Boo hoo. This spoiled little punk isn't sorry at all. You always get these fake "oh I'm sorry" when they get caught. He is not sorry at all. He is sorry he got caught, and is sorry he is suspended form his polo team. Thats all. Now he wants sympathy...******* pathetic. What a little puck *****. I hope someone kicks his ass into next week. -

Lidstrom agrees to 1-year, $6.2m contract
55fan and one other reacted to commadore183 for a post in a topic
Lidstrom returning? With the numbers he has (4 Stanley Cups, 6 Norris, numerous All-Star appearances, Conn Smythe winner and Olympic gold medalist), he would command MUCH more than $6.2M on the open market, so he is taking less money to play with the Wings than if he were to go anywhere else. -

Oh, so because Lidstrom has already made a lot of money, he should take peanuts to spend even MORE time away from his family and bring in ticket sales, merchandise sales, and an even better product to the Detroit Red Wings because he owes it to them? What a joke. -

We could have him do that in the concourse on nights he is scratched from the lineup, you know keep him close to home. -

I just hope he's not coming back for another 2nd round exit. This team better make whatever moves necessary to be a serious Cup contender next season. I want to see him retire on top. -

This is terrible news. Ericsson is clearly ready to become the number one D-man on this team (and has for a while), and this Lidstrom guy keeps holding him back every year with these comebacks. It may be time for Big Rig to take his talents elsewhere. -

1 pointBeautiful, that post is all WIN! Stevie was a fraction of his former self, he was playing 3rd/4th line role. I love the guy, but he was no longer a point per game player, not saying he wasn't good, and that he wasn't still the best Red Wing Ever, IMO, but there was a dip in performance and some very tough injuries. Steve was a warrior no doubt and played with a ton of heart through a ton of pain that would have forced others to retire. Conversely Lids is still (depending on your opinion) a or the top defenseman in the game, put up 62 points, granted his plus minus was atrocious and the worst of his career, but he was a Norris Candidate, and IMO was the best D-man in the game this season. He is still the top D man on this team, soon that will be Kronwall, but for now it is Lids. He deserves to be paid the most on the team, he is still the team MVP, again he just played a full season, he has now played 76+ games in every season of his career except 94-95. Lids will never replace Yzerman as the greatest Wing of all time, however he deserves to be paid more than Stevie did at the end of their careers.

He's the face of the franchise, team captain, will be playing until he's 41, is a finalist for the Norris trophy once again and people want him to take a pay DECREASE? We should be glad he's back for that cheap. -

Yeah, I guess him being the captain, going to media events, winning the cup four times as a key contributor and being the best defenseman of the past decade or so doesn't constitute as going beyond the call of duty. What a selfish knob. -

$6.2 is fine ... salary cap is going up, Ralfalski's $6 mill is off our cap ... you can't pay him 2nd tier D-man money like $4-5 mill, he deserves the kind of respect of a top tier Dman and Captain. Those of you who thinks he should pay for free .. stop being so cheap. We want to be a classy organization. -

So you're saying that 4.75 is an insult to a player of his calliber with incentives that would more than likely put it up to 6.2-6.5? Seriously? And where did this sense of bickering come in? I clearly stated that I had no problem either way, but I wanted to throw it out there for conversations sake. Tell me how that is considered "bickering?" Haha. -

Yeah, I am with you NFM. I dont understand why people always want superstars to take paycuts because they have been in one place for a long time. Lids has given us everything. Hes still competing for the Norris. Find 5 other defensemen that can put up 60 points. Pay cut? Why? Because he is not 26 anymore? I simply dont get it. Lids is worth whatever Holland will pay him. We should count our lucky stars that he is and has been on our team. With once-in-a-generation players it doesnt matter about money. -

That a serious injury to a player, one month into the season when he's starting out on a new team, can reduce his effectiveness for the entire season.
