only for fans who don't understand the role of a real fourth liner. I'd rather see entertaining guys like McKee than Miller and company but to each their own. -

Welcome back AA and Howard. Mrazek with the start. Glendening still on the 2nd line with Larkin and Frans. Let's not let Laine skate through every one of our players shamelessly this game and hold them to a lower score. LGW! Tomas Tatar Henrik Zetterberg Anthony Mantha Dylan Larkin Frans Nielsen Luke Glendening Gustav Nyquist Riley Sheahan Thomas Vanek Andreas Athanasiou Steve Ott Tomas Jurco Defensive Pairings Dan DeKeyser Mike Green Jonathan Ericsson Alexey Marchenko Niklas Kronwall Brian Lashoff -

1 pointWhat I dont understand is clearly the Wings dont see much of a future with Lashoff given that he didnt play a single game last year, was put through waivers this year, and was only called up because of multiple injuries. With that being said, now that he is up how can they all of a sudden want to play him over Sproul a guy with top 4 upside? Unless Sproul did something stupid we dont know about, or is hurt, I dont get it.

They aren't bad contracts. They are market value. As the cap increases, so does salaries. -

That's craziness if Marchenko doesn't take Lashoff's spot. Lashoff's supposed to be the quiet sound D type, but him being weak on the puck caused the first goal last game. Still don't know why we didn't call up Jensen instead of him to start with. -

1 pointSproul has had three or four "bad" games (Boston, Buffalo, Dallas and Pittsburgh), but in my opinion has been one of our better defensemen in most other games he's played this year. He sat for two weeks after the Boston game, which I didn't think he was that bad in, and when he got back in, the game against Tampa, that was one of the better games he played all season. I agree that he should have sat a game or two, but he's sitting again tomorrow, when I believe he should be playing. Send Lashoff back to the minors. He's not an NHL quality player...

1 pointExactly. You don't trade the younger goalie when one has to go, especially if he's just as good or better as the other already, and has tons of potential to be way better. Howard has topped out, Mrazek hasn't. Like ANA with Andersen/Gibson, STL with Elliott/Allen. TB and PIT have decisions on which goalie to keep for the upcoming expansion draft. Bishop or Vasilevsky and Fleury or Murray. My guess is they both go with the younger guy.
-
1 pointWell I think they're assuming if he died due to heart/cardiac reasons. But we have no idea. Usually if it's as young of a guy as him, you assume he had some sort of heart defect he was born with or cocaine. Heart and death don't go together at 23 years old. Way too rare. Guess we'll find out eventually the cause of death. Really sad whatever the reasons are. Way too young. Feel bad for my favorite announcer.

I'm sure there's a legit reason behind it. Like I know we all think Blashill has idiotic tendencies. But this would be way borderline mental if he has him on 4th line for purely "demotion" reasons. And so far with the minutes Larkin is getting (18 minutes last game) it seems like he's being worked for sure. -
1 pointI haven't been digging into the underlying numbers as much as I normally would, mainly because this team is playing boneheaded hockey and it's making me increasingly apathetic. I'm pretty sure, though, that his CF% (5-on-5) had in fact been relatively good for a long stretch of time. Even now, I think he's currently sitting at something like 45, which isn't great, but it puts him somewhere in the middle of our lineup. I stand by the notion that when he's playing well, he's making good plays out of our end and helping to push the puck up the ice while also being responsible on the defensive side of the puck. That's largely the eye test talking, but he's so young (for a defenseman) and inexperienced and our team is so resoundingly awful by most metrics that I'm putting more stock in what I'm seeing than I normally would. So, I'm ok with what he's shown so far this season. I do think Blashill was right to sit him after his most recent games, though. I joked about this in a different thread, but I actually do believe a young and inexperienced defenseman can really benefit from watching a few games as a spectator. If nothing else, some time in the press box gives him a chance to mentally reset.

At least Larkin doesn't play all of each game on the 4th line. You could see him with Z and Mantha for a goal last game, with Vanek and Nyquist for another goal and plenty of other shifts. Maybe Larkin on the 4th line is just a strategy to give Larkin some lower competition to get used to the center position. Or maybe a way to double shift him. -

I'm personally not a fan of assembling lines (not that I have anything against those who do). Its pretty rare that a line built on paper works out how we expect it would in real life, and I've seen plenty of lines kick ass when I would have never guessed they had any chance at production. I'm done trying to figure it out lol. Also Blueadams has already analyzed every possible combination of red wing lines for the next 15 years.
