    Hudler?

I figured we should just have a thread for this because it comes up in every other thread at least once. A strong start for Hudler, and Mursak a few weeks away... How much does he have to do to make him a valuable trading commodity? EDIT: Alright I am done, there is no reason for a negative 12 for simply making a placeholder for the conversation we always have. It was done so every other thread doesn't turn into it. So go ahead delete it whatever. I don't care, I don't much care for online hate. Got like plus three for running a draft thread that took my entire evening and get a negative 12 for a post to try and keep other threads clean. I am sick of anonymous internet hate.

I have wonderful memories of all of the Cup wins in my lifetime, but there was something about '02...whether it was watching Nick score from center ice and telling my hubby, "This changes everything. We're gonna take it all."...or sitting up til 1AM watching the three overtime game...being in Sault Ste Marie for the 7-0 laugher and loving every minute of it...telling a Carolina fan, "Wings in five - you watch." - and being dead on correct. Or maybe it was watching a shy, soft spoken young man begin to show just what magic he had up his sleeve...hearing people say, "Who is this guy?", and then hearing them say, "Who is this guy?" He had people turning heads from the very start...what a joy it's been to watch him. '97 brought tears to my eyes, because it was the first time in my whole life that we had the Cup...'98 was tearful for different reasons...'02 was pride...'08 was even more so. I sure would love to see it happen again.

    NHL Marketing

The NHL should be running ads showing empty basketball courts and then flashing to filled hockey arenas with roaring fans. Why isn't there a "Watch Us" campaign right now? In my opinion, the NHL does the WORST job out of any professional sport marketing itself. You're more likely to see an ad for premier league soccer than one for the NHL. Right now is a perfect time for the NHL to get a lot of new fans, and instead, they're focusing on Brendan Shanahan handing out 35 suspensions a week. Bad move if you ask me.

    Season-Long Lines Thread

Honestly, I think those folks live in a perfect world where if Emmerton/Mursak or Miller gets sent down, nobody would touch them and they would remain in the organization. None of those players would make it through waivers. Some folks just don't get the concept that in this organization, as long as a player is waiver exempt, they are the one going to be sent down... ...he probably also thinks that since Smith was recalled from GRR, that it means he is here for the rest of the season because in all his line combos Commodore is missing... He has to get it through his head that Smith/Nyquist/Tatar etc... would only be temporary fill-ins for injuries and will be the ones sent to Rapids when the team is healthy. The more pressing matter will be when Mursak gets back, who goes? I know that is a little while from now, but if Emmerton keeps it up and Brunnstrom plays like he did in the pre-season, it's going to be a tough, tough decision to be made... I am all for the kids revolution, but I also like Miller...

    Season-Long Lines Thread

So Helm is lower on the totem pole than Nyquist? Hudler has already proven to us he needs a playmaker to set him up, Nyquist is a scorer and Eaves is a checker, Hudler would be useless on that line. Plus you're still of opinion that Commodore won't be with the Wings anymore? Smith will ONLY be here for injury call ups, he will not have a permanent position on this team until at least next season. (barring major injury.) I know you said these are lines you would like to see, but can you keep it within reality? I'd like to see Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Ovechkin but it ain't gonna happen. I'd like to see Filppula on Datsyuk's line again, they seemed to work wonderfully in the playoffs together. I also liked the Cleary - Helm - Eaves combo. Bert - Zetterberg and Franzen are great too. That would leave Abby, Holmstrom and Miller (rotating with Brunner and Emmerton.) No I didn't forget about Hudler, of course he will go where he can score, but I just cannot bring myself to list him on the first line with Datsyuk without my fingers burning...

Pat, I agree with everything you just said. I didn't even start watching the game of hockey until after I married. Since hubby is from New England, it was assumed that we would be a hockey household. The year after we married, the Preds came to Nashville. Needless to say, the hubby created a monster. So seeing some "old" guy, as the media called Chris Chelios, win the Cup in '02 and '08 were special to me.

97 - OMG! after 40 years we finally did it! (people acknowledge the wings as a championship team/franchise) 98 - HO** SH** we did it again! back to back! were unstoppable! (confirms to the world that Detroit really is hockey-town. experts wonder if this could be the beginnings of the next dynasty) 02 - Superstar studded roster baby! were the yankees of hockey b*****s! (people acknowledge our superstar greatness, but say that we just buy our championships now) 08 - Damnnnn! we are the greatest hockey team of the last 10 years! (at last proves to the world that we dont buy championships and that we dont need to rebuild, were just that good) each year was fantastic in different ways, and each year contributed uniquely, yet perfectly, to the growth of this team into the prestigious franchise it is today. but really there's nothing like 97....its like heroin....winning is always good, but it's never as good as it was the very first time

I don't believe someone who saw the 1997 cup run could say this. I have to agree with Beth, it was anti-climactic. While the comeback on the Canucks and the shelling of Roy in Game 7 following the statue of liberty hilarity the game before were nothing short of memorable, nothing in my lifetime will beat the intensity of seeing the Wings take on the Avs again following a huge disappointment the year previous and the emotion behind getting the Cup after so long.

They were all special in their own way, 2008 was the most satisfying for me. Given that it was post lockout, post Yzerman, Shanahan and Federov and the re-emergence of Osgood in the playoffs that season. It all but debunked the theory that the Wings only "buy championships." It was proof that the Wings are a well run organization that drafts well, treats veterans well and is indeed the true "Hockeytown."

    Bouchard suspended 2 games

Everyone knew Shanny was going to come in with guns a blazin' this year, and he has. It's 5 days into the season he's not letting up anytime soon. I agree with 2 mins high sticking, and i agree with 4 for drawing blood, however I also agree with 2 games for leaving someones teeth on the ice. Shanny is actually going to make these guys think before reacting, people can ***** all they want to but somewhere along the line SOME guys have lost respect of their fellow players and Shanny is trying to get that back imo.

The thing is, what defines a "staged fight"? Many people have differing definitions of this. Personally, I don't think the NHL can't be like "Oh, no you can't fight off a draw" but say "Feel free to scrap after a hit, because that shows emotional ties to the game". I feel either ban it completely, or leave it as it is. Ban it completely, though, and watch the game become a spineless cheapshot frenzy.

    Hudler?

Obviously, the Hudler trade talk has reached the saturation point; but isn't it more valuable to the Wings if Hudler and Filppula simply perform at high levels as opposed to 'well enough to be traded'? Personally, I'd rather see them play well and help this team than play just well enough for us to try and steal someone else.

    Eric Nystrom on waivers

Mmm... I see what yoiu're saying with Nyquist and I wouldn't have been upset if it was his roster spot instead of Brunnstrom's, but I like the decision that was made there. I say keep as many assets as you can. Giving Brunnstrom a spot gives us another potential asset for the future - some have said they see him as a potential replacement for Holmstrom, etc. I think Nyquist is still too small - Brunnstrom as a full size NHL player. And, Nyquist will benefit more, I believe from playing all the time in GR instead of rotating games and plkaying 10-12 minutes when he does play, as Brunnstrom will. The Wings will lose a few players next year and Brunnstrom and Nyquist can potentially both step in and fill full-time roles at that time. Just my thoughts. Also, totally agree with the bottom part of your post. Well, I can't speak to the parts about you specifically, but I just do not understand the pro-enforcer faction on this board. It seems as though they all want a fighter at all costs and it doesn;t really matter which one or if he even knows how to skate. It's like they all really love fighting and find hockey boring without it, but they don't want to say that. So, they make all these hollow arguments to justify wanting this goon or that goon without revealing that they just want a fighter because they fight - end of discussion - no other reason. I mean, a guy that drops the gloves becomes available.... you can bet that there will be a thread with his name on it on LGW within the hour, doesn't matter who it is or what else he can do, if anything. Somebody call Brent Severyn - we need him on this team.

Blah I hope not. Just switch Nashville to the Southeast. Winnipeg to the Northwest and move Minnesota to the Central. Problem solved.

    Eric Nystrom on waivers

If that's a shot about signing Brunnstrom i agree. I thought we shouldn't have signed him and instead should have played Nyquist. As for my comment earlier, it seems every time some scrub gets waived , but fights, the fight slappies want Holland to pick him up even though he is absolute garbage. Case in point, this thread. A. This thread. B. Not true in the slightest. There are plenty of guys that I like that also fight. C. I do, I even point it out earlier in the thread. Maybe you should read the entire thread before trying to call me out

Here's how I would do it: Eastern Conference: 1) North East Division = Montreal, Winnepeg, Toronto, Ottawa 2) Colonial Division = Boston, Philadelphia, New York Rangers, Washington 3) Atlantic Division = Buffalo, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Pittsburg 4) South East Division = Carolina, Tampa Bay, Florida, Nashville Western Conference: 1) Midwest Division = Detroit, Columbus, Chicago, Minnesota 2) Southern Division = St. Louis, Dallas, Colorado, Phoenix 3) Pacific Division = Anaheim, Los Angeles, San Jose, Portland 4) North West Division = Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Seattle Each team gets: (6) games vs eacg division opponent = 18 games (4) games against each non-division, conference opponent = 48 games (1) game against each opposing conference opponent (alternate 2 divisions away / 2 divisions home each year) = 16 games total games = 82 games DONE.
