    2017 Draft

Green has trade value, and will likely fetch us a 1st or 2nd rounder at the deadline if we are selling. As far as the teams ahead of us in the draft, none of those teams should be trading for an expiring contract. The teams that are likely interested in Green will be picking between 20-30, and would have no reason to trade for him now.

All else being equal, the low Cdn dollar (it's not that low relatively speaking....but if you are only looking at the last 5 years, then yes, low)....money wise he'd be better in Calgary. All salaries are paid in USD, so he'd have more purchasing power in Calgary with the lower Cdn dollar. Some items will even out though (i.e. cars will be more expensive). However, all else isn't equal. I'm not going waste the time looking into income taxes, while Alberta has the lowest rates in Canada I believe, Texas has no state income tax, so one of the cheapest states to live (tax wise) in the US, so it you'd definitely pay less tax in Texas than in Alberta. Sales tax is cheaper in Calgary though (5%) vs. 8.25% in Dallas.

maybe. Or maybe he's a 3rd pair guy, opr career AHLer. There are no sure things at 9 I'd try it, but I don't know that any teams would move a first for Green. Maybe if they include their 2nd in the deal they could move up, but they could probably get a better deal at the deadline. Plus, like you said, it's Holland and he probably thinks that they can make the playoffs as a wild card and go on some magical run and win the Cup.

Hey, whatever it takes to beat the Pens. I don't want them getting any closer to taking over the Wings as last team to win back to back Cups. The Sens can get demolished in the Finals for all I care.

Holland isn't in a bad situation anymore goalie wise either. Mrazek has one season left at $4 million, and Howard two at $5.2 million. The ideal situation would be that Mrazek rebounds and signs a long term extension. Even if he doesn't rebound fully, but plays respectable, he's still an RFA, so Holland has negotiating room at arbitration (if it goes that far) for a one season deal for cheaper if he doesn't want to give up on him yet. If Howard stays healthy and plays like he did last year in the minimal games he did play, then Holland should be able to trade him. If he can't, and Mrazek has played well enough, and he is comfortable having him be the starter full time going forward, then Holland can buy out the last year of his deal for $2.5 million in 2018/19, and $1.5 million in 2019/20. Then promote a backup from within (Coreau/Matej), or sign a journeyman NHL backup. Both would be cheap options. With Mrazek's extension, Howard's buyout, and a cheap backup, should be less than $10 million for a season, then down to $7 million (maybe less) or so a season after that.

This deal is good because it's Jim Nill.

They were also a contender, if we were a contender taking on Bishop would not be as big of a deal. The fact of the matter is we are not so that is not a good contract for us.

You mean the Hall of Famers we had at a time where there was no salary cap so if one regressed it didnt cost us a thing. Yep, exact same thing. We are not talking Carey Price or Henrik Lundqvist here, we are talking a guy who has been a starter for only 4 seasons, just hit 30, is coming off the worst season of his career, and is a likely person to be effected by equipment changes. This may prove to be a good move for Dallas, but it's just not a smart move for a team like ours that is re-building.

I think some of you forget that it's all a business at the end of the day.
