Are we ever gonna stop the Lebda bashing?

As I scan the threads started in the last two games I see the following topics, "Osgood and Draper... turn the page", Lidstrom Final Year, with such replies as how slow he is, how he turns over the puck, how his offense is terrible. There's also "We need a goalie...Osgood is done, and my personal favorite and probably the most laughable, "Is Zetterberg on the decline?" Yes I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and yes last night was an abysmal outing by our winged warriors, Osgood let in four goals on 11 shots and yes he seems to be a step slower but two were not what I would call "bad" goals to give up. The Wings were giving up odd man rushes and we couldn't sustain any offensive pressure. It appears we have been hit with the injury bug again Abbey, Rafalski, Franzen, and now Cleary are all out. The part that I don't understand is the first half of this season, (yes two games ago) this team was playing so well that everyone thought the cup was on its way back. I know a lot can happen in half a season, (two more games) but it seems to me that the fall from grace was fast and hard. These are the same Detroit Red Wings that have the longest playoff streak in pro-sports history, these are the Red Wings whose idea of a terrible season is a first round exit, they have the same coach that was "the best in the NHL" a week ago, they have the same 40yr old graying leader that the city and press alike were begging to return. We have the same two forwards ESPN and Sporting News rated in the top 15 league wide. As for our goaltending, we have an aging backup who was praised for his first start this year, hell the idea of a 50/50 split was even being tossed around, and a rookie starter whom was a Calder runner up last year and has already posted a convincing shutout this season. Come on people the Lions would kill for this measuring stick. Now this is not to say that there aren't things to criticize about the team thus far, but the Red Wings have proven season in and season out that they know how to win, they always find a way to generate some kind of success...I understand why the press prints these headlines, it's polarizing and sells newspapers, I just don't get it from the fans. This team deserves the benefit of the doubt.

SO would it be 2, 4 minute periods where the first one is 4v4 and the second OT period 3v3? Or would teams have to switch on the fly at the 4 minute mark? I've always thought this was obvious as well. Hell, even only 2 pts for OT win and 1 pt OT loss. Three point system just season easier and more efficient.

You need to go back and look at others lists, if you're dismissing HIM because he was known as a cheap shot artist. I see several others on peoples fantasy lists that have pretty long rap sheets. The low that you speak of was a boarding penalty? Didn't Stuart take a penalty for that, 30 seconds into the game the other night? Sure the result was different, but the penalty was the same. I guess we should all pile on Gordie and Lindsay for being cheap shot artists too. The league even had to add 2 rules to deal with our heroes flagrant elbows and knees to opposing players. I know I didn't pick a popular choice here, but to dismiss his playing abilty at clutch times, because of one shot to a Red Wing is just missing the whole idea of this thread. Also, I didn't realize that Lemieux was on NHL '11, but then again the last time I played a video game, Pong™ was new on the market.

If the NHL would just get rid of these pesky goaltenders and defensemen, Kopecky could be a star in this league.

I'm still not crazy about this one, as it makes some games worth a different cumulative point total than others, but I can get on board with this one a LOT more than going back to stupid ties, or the current jacked up point system, which makes SO games worth MORE (grand total points awarded on the night) I don't have a problem with the consolation point for teams that lose in a SO, because you're not losing as a team and it's essentially a tie+ Reg/OT Win - 3pts SO Win - 2pts SO Loss - 1pt Loss in Reg/OT - 0pts ALL GAMES WORTH 3 TOTAL POINTS. It seems maddeningly obvious to me...

And for the first time this season the Leafs will lose a regular season game.

You are kidding, right? Every Saturday night, for the last 15-20 years, European players have had their toughness, desire & heart questioned on Canadian national TV, and it gets lapped up by a large portion of hockey fans. I remember during the 97 finals, LeClair had hold of Fedorov during a scrum along the boards. The effects mike picked up "******* commie bastard" clear as a whistle. Indeed. Didn't someone famous once say he wanted his children to grow up in a world they are judged not by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character?

The term "Whatever American" needs to go away... FOREVER... People are not Asian American, African American, Irish American, etc... they are American, Canadian, Russian, or wherever else their allegiance and citizenship lies... furthermore, the idiocy behind referring to a Canadian born and bred player as "African American" in itself is moronic and Iginla's interview where he lambasted the interviewer for referring to him as such, gave me a whole different level of respect for him... How about we stop caring about the color of a players skin and instead focus on the quality of the person off the ice and the player on the ice... I think it's great that this amazing game is expanding to all classes and races, but that should just be looked at as normal, not as something to be applauded, just something to be expected. Until we can get over ourselves, the PC BS that divides us (such as these titles) and STOP caring about these things, we will never evolve...

They are overthinking this. While I get it, why complicate it some more? Personally, I like the shootout, even though the Wings have struggled with it for whatever reason(s) recently. The problem isn't overtime format, IT'S THE POINT SYSTEM. You get a point for losing, that's just silly. 0 points for losing at any point in the game, no questions asked. 1 point for a shootout victory 2 points for a win in regulation/overtime

I'm sorry, but are you completely insane??? Elbow to the head? The closest the elbow came to the head was when Letang's elbow was next to Comeau's elbow when he hit him shoulder to shoulder, other than that, I don't see the elbow as coming even within 3 feet of the head. This is the bad part of the new rule....you are going to see guys get 5 and a game like this for perfectly clean hits that would never have been called penalties in the past.
