I support the players you listed, and I also support big goons who have no talent other than intimidating people and punching them in their faces. And no I don't care that those players don't skate well or score points. Just being completely honest with my feelings on this.

The game changed and so did the Wings. That's why we stay on top. Also I hate to break it to you, there are more and more Europeans being brought to the NHL. Less Russians, but an influx of Swedes and Fins. It's only a matter of time before the "guys who can take a punch from Orr" are gone form the game. Dallas Drake was a special player. Look at his age, though, he was near the last of a dying breed. There are maybe only a handful of guys in the league that fight and score on a regular basis. The only person on the Wings I'd replace with a guy who makes the same as him, or slightly more, would be Miller. i think Miller is highly replaceable, but as I've stated before is that our 3rd and 4th lines are the best in the NHL. Why would you want to change that? And there is no such thing as an intimidating "corner digger". Wings have two of the more devastating open ice hitters in the league. Picky picky.

Hah! Don't make me laugh. Sorry, but big does not = tough. At no point, other than the occasional rare fight, have I seen Ericsson display a true mean streak. I'd say he's about as intimidating as Eric Daze.

Give me Danny Cleary and all the intangibles he brings over a knuckle dragger any day.

This poll is terrible. Prust is the only guy that can actually play hockey. The other two are garbage. If the poll was "Would Prust be a welcome addition to this team", I would have said yes. But you have two pylons. 2/3 are pylons so I was forced to say no. Prust would look good in a Winged wheel, as he actually has talents and is really starting to come into his own since last season. Neil and Prust ar emuch much better players than Konopka and Rupp. That's like saying would you trade Helm for a player like Eaves/Miller/Filppula/Franzen? There is such a huge discrepancy in skill and point production.

I just read the best idea for Nabby yet. Tell Snow you're ready to play. Show up, play a period or so, then fake an injury. It's been working for DiPietro for years now. Then he can go where he wants when the season is over, and there's nothing the Isles can do about it.

Filppula has almost 50% more points than Fischer and makes 1.2 million less than him. AND you want to give away a pick/prospect with Filppula? Does your obsessive fascination with men touching each other blind any logic or reason from your mind completely, or is it only 90%?

Ah... couldn't have said it any better myself. If the Wings *wanted* to sign George Parros or Derek Boogaard, you wouldn't see any objection from me. I'll value an enforcer over the likes of Jiri Hudler any day of the week, and twice on Sunday... and that's just my opinion.

That is my opinion. I don't see the appeal of enforcers, but if we need one to win, we should get one. If we don't need one to win, we shouldn't get one. Right now, I don't think we need one.

My opinion is for whichever choice will give the Wings the best chance game after game to win.

Yeah but do you see those guys on our team right now that dig in corners intimidating anyone with their digging?! No, you can argue definitions all you want but Detroit doesn't have that guy who can go out there on forward and really change momentum with a big hit game in and game out. Helm and Abby can hit, but they dont really do it that often. Having a guy like Clutterbuck would really help this team, he swings the momentum of games because he is always hitting everything that moves and it does make the defence want to give up the puck earlier. Eaves is a very good bottom line guy but he doesn't hit hard really, Miller does nothing of note out there, Helm and Abby hit on occasion when they feel like it and Cleary can throw his weight a bit too. But Detroit lacks that one guy who is a heat seeking missile out there looking to crush anything that moves, these players really get the other teams defence worrying when they are on the ice. Digging in the corners is great and we can argue the definition of grit, but are you really that dense to say that digging in corners is as gritty as a guy who does dig in corners AND throws big hits and will scrap on occasion? Detroit fans are used to sitting here and saying oh our team can take alot of hitting and cheap stuff against us so we're tough. Why not be able to do that AND dish it out? I swear there are a lot on this website that started watching the wings when they became very European right around the lock out and if the wings adopted a different style of play they would not be fans anymore...

Bring back the NHL of the 80s and 90s. The NHL of now is starting to remind me of the crap they called Slap Shot 2. With all the "family" and fairy nonsense.

It's always about enforcers. Same 'debate' as always. I put debate in quotes there because you can't really call it a debate when no one really disagrees on any of the salient points. No one wants a one-dimensional goon. Everyone agrees a guy who can play and fight would be nice to have. We all know it isn't an absolute necessity, but we all admit it wouldn't hurt. What are we actually debating? The only reason it's ever discussed at all is because most of us over-invest ourselves in our team, to the point of trying to live vicariously through the team. So when someone on the team looks like a punk, the fan feels like a punk. Or from another direction, the 'softness' of the team gets pointed out, the fan feels soft. It's all the same thing, just slightly different buttons that trigger our insecurities, and a different balance of aggressive/defensive coping responses. There's your daily psycho-analysis. Reflect.

Crosby has a concussion, he is still not practicing and has missed a lot of games. Datsyuk had a charlie horse that caused him to miss 1 period before the ASG. Lidstrom had tendinitis and missed no time. I think Crosby's condition is a little more serious, and it's probably not a good idea to attend an event like this with an injury as serious as his. We all know the Wings, Holland, Datsyuk, and Lidstrom were "embellishing" the injuries to allow them more time to rest. Get over it OP.

Nice post. Agreed with everything said here. Does this guy realize that this is year and last year (i think) are the first couple of seasons in a while where we havent had an enforcer? Weve had may, and downey around the last few years to help keep the cheap shots away. I believe the wings will have some enforcer type players coming up in abby (who also brings skill to the table) and callahan. nothing to worry about here. Im sick of these teams who come in with 4 roster spots of goons and think theyre the s***. ill take the banners over PIM all day long baby.
