3 pointsThen we have an outstanding 1-2 punch at center. There's no way we'd trade the first overall pick. Certainly not for Hamilton and some picks.

Custance's Take On Zberg/Captaincy (Athletic Paywall) Some notes: Zetterberg always goes out and takes the media job when the team loses, helping the younger players get out of there without feeling any heat. If the team wins, he stays back and lets other players enjoy it. On the next DRW captain: "Really, there isn’t much debate about the succession plan. In Dylan Larkin, the Red Wings have a young player who understands the importance of the past, the culture of the present and works passionately to continue improving his game moving forward." As it stands now, if everyone is healthy and ready to go, it would be hard for Filip Zadina to make the team out of camp for salary cap reasons. It’s fixable, but management would have to get creative and maybe even pursue a transaction beyond sending players to the AHL. “Trade would be one solution,” said a Red Wings source. The expectation now is that Michael Rasmussen will ease into his NHL career on the wing, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if coach Jeff Blashill decided to move him to the middle if Zetterberg is gone. Statistically, Zetterberg does a lot better than Larkin even playing against better opponents. Larkin can let past too many scoring opportunities for opponents, and he's going to have to work really hard to try to play against the top line of other teams. Same thing goes with Nielsen, who would also get tougher matchups. -

1 pointObviously. Dorion isn't an idiot... He's not going to trade Karlsson within Division... He'll likely trade him as far away as possible... Maybe a team like San Jose... Holland, get Wilson on the phone immediately!

1 pointWhich is why I'm so surprised that Khan is saying all of Rasmussen, Zadina, Hronek are expected to make the team out of camp.

1 pointSorry, I was kinda terse in my previous message. Re: Larkin & Hughes -- Ideally, we emerge from this rebuild with an elite 1C, a 2C who'd be a 1C on many other teams, and a 3C who'd be a 2C on many other teams. (And the same idea with the top four on the back end.) Like I always say: depth wins cups, and a team is only as deep as its top talent allows it to be. So, in theory, it'd be something like Hughes-Larkin-Veleno/Rasmussen, where Hughes is "elite, elite," Larkin is 1C-caliber but playing second fiddle to Hughes because Hughes is just that good, and Veleno/Rasmussen is top-six-caliber but not quite as good as Larkin. It's not exactly Crosby-Malkin-Staal/Bonino/Brassard or Matthews-Tavares-Kadri, but it's the same idea and in the same ballpark of crazy depth. tl;dr Larkin scoring 80-90 points as our 2C is the stuff dreams -- and championships -- are made of. Having said all that... Re: The trade value of the first overall pick in the 2019 draft (AKA Jack Hughes) -- It'd have to be an incredible offer. Like, too good to be true. Dougie Hamilton + 1st + a couple of 2nds doesn't come anywhere close; Jack Hughes is much more valuable than Dougie Hamilton -- and what good are picks if you're giving up pretty much the most valuable pick a team can get (outside of a pick that gets you a Connor McDavid)?

Watch the movie #iceguardians here's a quote from the movie: Take the weapons off the elbows and shoulders and we'll see less problems with concussions. Bring back the Ice Guardian, we have less problems. Get rid of the instigator penalty, we have less problems. We have less blindside hits, we have less elbows and shoulders to the head. When you have to pay the price for being dirty, you stop being dirty. In the 80's and 90's, you didn't get a penalty for running at Yzerman, your penalty was getting your ass beat by Probert or Kocur. If Crosby (as much as I dislike him) had a legit Ice Guardian, like Yzerman and Gretzky, etc... had, he'd have less concussion issues, guaranteed. Because he wouldn't get run at all the time. -
