can we please stop talking about zadina who scored at a 0.54 PPG clip (albeit in a small sample) as a 20-year-old on a team that couldn't score

As I pointed out recently, Zadina is about middle of the pack in that list of 6th overall picks. I take from that 2 things: 1. Even if he stays there he is certainly not a bust relative to his draft position. 2. If half of 6th overall draft picks turn out to be bottom half of the roster NHLers or worse, Zadina can't be a bust because you can't apply the term "bust" to such a large number. Busts are supposed to be rare. Not half of the players.

I just see 30 better teams lining up to sign Krug. The only way he chooses Detroit is if he cares a lot more about being closer to his family than he does winning. Even if he does choose us, I still think it's a bad move. Krug plays very sheltered minutes for Boston. He only plays 16 minutes of even strength a night (#4 spot) and is hauling in close to 4 minutes a night of PP time... Much more than any other Bruin, including the forwards. Likewise, he never touches the short-handed unit and is deployed heavily in offensive zone starts. 57% of his points this season came on the power play. Essentially - if we remove the PP - we're looking at a Dman who's going to give you very limited minutes, very minimal actual defense, and will net you 25-30 even strength points in a full season. We are the last team in need of a player like that. We need big minute eaters who are going to protect Bernier and help in all zones. Krug isn't a top Dman in this league. He's a PP specialist. But someone is gonna overpay him in cash and term most likely and I hope it's not us.

I don't read The Athletic, but I know a number of you do, so here's a piece: How much the NHL Draft lottery could affect the Red Wings' rebuild timeline [The Athletic]

I've officially lost my patience. Governors need to get their s*** straight. I'm in agreement with those saying organizations have to choose playoffs or lotto. I'm not 100% convinced that's the real holdup...but, yeah, it probably is. Or is at least a big part of it.

All of this AND: You kind of have to bust or show signs of busting before you're a bust! By this age, Fedorov, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Mantha, and Larkin did not have as many GP or Points in the NHL. Come at me with "But Yzerman" did.

I agree that this is probably the case, which is ******* gross. The team 9th overall can get bounced in the best of 5 round and win the ******* lottery. Speaking of which, Edmonton is 9th because of course. s*** or get off the pot, BoG.

I think its teams nr 17 to 24 that both wants to be in the playoffs and still be eligible for the lottery when/if they get knocked out in the first round. edit; just realized I just repeated what you said. I could add that those teams can f*** off. Choose either playoffs or lottery. Thats it.

As I said in another thread - me thinks the BoG wants an expanded draft lottery which would include more teams - likely those that are 'booted' early from the 24 team playoff format. It's not surprising...Too many cooks in the kitchen.

I still maintain if they go with a 7 team lottery, it is unfair for a team to fall 3 spots. IMO The most a team can fall is 1 and the most a team can climb is 4. So again, that would put Detroit at #1 if teams 6 or 7 get picked. There is no other way to do it. Ottawa can only fall to 3 & 4, Detroit can only fall to 2. ANY team 1-5 can win. This is when Bettman should tell them to shove it. I am very interested in seeing a 24 team playoff though! Would it still be 4 rounds? Would it take more than 16 wins for The Cup? I wonder how that would work, would certain teams get a bye in the first Round Robin. 24 teams - 12 teams - 6 - 3?
