Damn; Shanaban had such a nice ring to it. You can't replace that.

Seems like a good move by the Leafs. But then again these things NEVER work out for them

Nothing more than a move to get a big hockey name to fill the position to ease fan backlash.

My only concern is him poaching staff from the Wings.

At least Dallas pretty much already hired anyone they'll get from us. But man oh man he better not lure Holland and Babs away. Last thing I need is yet another reason to hate that team.

Wow, that was fast.

I'm having such cognitive dissonance about this that I can't even comment intelligently about it.

I just posted in the Leafs thread this afternoon wondering about whether all the whispers about this move being a possibility were legit or just speculation.

I...guess I got my answer.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire for Shanny.  He traded the second most scrutinized job in hockey for the first most scrutinized job in hockey.  Geesh, we get it already, you're not afraid of the pressure!

More than one Leafs fan on hfb is hoping Shanny leads them to Blashill for next Leafs coach.

They were not there at the same time.

So who dishes out the suspensions during the playoffs now? Shouldn't be him could be seen as a conflict of interest.

It's expected Shanahan's deputies -- Steph Quintal or Brian Leetch -- will head up @NHLPlayerSafety on interim basis for balance of season.

Good.  Now the Leafs and the Leafs alone have to deal with him.

Can't wait to read the "Phoenix: I still think it's a hockey market" chapter of Gary Bettman's autobiography. I'm guessing it's going to be chapter 11.

The "Annual Maple Leafs' Christmas Party" just got a little more interesting...allegedly.

Damn you Shanny, did it have to be the Leafs? I used to like you.

And  he thought he had a difficult job before...

Pavel datsyuk is the best player in the world because he snatches the puck from unsuspecting players and  follows it up by the simultaneous undressing of the defence pairing. The goalie then gives up, and flops like a fish. The end result is a calm skate back to his bench  where he can bask in the praise of his multiple girlfriends from the motherland.

Interesting. A team with no idea of where it is going and what it is doing, hires someone with no experience. Good luck.

Why the Leafs, Shanny? That just feels wrong.
