Same old debate, new year. But now Fedorov is officially a HHOF and was honored by Detroit. He's seemed to have mended relations with the Wings for the most part and thanked the organization in his HOF speech. Datsyuk has moved on and his career with the Wings has come to an end. Contract was moved and things worked out. Zetterberg... is basically done but just riding it out so.. Osgood because people always bring him up in the conversation. Here are their achievements- I've italicized and bolded the ones I felt are pretty significant accomplishments. Let me know if I'm missing anything or would like to add other categories. Sergei Fedorov Hart Trophy as league MVP - 1 Selke Trophy as best defensive forward - 2 Ted Lindsay Award as Most Outstanding player selected by NHLPA - 1 Stanley Cups - 3 World Championships - 3 Gold medals Olympic Silver Medalist in 1998 Inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015 Pavel Datsyuk Lady Byng Trophy for player best exhibiting sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct - 4 Selke Trophy as best defensive forward - 3 Stanley Cups - 2 World Championships - 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal Henrik Zetterberg Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP - 1 Foundational Player award applying core values of hockey to enrich lives of people in community - 1 King Clancy Memorial Trophy for leadership on and off ice and humanitarian contributions - 1 Stanley Cups - 1 World Championships - 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist - 2006 and 2014 Triple Gold Club member Chris Osgood William Jennings Trophy - 2 Stanley Cups - 3 -

Throughout the 2017-18 OHL campaign, Bouchard has continued to reinforce his stellar and enviable two-way game. Seemingly unsurpassable in his defensive end and a lethal playmaker in the opposing zone, Bouchard’s all-around game has earned him a wealth of praise ahead of the draft, and deservingly so. Bouchard has been an exceptional force in London this season. (Photo by Terry Wilson/OHL Images) A native of Oakville, Ontario, Bouchard’s unique ability to read and understand plays before they develop have made him an astute defender of ample potential. Capable of dismantling plays devised by his opposition before jumping into the rush himself, Bouchard’s on-ice awareness and excellent positional play should allow for a smooth transition to the NHL-level. Perhaps the scariest fact of all is that Bouchard and his game have continued to mature consistently this season, making his absolute potential of the sky-high variety. -
1 pointYeah it’s exciting for sure. Boqvist is another I’m more excited about the more I hear about him too. He sounds like the perfect defenseman for the style and speed of today’s game; incredible skater, dangerous with the puck on his stick, isn’t afraid to shoot, etc etc. We need more guys who aren’t afraid to shoot. He’s the style of defenseman i really like, so I’d be stoked to got him. His play is supposedly a little lacking in his own end though, which is always concerning.. but sounds like he’s making progress there.

Seeing this just makes that small winning streak we had a real bummer lol -
1 pointBasically my thoughts as well. And I understand wanting better odds, it makes sense. But I don’t understand why people (not as frequently on here as other friends of mine who are fans) get SO upset over wins. A lot of wings fans around me have become very annoying.

GDT: Loser point and oh ya, Howard is garbage
ChristopherReevesLegs reacted to krsmith17 for a post in a topic
I don't disagree. I'm not saying we should re-sign Howard at his current cap hit, I just don't think it would be detrimental if we did on a short term contract. The most we'd save by signing a UFA goalie would be around $1M. If we can do that, sure. For me though, a bigger priority would be to get rid of some of the actual bad contracts, namely Nielsen. -

There is really no reason to overpay for Howard just because they can. Sure we don't need the cap space right this second, but we will at some point. The team should be shedding cap over the next two to three years. A goalie in the interim can be had for cheaper than what we pay Howard right now. -

1 pointHis straight-line speed isn't anything special, but he's a great skater overall. Very agile, very mobile. Hughes is the best skater in this draft class and he's definitely a creative playmaker. Kind of like Larkin, if Larkin were a 5'9 defenseman. Some highlights, if anyone's unfamiliar with any of Hughes, Bouchard, Boqvist:

1 point@ami, "Cindy"... Why do you feminize Crosby? Because he's the best in the world and for that reason, you don't like him? Pretty childish... "Tampons"... Again feminizing. How old are you? "Ovechkin is a piece of s***"... Why? That seems like a lot of hate to me... "Thornton and Pavelski are pieces of s***"... Again, why so much hatred? "Parise and Sutter are sisters"... Again with the feminizing... "Guppies, Quacks, Dives"... I get the first two (Sharks and Ducks), but who the hell are the "Dives"? What's with all the lame names? "Buttman"... Very clever... I assume you're one of the people that constantly says "Errorson" and used to refer to Franzen as "Francine", etc, etc... I don't know man. I just don't get it. But whatever. To each their own I guess... You come off as a very angry person. What makes you so sure we won't get Dahlin? Being negative just for the sake of being negative... You're right. Ownership doesn't give a f*** about this team...

Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion
ChristopherReevesLegs reacted to krsmith17 for a post in a topic
Like who? I don't recall anyone (other than eva) making such claims. Granted, you've been around here longer than me, so maybe... But like kliq said, saying that Hudler wouldn't be a star, wasn't some shot in the dark, bold prediction... As for Franzen, you're blinded by your inexplicable hatred for him. He did not regress at all prior to his multiple concussions. He suffered his first concussion way back in 2013, and then several others at varying magnitudes in the following couple seasons, before finally calling it a career in 2015. Even after all of those concussions, he was still a very productive player. Was he consistent from game to game? No. Not many players in the NHL are. Was he consistent from season to season? Absolutely. 2007-08 - 43.4 point pace 2008-09 - 68.1 point pace 2009-10 - 63.8 point pace 2010-11 - 59.3 point pace 2011-12 - 59.6 point pace 2012-13 - 62.0 point pace 2013-14 - 62.2 point pace 2014-15 - 54.7 point pace I'm not sure why I'm bothering with this though. You're usually pretty good at admitting fault, but this is one thing you'll never admit to being wrong about... Oh well... -

Saying that you were right about Hudler not leading our team, would be like me saying now that Nyquist will never win a Hart and DD will never win a Norris, not exactly a "bold prediction". Agreed @krsmith17 had Franzen never suffered all those concussions, I have no doubt that he would still be a great player. -

I don't recall many fans ever being that big on Hudler, other than a select few (eva). It's a bit of a stretch to say you're the only one that called Huds never leading this team... As for Franzen, there's not a question in my mind that if he remained healthy, he would have remained a 50-60 point player for at least another couple seasons. He'd likely still be a somewhat productive player at the age of 38. You weren't "right" about Franzen, unless you're saying you knew he would suffer multiple concussions... You were "right" about Hudler, like countless other Red Wings fans. You happened to be "right" about Franzen due to unfortunate (to most...) circumstances. Not really much to brag about. Though, anyone that brags about being right on the internet irk the s*** out of me anyway... But whatever... -

Ottawa finishing lower than us is a win-win. We may still get a spot above them in the lottery, plus we have their 2nd so it'll be a better pick as well. -

GDT: Loser point and oh ya, Howard is garbage
ChristopherReevesLegs reacted to krsmith17 for a post in a topic
Ideally I'd like him at a lesser cap hit, sure. But really, what do we need the cap space for right now? I'd bring Howard back at a similar cap hit (maybe a little less) for another 2-3 years. Who else will be available as a 2-3 year stop gap at a lesser price? Talbot? Mason? Elliott? Neuvirth? Sure, I'd consider any, but they would all likely cost around the same, maybe slightly less, but would also be a lateral move at best. Seems like making a change, just for the sake of making a change. I'm okay with moving on from Howard, but it's not a "must" like so many make it seem. -

I'm not a huge Howard fan, but he definitely doesn't "suck". I'd like to trade him at next year's deadline, if the return is worth it, but I'd be open to re-signing him again next offseason as well. This team is rebuilding. We don't need a goaltender that will steal games and carry us, we just need a stop gap for a couple years before one of Larsson or Petruzzelli (hopefully) emerges as the next starter. Howard is a solid, but not spectacular goaltender, and a good veteran locker room guy. If we sign another veteran in free agency, I'd be okay with that as well, but don't act like bringing Howard back would be some monumental mistake... It wouldn't. -

Careful what you wish for. Who are you putting in net if you give Howard away? There are better goalies for sure but there are worse ones also. As of now that leaves us with Coreau and McCallum. We can scour the free agent market like Philly, Calgary, and the Leafs have been doing for years. I'm sure there are other teams as well. Ask them how well that is going for them.
