the thing that worries me about green is McKenzie mentioning that his list of teams he'd accept a trade to could be short.... which could limit any kind of "bidding war" we could hope for. Granted you only need 2 teams to be very interested to create something like that, so it's still possible. Foote/a comparable defensive prospect for Green straight up is the best case scenario imo

Because they're entirely different positions, with entirely different ways of thinking and entirely different skill sets. It's the same reason baseball teams don't take an outfielder with a cannon for an arm and make him a pitcher, or an NFL team doesn't use an 0-lineman as a d-lineman. Guys like Witkowski are a rarity, and generally don't really do either very well.

I think if you made Petr our clear cut #1 by dealing Howard then we could really see what hes capable of. Risky but Id definitely be willing to see

I agree, and hope the price gets driven up for sure.. i'm just trying my best to not get my hopes up too high and I definitely hope he re-signs this summer.. but yeah, after a trade at the deadline. sounds like there's a pretty reasonable chance.

I think it would depend on what prospects / picks we received, but assuming they were relatively fair value, I'd consider it a good trade deadline. However, I'd question why we traded three pieces, but held onto our biggest trade chip. Green has to be traded. If he wants to come back after his Cup run though, I'd certainly welcome him back at a slightly lesser contract.

I think a lot of that is speculation based on the fact that he has a NTC though. I haven't heard or seen any quotes from Green saying that he would only go to a specific one or two teams. The only thing I've heard concrete, is that Green would like to stay in Detroit. I'd be surprised if he wouldn't accept a trade to go to a contending team for a few months for a chance at a Cup, and then try to negotiate a new contract with the Wings this summer. Either way, if Green is only interested in going to Tampa or back to Washington or whatever, I'm sure he'll let Holland know, but I don't think he'd announce it publicly, only to lower the team's leverage. If Green is only willing to waive his NTC to go to Tampa or Washington and Toronto, Pittsburgh, Boston, Nashville or whoever else are interested, you let them all drive the price up and trade him to the best offer between Tampa and Washington.

For Green? I agree. We should be able to get a 1st or a 2nd plus a high end prospect at the bare minimum.

We don't need Green. His offense is nice, but it's not groundbreaking, either. They need to start building that defensive core up because right now it's full of a bunch of 3, 4, 5, and 6 d-men. No top line talent. No shutdown defender or offensive defensemen (outside of Green). We all need to acknowledge that this team had a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd and let it evaporate and almost lost the game (luckily Howard bailed them out in the OT). This after they just did the same thing with a 3 goal lead in the 3rd period.

He's a free agent this summer. If he says no to trade you really think we'll resign him for screwing us over like that? We need picks. Green can help us out by becoming a rental for another team. And if he really wants to stay in Detroit we can re-sign him in the summer. But he knows we need help and if he says no, he's not going to have very many friends in the front office.

According to cap friendly.com he does. As far as why wouldn't he? From what I've read he seems content in Detroit and wants to resign. He didn't like leaving DC to begin with. Plus he just had a kid. Not saying he wouldn't waive it to go to a contender for a couple of months, but I wouldn't be surprised if he retires a Red Wing.

Because he knows Detroit will be a contender in the next few years, after Blashill's vision begins to take shape. He'll want to stay in Detroit to stick this out.

Genius coach understands that the best way to protect a lead is to stop playing hockey. I wouldn't expect YOU PEOPLE to understand.

yeah, 100% they'll trade green. there's no way they shouldn't at this point, unfortunately.

Only 15 days until we find out if Tatar, Mrazek, Howard, Nyquist, Green are getting traded.

That was a pretty goal, ugly 3rd period. But why did we snag any points at all? I love this team, but they aren't doing themselves any favors.

    So how's everyone doing today?
  18. 1 point
He’s not on a shutout run. But yes, i’ve said before if Mrazek can show he’s ready to take over finally, i’m fine with dropping a few spots. Having a great young starting goalie going forward into a rebuild is just as important as that potential pick, if not more. And the way this team salvages points out of losses and flip flops from horrid to great from game to game sometimes, they’re probably headed for the same draft spot they had last season. There is no tanking in Detroit.

3 goals in the past 2 games for Mantha. Good to see he's shaken off his scoring slump.

    Trade Smith ASAP!

Ericsson is a great 3rd pairing guy, not his fault what Kenny is paying him. When big E is not only your best +- D man but best +- roster player then in all honesty there is the teams problems. People go on about Greens offensive production but , in my opinion he isn't up to much in the area he is playing, D . Sure he's going at half a point a game in his Red wing career, but the guy is a combined -34. Big E can boast a + rating over his career. Yes I know +- is maybe not a accurate reading on a players overall performance , but for a last overall pick, He hasn't done too bad.

i really feel like it'll only be Green and XO (either traded or waived) who will be leaving around the deadline
