To give away a promising center in exchange for an aging center who provides no exceptional scoring, we coulda called up Jarnkrok and see what he'd

And if he busts and cant compete at the NHL level then what?? The Wings are still trying to win right now. This fan base would not accept anything else so they went with a proven commodity that can help them now as opposed to a commodity that only has a chance of winning. Legwand is a better hockey player right now than Jarnkrok. When your trying to win now which do you think helps the most? Your putting Jarnkrok on a pedestal that he hasnt earned yet.

why are you here spewing bs? Honestly.... The preds and polie knows their the winners of the deal... Nashville fans who want legwand either don't know hockey or got attached to their mediocre 1st line center... They got way more back from the wings than anyone else would CONSIDER offering.... Unless they were a cup contender need a veteran 2nd/3rd liner...

He's giving a perfectly fine perspective from the other side of the coin.  He's also a respected member on here so please don't treat him like an idiot with nothing useful to add.

Lol he added some bs, salt to the wounds, he himself knows he's saying bs.... And like other said the trades that happened today, WE COMPLETELY OVERPAID for an aging mediocre 2nd at best likely 3rd liner... Holland just patched up and gave away part of our future and blessed Nashville

Holland is sure as hell ramping up the pressure on himself to draft a 1C in the next draft or two. This is the only way he can ever expect to survive the retirements of Datsyuk and Zetterberg and then Legwand and Weiss promptly along with them. We have NOTHING for the top 6 C outside of maybe Sheahan who may be over performing right now as we all projected him as a 3C at best. Helm will never be a top 6 C and we have SQUAT other than that.

Holland better be looking to take our 1st, 2nd (if we have it) and move way up to get a player like Draisaitl or something because we are looking terrible at C depth now in the minors.

Is there a kickstarter campaign for Jakub Kindl to never play another NHL game?

Just to put this trade in perspective as to why some of us don't like it, here's some examples of trades where it makes it seem like the Wings got fleeced:

Moulson and McCormick for Torrey Mitchell and 2 2nd round picks.

Vanek and a 5th for Colberg and a 2nd

Meszaros for a 3rd

Gaborik for Frattin a 2nd and a 3rd

Hemsky for a 3rd and 5th

Rundblad and Brisebois for a 2nd

Luongo and Anthony for Markstrom and Matthias

Robidas for a 4th

Penner for a 4th

So to be fair, I'd say Legwand (contract expires this summer = currently a rental) for Eaves a 3rd and instead of Jarnkrok a 5th sounds like a deal ANY OTHER TEAM GOT TODAY!

Am I happy we got Legwand? Yes.  Am I ok with what we gave up? No cause of Jarnkrok.

Only saving grace apparently after venting to my dad, apparently Jarnkrok was threatening to go to Sweden to play again per Malik, and getting fleeced in a trade by the Preds, we may have a future trade partner in them and he seems to think something big may be coming in the near future, possibly draft and that we're getting some centre from Russia.

Don't forget that 3rd turns into a 2nd if we make playoffs.

My post was not narrow minded, in fact I be;lieve I am one of the few narrow minded people on here right now, I am actually looking at this whole thing ogically, top 4 centers are injured, you need to do something, or else your 4th line center becomes your first line center, not good. Jarnkrok is a prospect, maybe he will turn out, maybe he will jet to europe, who knows. All I know is we got a good player to help us make the playoffs while datsyuk weiss and Z get better, and maybe we can make a push for the cup when they do. When did we as Red Wings fans start wanting to tank a season in order to keep a prospect?

Everyone hoots and hollers for Kenny to shake things up and make a trade, and trade one of our prospects cause we have so many, and when he actually does, everyone cries bloody murder. Sorry but they wanted a center to replace a center, unfortunately that meant giving up a good p[rospect, obviously Kenny tried not to, thats why the deal didnt go in till the last minute.

I keep telling myself this so I will eventually believe it so the trade stops bothering me deep down.

This summer?  Don't care too much about this coming draft.  I'd rather give up a 2nd and give a damn about the playoffs.

The Wings next big C to replace Hank and Z wont come in the draft. More than likely it will come in trade or FA. Anyone they draft wont be ready to take over those two's skates in time. Im basing that on I dont see Datsyuk staying past this contract with his want to end his career in Russia.

It was a bad trade...if you/we have to talk yourself into why it could or may eventually be an OK deal, it was a bad deal...period. The list of those deals, plus knowing that Legwand had the NTC and the Preds had no leverage...its almost unfathomable that such a respected GM dropped the ball so much. BTW...anybody ever seen interviews with our Asst GM Ryan Martin? Yhat dude is a goof who looks and sounds like he knows nothing about hockey except for what other people have told him. He looks like he'd piss himself if he ever had to negotiate with a Burke type.

You're right, the NTC and the fact that Legwand is freaking from Detroit anyhow, thats all in Holland's favor. I guess he's just lazy and didn't even try that hard. Its disappointing considering the history of this franchise. The DETROIT RED WINGS just got bent over by the Nashville whatevers.

I like Legwand though, and I'm not going to go ballistic about it. Hopefully KH retires soon.

I 'm sorry that ya'll lost Jarnkrok, but it ain't the end of the world,David Legwand wanted to play for his hometown ,that's why he wavied his NTC and the preds weren't gonna offer him a  contract

I don't like the trade either, but if Jarnkrok said to Holland that he wouldn't play another year in GR, trading him was the only option.

Z, Dats, Weiss, Sheahan and Glendening are all ahead on the Center depth chart. Even Andersson is. The return is not great but I'll wait and see how Legwand does. We needed help and the others who would've helped us (Edler, Ehrhoff, Kesler) would all have cost us better prospects.

I'm one of Jarnkrok's biggest fans but even I realize he didn't have a future with the Wings if he didn't want to be stuck in GR another year or two. Can't blame him, he's good enough to be given a shot in the NHL or be a star in the SHL.

We get a veteran center that just might actually help us, and if we re-sign him we could have this next season:

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Alfredsson
Franzen-Legwand-Nyquist
Tatar-Weiss-Abdelkader
Helm-Sheahan-Miller

Or some-such. Imo, good stuff.

We overpaid in the sense of Jarnkrok, but if the rumours are true and Jarnkrok was threatening to head back to the SEL, than the move by Holland may actually make sense once the smoke settles.  For the other part, we're all in pretty intense discussion, but we just don't like belittling the members on here, especially other teams visitors that come on here and are quite civil.  He's not Centcougar.

And after they get bounced from the playoffs we get to hear Holland dust off the old gem of a speech 'well its important to get into the playoffs, anything can happen, had a bounce gone our way' etc etc etc. The realistic outcome of this trade is the Wings sold more of their future to keep a streak alive that is meaningless anyway.

I've brought this up a couple of times in other threads and received no response throughout the season. The playoff streak clearly is NOT "meaningless" to the Wings' brass.

Sure, some fans (younger ones, I suspect, who don't remember the last time the team missed the post season) are willing to dismiss the streak's significance with a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately mindset. "Why only make the playoffs to lose in 4-6 games? A high draft pick is more valuable long term."

How terribly shortsighted.

In failing to make the playoffs, the Wings would reset 22 years of chasing a 29-year-old record. Prospects come and go. Making the playoffs for thirty straight years doesn't. Doing so would be more than once in a lifetime. It would be once in the history of hockey.

Does this mean that I like the Legwand trade? Not particularly. But the Wings were in desperate need of a center while trying desperately to make the playoffs for a consecutive 23rd year.

I, for one, am glad they're trying to keep the streak alive. Breaking the longest playoff streak in pro sports would be a huge feather in the Wings' collective cap, one that every fan should wear with enormous pride.

Go Wings!

The Isles had a very, very weak position. Everyone knew that not trading Vanek would be a disaster for them. That impacts prices.

Legwand probably called Holland and said he wanted to be traded there, and Holland, while playing Solitaire, asked his wet-behind-the-ears assistant to pull a trade out of his butt and here we are.

They did. Vanek is going to command a hell of a lot more money though after this season. I dont think the Wings wanted any part of that.

I have spent the last 3 days out of town on business. Only had time to check his forum a coupe of times while gone. Made a post or 2. I raced home today hoping that Holland would have rolled the dice and made a hockey move. Now we knw a few things.

1. Holland said: " No rentals". He lied. Legwand is a rental.

2. Holland: "would like to make a hockey move". This is a bad hockey move.

3. Holland gets screwed in every trade he makes the last few years. A 3rd round pick by itself is enough for Legwand.
