You do realize that we'd have to win 7 straight (not happening), and the team ahead of us (LA) would have to lose 7 straight (not happening) just to get out of last place. In order to jump at all in the standings, we would likely have to win something like 17 of the final 27 games, assuming all other teams keep a similar pace as they've played all season. We've all but locked up the 31st spot. It's okay to root for some wins...

This isn't my hill to die on or anything, but he's a 31 year old career backup who is (at least statistically) having a slightly worse season than his career averages. Seems risky to assume he'd keep up his current play. More likely he's going to fall off. Matter of fact I don't think he's really having that great of a season, just a luckier one than last year where he got hosed despite good play. If you can get something reasonable for him, do so. I feel very comfortable going into next season what whatever we can find on the UFA market considering goalie is probably the last piece of the puzzle we need to find. There are always Jonathan Berniers out there.

Counterpoint: Bernier has never been this good before, and the law of averages suggests he'll never be this good again. So why not sell high on him? Go with Howard and Pickard. Sure we'll lose, but we're losing most nights anyway. What's the difference?

No. I'd like to say the guys they've drafted high over the years were progressing (Rasmussen, Zadina, Veleno, Svechnikov). That would make it easier to stomach the current roster. It would make fans feel that help is coming. However, none of these players look like they're going to be difference makers. Help is not coming unless Seider can be the second coming of Bobby Orr or if they can draft this Frenchie everyone keeps talking about and he becomes the next Mario Lemieux.
