It won't be. Kids hated algebra in grade school and it followed them into adulthood. Parents hated kids on their computers in the 90s and now use it to do their taxes every year. Millenials sit on their phones and text their friends as their parents told them to get off their phones. Ironically it's those same parents who now use those phones and download apps to make their work easier for them. Doctors using Updodate on their phones in between patients for instance instead of carrying a pocket medical dictionary (because who wants to carry a book?) Technological and mathematical advances will never go away. They only continue to grow. It's up to us whether we want to use it or not. There are a lot of coaches looking into advance metrics and the Red Wings will follow suit. I'd get used to it. Not only is it a great idea, but if you don't (use analytics), you're going to fall behind," Babcock told NHL.com. It's not about admitting it's a bad contract. Everyone but Ericsson's mom knows that's too much for him. (Although it's looking less bad when you have Petry getting 5.5 and other such deals) It's the fact that if we bought him now, it would be 1.375 against the cap for the next 8 years. On top of the 1.067 from Weiss that's around for 5 more years. Can't just keep buying out people and handicapping the team. Plus who are we making room for? Many would argue that Sproul, Jensen, Ouellet would be better options, but enough to justify the cap? Ericsson has a modified NTC so he could be tradeable or keep him on the lower pairs where can handle the competition better. -

I think his Axe to grind is stemming from the Drew Miller signing and letting Emdog leave. -

Personally I hope he lights it up and we can flip him at the deadline to some desperate team looking for one last piece for a 1st round pick. And I know that sounds crazy, but Paul Gaustad went for a 1st at the deadline a few years ago. -

I remember though, the biggest complaint from non hockey fans as to why they didn't watch the sport was that they couldn't follow the puck, and remember the biggest TVs back then were like 26",(At least for the average person). They were trying to appeal to a larger audience and I think it was a good idea on paper but was more annoying than helpful in practice. -
1 pointAdvanced metrics shouldn't be the "be all end all". It's just an alternative way of looking at things that you can't see with your eye balls. How coaches use it is up to them. The really good players are those that maintain amazing numbers with tough minutes. This is why Datsyuk and Zetterberg and Lidstrom were amazing in their primes. Their numbers were great even when they played tough minutes thoughout the season.

Barrie and Landeskog are, for my money, two of the best players in the league. They have, I feel, been held back by Roy and, in a different way, by Sakic. They're possession monsters on an awful, awful, awful possession team. They put up points. They're proven top-end talents. I'm not convinced that DeKeyser is more than a second-pairing defenseman. But Roy thinks Barrie is a #5 defenseman, because Roy is that kind of moron person, so he probably looks at DeKeyser and goes, "Oh, he's real good defensively. Great defenseman." Ouellet isn't a big loss. Losing Tatar, Nyquist, and Mantha...obviously that's hard to justify. But, honestly, we'd be getting the two best players in this deal. (And I say this as a defender of Tatar, Nyquist, Mantha.) Here is DeKeyser's chart: -

I think there were a good number of Holland Apologists around a couple years ago (I'm thinking of like 2010-2014) Kinda hard to hate on a guy one year removed from the Finals and two years removed from a Cup. But by 2010 we all knew Lids' playing days were numbered and Kenny didn't seem prepared (still hasn't really fixed it); he made bad signings and re-signings (Sammy, Cleary, Cleary again....); losing Quincy through waivers and then trading a 1st round pick to reacquire him; ect... There were some who called it like it was, but there was a lot of pushback. In the past two years I'd say there's been a slow but steady move towards being more critical -

I'm on the Howe, Lidstrom, Yzerman, Sawchuk, Datsyuk or Fedorov bandwagon. The Fedorov/Datsyuk debate is a good one. Pav was a lifetime wing who didn't have nearly the supporting cast Sergei did most of his career. Fedorov was dominant, and darned close to being the total package (in a better than Lex Luger way) but his post Wings numbers took a steep dive if I recall correctly. Both were great. The cap/non-cap rosters make a difference as well. I wonder what the analytics would say comparing the two in their primes (yes, I realize that the analytics weren't around in anything close to their present form during Fed's tenure, but it would be a very interesting comparison nonetheless). HM for Red Kelly, Sid Abel, Alex Delvecchio, Ted Linsday off the top of my head. -

jimmyemeryhunter reacted to Euro_Twins for a post in a topic
Didn't want him but of course the Wings sign him at the plus side it's only for 1 year so if it doesn't work out they can just let him walk. so much for becoming heavier and tougher to play against lol So the talk of getting "tougher" and "harder to play against" was just to get me through the week? Meh, not super excited but not unhappy about it, and I did tease about pre-ordering your Vanek jerseys a couple of days ago, so there. Can I read Holland or what. Honestly. 2,6 millions one year is okay...but Vanek is done unless he agrees to finally compete. He was terrible recently. Slow turnover machine. I think this is mainly to help our powerplay as Vanek still has his excellent hands. -

Holland hasn't done the best job. Miller contract was useless and Helm is overpaid for what he can do (I don't care if he would have gotten more money as a free agent). But I also can't agree with people blaming Holland for not landing some of the players like Lucic, Okposo or Eriksson. It's upto the players whether they want to be here or not. Detroit is not UFA destination it used to be and we have to realize that. Some people revert into their former high school logic and start blaming Holland for literally every single thing. No one can take you seriously if you can't differentiate between an instance when Holland really IS at fault and when he ISN'T. So far I'm frowning at Holland for the Helm/Miller deals but giving a slow golf clap for the Vanek deal and a nod for Nielsen with a questioning look about the length of term. We can only truly know if these things pan out once the season is underway. -

I really dislike Seinfeld. Have never found it the least bit funny, nor entertaining. A show about nothing (which I know is the idea) and that's about how much appeal it has to me.
