I spent the summer thinking Coreau had to pass through waivers too, but I read an article earlier today that stated he's likely waiver-exempt. I'm thinking a few of the sites I use to keep track of contracts/waiver status are wrong. The writer cited CapFriendly as his source. Reading it over, I'm thinking he's correct. https://www.capfriendly.com/waivers-faq https://www.capfriendly.com/players/jared-coreau Based on the information from both of those links, Coreau signed at 21, and goaltenders who sign at 20-22 years of age have 4 years/60 games until they're waiver-eligible. I think the mix up occurred because, while Coreau signed in 2012-13, he didn't play his first professional game until 2013-14. CF's waiver FAQ states: For players whom are 20 or older, the year in which they play their first Professional Game (e.g. NHL, AHL, ECHL, KHL, European Leagues) is the year which is considered their first year towards the waiver exemption; however, the player must be under an NHL contract. So I mean, unless their information is incorrect/I'm misreading something, it looks as the team can safely send him back down to Grand Rapids this season.

There's more to good defense than just defending. If you're focusing on blocking shots and "hitting everything in sight," you're focusing on playing without the puck -- and in this day and age, playing without the puck is playing losing hockey. All those dominant Wings teams of yesteryear? They played with the puck and forced the opposition to focus on blocking shots and hitting. They forced the opposition to endure, and enduring is death. And enduring has never been more death than it is today. Today's game is about speed and skill and possession prowess. It's about having the puck and doing good things with it. http://www.defendingbigd.com/2012/4/13/2941077/dave-tippett-defense-mark-fistric-matt-niskanen

Don't get us all giddy with these exhibition game results and then have another mediocre season with a must game in game 82 to make it into the playoffs.

I'm not going to lie, there will be no easy roster decisions. The Ott-Glendening-Miller line has looked great and produced. Mantha and Athanasiou have looked good. Callahan definitely deserves time on our 4th line. There's a ton of competition and there just isn't enough room for everyone. I'd love to see all of these guys on the opening night roster.

The "sending the puck to the forward" part is exactly what he is talking about. If our D can't break it out worth a s*** then there isn't much our offense can do about it. Then it's right back to defending again.

Jensen has looked like hot garbage so far this preseason. A far cry from how he looked the last two.

Pav, Vegas would be stupid to claim any pending UFA. The draft is in June, Smith becomes a UFA July 1. They would waste a pick by selecting a player who could very well walk a couple of weeks later.

and you can act fanboyish all you want, since you are happy with every move of course you call everyone who sees a flaw in the masters plan a hater.....Although not having a number 1 center, number 1 defenseman and no star (not even talking about superstars) on the team would have most realistic people concerned. The Nielsen contract is too long for what he brings, period. This is a guy who can work great behind a stud center and with a sniper on his line. Do the Wings have that ? No. It's the same BS as the Ericson in Vancouver signing he doesn't help them long-term in fact he is going to hurt their chances Patrick, Liljekren by the time the canucks could be good again, he will be a 6 mill anchor...just like Nielsen will be. Still amazed that Anaheim and Detroit can't seem to workout a deal, ducks are screaming for more offense and wings are screaming for a quality defenseman. Either Holland and Murray really can't stand each other or Anaheim has a lower internal budget than some of us believe p.s.: wanna know what happens to teams that continuously refuse to accept roster flaws..look no further than the Leafs before Shanahan brought in Babcock, Lou and that drafting guru and of course the canucks Boa Horvat , Tanev and then what?...yep.

You can hate all you want. I'm quite happy to have those players for the foreseeable future. Can't wait till the season starts so the doom and gloomers can stop making up things to moan about. We're already talking about a cap crunch when Larkins contract is up? Christ...

Nice one timer by Frk. Kid can really shoot the biscuit. That's the exact type of thing that Pulkkinen needs to do at this level. Unfortunately he might be a bit too slow and/or small to go into traffic and get a shot off like that.

Dickie, did Mitch f*** your mom or sister or girl or something? I don't get it. Not a single person is saying that he needs to be on this team, or that if he gets claimed he'll be a big loss or anything. All anyone is saying is that he should be given a shot to make the team over Miller or Ott... Why is that so crazy to you? "To play the style he plays, you need to be big or fast. He's neither." The style who plays? Needs to be big or fast compared to who? Callahan is definitely faster than both Miller and Ott, and he's also bigger than both, listed at 6'0", 195lbs. vs. 6'2", 180lbs. and 6'0", 189 lbs. respectively...

Because his genius GM keeps re-signing the grey haired boat anchor every year. There's no question Callahan brings more to the table than Miller, but we're the Red Wings, so loyalty trumps all.
