithetical to everything that the Wings organization does and has done for decades, and avoiding that short-sightedness is what gave us our playoff streak in the first place.

I do look forward to the housecleaning this offseason, though.

When Lidstrom retired and Kronwall became #1, I almost cried. They knew Lids was contemplating the retirement 3 years before it happened and should have traded Francine and whatever for a top Dman.

I usually wait 24 hours before posting after a game but... I still trust this team. At one point in the season they were a lot higher and have been cold since the Florida trip... If the TO game didn't do anything to wake them up this game sure will. They showed some fight, and coming this Thursday they will be looking to make up for the past performances LET'S GO WINGS

It wouldn't benefit the organization if he retired. He would have to Chris Pronger his contract. He'll transition into a 3rd liner in a couple years and stay there like Yzerman did. The youth will need his leadership - he's been through a lot and learned from very successful predecessors (Yzerman and Lidstrom). The org will want someone who still retains those roots to pass it onto Larkin etc.

Missing playoffs would be disastrous. We wouldn't pick high enough to improve the team, and would miss out on playoff experience for the kids. They have to make playoffs or it's a totally wasted year.
