My wife says watching the Wings is turning me into a cranky old man much faster than nature and biology so I guess I'll go play some Gran Turismo 5 for awhile... Driving ridiculously expensive cars is always fun.

So two years of this idiot and two years of sloppy, sloppy, play. I also heard they thought he was a idiot when he coached the defence in Atlanta. So will we see a coaching change with the defence or will Babcock keep him on staff? If he goes what are some potential replacements as I am tired Of Detroit looking so sloppy in their own end.

This changes the balance of power now in the NHL.

I'm glad the players are getting booed. They're getting paid how much money to essentially play a game for a living? Earn your ******* paychecks, assholes.

well I guess its a positive the boo's are on display. maybe if that doesn't work we should invest in some eggo waffles ?

you're right, the wings are giving the preds a ton of room to skate. they are doomed and the coach should be fired. you're right, the wings cannot maintain any kind of pressure. they are doomed and the coach should be fired. you're right, this team is known to never give any team any room to skate and continuously applies pressure every game every year, without exception. they are doomed and the coach should be fired. i honestly can't explain why the wings aren't scoring more often. it's not from a lack of talent or effort. but regardless, they are doomed and the coach should be fired.

While I understand the impetus to blame the coach when the team out on the ice isn't doing its job, making poor decisions, and generally playing like ass.......there's only so much a coach can do. At the end of the day, these are grown men making in some cases millions of dollars to do this for a living. They know what the hell they're supposed to be doing out there, and Babcock yelling, screaming, and pulling a Bobby Knight isn't going to make them do it any better. No, it's the players' fault if they aren't doing their jobs. Babcock isn't out there, he's not making the boneheaded moves or letting in weak goals. He's trying to get them NOT to do that.

The Red Wings look like a bunch of yambags out there.

Just a really good play from Legwand to get Cleary off the puck and set up the shot.

Okay, time to get serious... I told my daughter she can't go to bed yet and she put the good luck Dats jersey on.

If O'Halloran is on the ice tonight, we'll have plenty of reasons to use the word yambag again.

I guess Holmstrom won't be getting a goal in his first game back.

You could just as easily ask, why would Nabokov bother to sign a contract when there was little to no chance of him starting for the Wings. He mentioned helping a team in the playoffs, but then why sign for Detroit? There was almost zero chance of him clearing all the teams in waivers, then outplaying Howard enough to convince Babcock to start him. As I've said before though, Nabby's agent said he'd play anywhere. Which you'd have to believe at the time since he bothered coming back this season and subjecting himself to waivers. And so what if the Isles have zero playoff hopes? Snow still needs to ice an NHL team and try to get fans to come to games. His only option was a kid that they hope will be a good goaltender for the franchise someday. I understand why they wouldn't want him to be the one suffering as the starting goaltender for the Isles that early in his development. Snow has a goaltender under contract in Nabokov, so I also understand him not picking up Emery. Don't get me wrong, the Isles management has made a lot of unbelievably stupid moves. This one, I pretty much understand. And I also don't get why people think Snow somehow looks like an ass in this situation, but so many people are okay with Nabokov no honoring his NHL contract and refusing to report, which is extremely unprofessional. He may not be helping a team in the playoffs, but when you jump ship to the KHL then bail on that and subject yourself to waivers, you might not have the pick of the litter when it comes to which NHL team you get to start for. Even without the postseason Nabby could've used this season with Islanders to re-establish himself as a starting NHL goaltender and signed a big contract next year. Exactly. This bitching is all about Nabokov not making it to the Wings. Before this deal, most people probably didn't even know who the GM of the s***ty Isles team was.

So explain to me then why Garth Snow went from being someone who was never mentioned in any respect, as a goaltender or a GM, to being the most hated man on LGW. For what reason was the "Yzerman puts Mike Smith on waivers" thread a Garth Snow bashfest? And Nabokov wasn't "looking to help someone for the playoffs" he was looking to be an NHL starter again, preferably on a playoff team. There aren't a lot of teams out there where he could have just stepped in and said "hey, I'm your new starting goalie" and the Isles certainly aren't one of them. Don't make Nabokov out to be some innocent victim here. Nabokov signed a cheap contract with Holland knowing he'd have to pass through waivers to play for the Wings. Snow picked him up. Nabokov refused to play for the Isles. Live with it. Snow being the GM of a franchise doomed to death before he even got there as a player does NOT make him a bad GM.

Trade Deadline and You are GM.

I wouldn't say Mesz is either better defenseively or more physical. In a similar amout of games since the lockout, Stuart has around 200 more hits. Both are solid 2nd pair guys who can fill in on a top pair when required. Mesz is no more a shutdown defender than Stuart. He is younger, but I'm not building the defense around either so I don't care. Regardless, even if I did think Mesz was better, he is certainly no where near enough of an improvement to include a 2nd rounder and a prospect. You even point out that our defense isn't physical enough and then propose trading our most physical defender for someone who hits less, and you throw in a pick that could easily garner a big, physical defender 6 years younger than Meszaros if we decided to go that way. Or, if we decided to trade the pick and maybe a low pick or prospect, we could get another defenseman of similar quality. (As proven by the trades involving the very players we're talking about.) Your proposal was a gross overpayment. I don't think you know what 'good' looks like. Stuart isn't an all-star, but neither is Meszaros. You trade Stu AND a 2nd AND a prospect with even a hint of NHL potential you better get an all-star in return or you're getting robbed.

The solution to the problem is trade for a goalie. Wings are not going deep in the POs with Howard in net.
