Notes courtesy (Joe89 of HFboards) Kenny: -Mentions Glendening in Grand Rapids success like he's our prospect. -Thinks Howard can be a top6-8 goalie during the course of his contract. -Helm feeling better, will skate at development camp. -Wants to keep Kindl, says due for a raise. -"If you got 10 good prospects, 6 will make it". -Backman "going to camp"(I suppose development), then back to Sweden for another year before "turning pro". -Says the veterans on the team are excited about moving to the East, play some new opponents. -Said multiple times they're disappointed with losing to Chicago even if it was a learning experience. -Says that both sides probably could've gone longer term with Pavel, but that both were happy with another four years(in total). Hopes for one year extensions afterwards, says Pavel wouldn't ever play anywhere else in the NHL. -Thinks true cup contenders are a thing of the past. -Asked if Howard/Mrazek might turn into a Luongo/Schneider, Quick/Bernier etc. scenario. Says they have the option to play him another three years in the American league without worrying about waivers. At 21 years of age, they need him to play 60 games, not 15. Says next year is AHL for sure as Gus is signed, and then make a decision next summer if it's time to bring him up. Says he will play som pre-season games in the fall. -Would love to get a legitimate top pairing/top3 defenseman, will make room if needed. -DeKeyser, Nyquist, Tatar, Andersson, Lashoff are expected on the team from the Griffins. -confirmed HBO 24/7.

    Letang Turns Down 8x$7m

But Shero is GM of the year! I thought he could sign EVERYONE!

This looks like "Jordan Staal Part II". Quite frankly I'm surprised Shero made that kind of offer. Does he not understand that one of the contributing factors to the Pens failures is the fact that they have no depth? Crosby makes almost $9 mil per year, Malkin is over $9 mil, Fleury, Martin and Neal are all making $5 mil. And now you want to blow another $7 mil on a one dimensional defenseman? I think they're lucky he rejected the deal.

    Letang Turns Down 8x$7m

Bonehead move on Letang's part. The only way he is going to get anything more than that is from a bottom feeder that is willing to pry open their wallet. Secondly, how in the world could Shero even offer that much? He does realize that he needs more players on the team than a goalie, 2 centers and a defenseman, right?

    Letang Turns Down 8x$7m

This is weird to me. 7M/yr for 8 years is a great offer. It's says he's asking for more than 7.5 but less than 8. There's no significant difference really. All of this makes it seem to me like he wants out of Pitts.

Kronwall is pretty close offensively, and I would much rather have kronner and his cap hit than Letang

That would be even better, I did it this way as a worst case scenario...If we could trade him we'd still have another buyout for next year should Franzen have a terrible year or if someone else fails to live up to their contract.

does EVERYONE forget that Tootoo played 42 out of 48 games this season, maybe he didn't get a lot of ice time, but he was still playing almost every night...

Yeah I am sure for those few its fine... why don't we ask the other 99% of vets who aren't Chicagoans?

I'm with Drake on this one... I'd rather see us trade up if we can and land ourselves a top flight forward that could hopefully come onto the big team right away and make an impact rather than a few extra lower seeded guys that will take a few years to develop

    Brunner Contract Talks

I'd be happy with any of the numbers you guys are throwing around. He's a kid I want to enjoy watching the next 3-4 years. I'm betting he turns into a true sniper.

Holland is willing to play the 'quality NHL team' market price, not the Minnesota Wild inflated joke price. There's a reason why those joke, overpayment contracts are attached to joke teams.

Sounds like McCarron is someone we should target as well. WMU>>>Grand Rapids>>>Detroit. I like.

that's verging on all star money, I can see 5 mil, but not 6. Maybe if he is willing to be talked down I would take him for 5

Horton looking 6m for 5/6 years

These FAs need to dial back their expectations a bit... with salary cap getting across board reduction it basically equals a salary decrease vs value for all player contracts going forward.

    Lidstrom or Orr

I agree, he was better than any other defenseman in his era. He was the very first "offensive defenseman". That's the reason he scored so much...because he tried to do it. In those days all defensemen were stay-at-home. That's how they played the game. Bobby revolutionized that. HOWEVER, saying that he's the best of his age doesn't then also mean that he's the best ever. Bobby could never do that against today's competition because everybody does it now, and therefore teams plan for it. Lidstrom would score just as many points, no matter what era, because he scored them classically. Point shots and assists. He was just SUPER good at it. But technically speaking he didn't score in a different way than McInnis, Iafrate, etc. etc. etc. I compare the Bruins with Orr to Bill Walsh's 49ers and their "west coast offense". They tore it up because nobody had seen it or figured it out yet. However, eventually everybody caught up. So now, when a team running a west coast offense puts up gaudy numbers (though still less than the 49ers), it's actually more impressive because it's not succeeding because it's new, it's succeeding because it's executed well.
