Step 1) Sign/trade for Bobby Ryan and Colton Orr Step 2) Do a Vulcan Mind Meld Step 3) Put Colton Ryan in as a goal-scoring forward to do our fighting. Step 4) Get Bobby Orr out there to play defense. Ok, now that I've got the silliness out of my head, I would not mind having Colton Orr on the team. The enforcer debate has been done to death, and I've given my nickel's worth time and again, but one thing the team seemed to be lacking, especially during the playoffs, was joy. I know that sounds silly, but they all looked like they were going through the motions- like they were just doing what they were doing but had no purpose. One thing we always hear about with guys like Downey (for example- not saying "bring him back") is how they lift the spirits of the other guys. They kind of act as an internal cheerleader. They build them up when they need the confidence. Enforcers are commonly the "funny guy" in the locker room. No, not that way. Get your minds out of the gutter. I mean they're the guy that cracks the jokes and lightens the mood. They get the team up before the big games, and then go to their place in the press box. Or they play and do their duty. Sure, we need a defenseman. We need a top six guy. We know who most of us want for those spots. July 1st only comes once a year. I'm sure Kenny will be focused on those two, plus any backup plans should those guys get snapped up quickly. But we also need a guy who can bring the joy of playing hockey back to the locker room. And that, my friends, could very likely be an enforcer. Go for it, Kenny!

Several topics have been focusing on the offseason, and the pressure is clearly on Ken to shake things up. Personally, I feel that we need at least one sniper, and at least one grinder for the bottom 6 that will give the 4th line some identity and make this team harder to play against. Obviously, a guy that can contribute offensively once in a blue moon, and a guy capable of skating a regular shift. This list (To nobody's surprise) will focus on the grit aspect. Below is the mother of all lists of both UFAs and RFAs that I feel will make this team harder to play against. The player's age, stats, and cap hit are included. FORWARDS (UFA): *Shane Doan- 35 years old, 50 points and 48 penalty minutes in 79 games, $4.55 mil. He's be a good addition for the top 6. Ideally, I'd like someone younger but he is still an effective player and leader *Taylor Pyatt- 30 years old, 19 points and 23 penalty minutes in 73 games, $1 mil *Dan Winnik- 27 years old, 23 points and 52 penalty minutes in 84 games. $950,000 *Jake Dowell- 27 years old, 7 points and 53 penalty minutes in 52 games, $800,000 *Brad Winchester- 31 years old, 10 points and 88 penalty minutes in 67 games, $725,000 *Byron Bitz- 27 years old, 4 points and 14 penalty minutes in 10 games, $700,000 *Rod Pelley- 27 years old, 3 points and 16 penalty minutes in 52 games, $550,000 I'd consider the following to be a 13th forward to dress when we play a tougher team, like the Blues. *Krys Barch- 32 years old, 5 points and 114 penalty minutes in 51 games, $837,500 *Jay Rosehill- 26 years old, 0 points and 60 penalty minutes in 31 games, $600,000 *Guillaume Desbiens- 27 years old, 0 points and 25 penalty minutes in 10 games, $525,000. Probably will get a 2 way deal with someone. DEFENSEMEN (UFA) *Jim Vandermeer- 32 years old, 4 points and 33 penalty minutes in 25 games, $1 mil FORWARDS (RFA): *T.J. Oshie- 25 years old, 54 points and 50 penalty minutes in 80 games, $2.35 mil *Matt Martin- 22 years old, 14 points and 121 penalty minutes in 80 games, $852,500 *Jamie Benn- 22 years old, 63 points and 55 penalty minutes in 71 games, $821,667 *Mike Blunden- 25 years old, 4 points and 27 penalty minutes in 39 games, $615,000 *Kyle Chipchura- 26 years old, 16 points and 42 penalty minutes in 53 games, $550,000 DEFENSEMEN (RFA) *Theo Peckham- 24 years old, 3 points and 80 penalty minutes in 54 games, $1.075 mil *Mark Fistric- 25 years old, 2 points and 41 penalty minutes in 60 games, $1 mil

For me it's Wake me up when the Summer ends!! September is the start of my favorite time of the year. I'm only truly happy from September 1 till December 25th about 9PM. I'm still watching Hockey I love hockey to much to not want to get as much as I can so I'm definetly still watching the Stanley Cup Finals in hopes that the Kings Win!! I'm also playing NHL 12 for PS3 in the Be A GM Mode. Once the season is completely over I will be anixously awaiting the NHL Awards Show, the NHL Draft, and the Opening of the Free Agent Market on July 1. In between those times than after July 1 right up until September 1 I'll be watching a bunch of old tapes that I've taped off the tv from past years hockey games. I've taped a bunch of Hockey games in the past and the beauty of it is that I seem to forget the results of alot of them so it's like watching it for the firs time. I've taped just little peices of games a to just highlights and entire games. I've taped some Pro Beach Hockey and some ECHL and AHL All-Star Games so I usually try to drown myself in old hockey until the new stuff comes along. I'm also considering going to the Detroit Red Wings Development Camp in July up in Traverse City ans well as going to the NHL Prospect Camp and Detroit Red Wings Training Camp in September as always. I'm always in my driveway in the summer shooting at my net plus I just got my very own Sled for Sled Hockey so I'll be spending a ton of time at the rink trying to get better and prepare for the coming Sled Hockey Season. Oh and I'm also always looking to help my coaches make the schedule for the up-coming season so I'm always trying to make contacts with as many Michigan teams as possible to maybe get a game or event scheduled for the up-coming season(s). I hate just about everything about summer so I really try to keep myself emersed in Hockey all year long.

I would love Mitchell on our D, I was asking for him last time he was UFA...although, if the Kings wrap it up, I have a feeling they will be keeping (if they can) as many players as they can to try to get back again in 2013... Yes...I would even say 1 scorer and role player and 2 D...solid backup. No need for a purchased Stanley Cup, then lose everyone in the off season (ahem...cough cough Chicago, cough cough) but 3-4 additions/changes that make it tougher to play against us and that scorer to play with Datsyuk...whether is be Parise or not, but someone who can put in upwards of 45 goals...

+1 for all the changes, I do like them! BUT... Whew! Helm at $2M? Abby at $1.5M? I am guessing that you are setting them high so that when they do re-sign for less it will be like a bonus? Abby made less than $800,000 last season do you really think he has earned almost DOUBLE his money? And Helm? He made less than $915,000 has he really earned MORE THAN double his money? It took Holmstrom almost 10 years to top $2M in salary, neither or these guys have brought what Holmstrom has brought to this team. I am not knocking them, and yes Helm is very valuable to this team, but I am not seeing over 2x his salary... More like: Helm $1.5M Abby $1.1M Quincey at anything over $3M is too expensive for the Wings. We already have a #5/#6 making over $3M, we do not need another. Holland needs to qualify him at $3.125M and then allow him to seek a raise elsewhere and collect the picks for him. The 1st and 3rd round picks are more valuable to Holland than Quincey is... Let Quincey go, maybe he signs on with a bottom 3rd team and then Holland can trade away our own 1st and 3rd next year for something that is going to push this team back over the top and then have a very high 1st and 3rd to replace the ones he traded...business is business and this makes the most sense, especially when he overpaid a 1st round pick for him to begin with, he not only gets another 1st back next year, but another 3rd to boot! Quincey for picks all day... edit: Even going with your $8M for Parise and Suter, I think it will look more like this. Plus this roster also works if the Cap doesn't quite stay at $70.3M... FORWARDS Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Zach Parise ($8.000m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Darren Helm ($1.500m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Travis Moen ($1.900m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.100m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($8.000m) Ian White ($2.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Justin Schultz ($1.000m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Josh Harding ($1.000m) SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $65,442,045; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $4,857,955* *enough for a nice deadline acquisition as well...(if the cap stays at $70.3M) also, I'd personally like to add Shane Doan, but with the $8M each for the Big Two, it would be kind of pushing the Cap with Doan considering he may cost $5M...

Seeing as you don't know anything about how HFboards prospect rankings work ill break it down for you: Each team has its own prospect reviewer, the reviewers for teams like Pittsburgh and St Louis have had some really liberal reviewers the last few seasons so their ranks are inflated compared to teams like Detroit who the last two years have had a guy who likes to be a lot more conservative on his projections. The people writing these projections tend not to be any more knowledgeable than your common HFboards posters, so I don't put much if any stock into the grades that they post. They do however write pretty good analysis of strengths and weaknesses.

As a group they are probably better than any other team's prospects The Red Wings had more players they drafted on their team than any other this year, they also had more players they drafted playing on other teams than any other team which is very impressive and they did it all by drafting low and trading away a lot of their picks. Amazing. Anybody criticizing the Red Wings prospects or drafting (and there a lot of you) is ridickulous. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1190840-nhl-power-rankings-how-wise-is-your-team-when-it-comes-to-the-nhl-draft

Since when were the Jets cash strapped? They had a $53,139,265 payroll last year with $11,160,735 available and with 15,300 seats that were full every night at the MTS centre, they grossed near the top of the league in revenue not to mention other sales. They've been back here in Winnipeg for 1 season, sold the most merch by far in the NHL this season and that's a confirmed fact and are currently in the process of contract talks and re-signing of players just like every other team in the league. Kane, Fehr, Mahachek, and Pavelec are RFA this summer. Slater, Glass, Wellwood, Stapleton, Jones, Flood and Mason are UFA. Currently, they have 14 players signed for $36,867,959 with $33,432,042 cap room with the cap set at $70,300,000. They need to resign Kane, Machacek, Slater, Wellwood, Stapleton, Flood, Pavelec and Mason. Grab a couple UFA from free agency in place of the others that need not be re-signed and they're good to go. Main points here: 1. Your posts have zero credibility cause you do no research and spew off the cuff bulls***. 2. The Jets are one of the best managed teams in the league with the entire city of Winnipeg behind them. 3. Players actually want to come to Winnipeg that aren't named Bryzgalov or Belanger cause of the excitement and the fanbase that makes the team feel at home. Kane will be signed for probably 5 years at about 4.5 per year by the Jets.

    Jagr staying in Philadelphia?

No young forward on our team is making considerably more than him. And his numbers have a lot to do with playing on Claude Giroux's wing. I do. Do the words grit, character and backcheck mean anything to you?
  16. 1 point
Jagr would have been great to have. I don't understand these "wouldn't want him anyway" comments

This is why he would be worth it to me. EDIT: Not that I would take him over Parise. I was thinking in addition to Parise.

    who will win the cup?

I picked Calgary, but I feel Carolina has the tools to do some damage, they've consistently been able to beat Ottawa, and that's not something many teams can say.

Of that list, definitely Oates. If not him, then I'd have to go with Shawn Burr. He was with the Wings for over a decade, a good scorer, great two-way player, and had a lot of heart. Plus he got the game winner against Toronto that year in the playoffs when the puck deflected off his chest and went into the net. At the time, that goal was like Stevie's slapshot against the Blues.

lol... bobby ryan is 25 and had 1 less point then franzen last year in his "s*** season" (57 points) with a 15.2 shooting percentage which is higher then johan has ever had. ryan s*** season point total ironically enough is actually 2 points less then franzens career year. if in ryan's s*** seasons he gets 2 less points then franzens career year... what incentive does anaheim have to swap a consistent 25 year old (4 years 30 goals is consistent) for an 32 year old who is consistently inconsistent? seems quite foolish from their perspective.

Evander Kane would be worth the compensation if he were to sign. He is already a 30 goal scorer and I doubt Winnipeg matches 6 mil.

    Jagr staying in Philadelphia?

54 points in 73 games. That's better than a few younger Red Wing roster players who are making considerably more than him. He would have been 5th in points on our team and only 15 points short of our leading scorer. That's actually kinda sad.

    Bertuzzi sues Crawford

Bert deserves it because of the ridickulous offer and of course because of the hit and I don't think there was any intent to injure to Naslund. The $350 000 offer was classless and ignorant, hope the Moore's get everything they're asking for

Why Evander Kane is Worth the Price

You are the one who seems very confused. Last year the Jets were supported by the league to stay viable. See the story linked above were their owner "shocked" everyone by telling them they may no longer need the help. yes the cap may be high, but that does not mean they have the ability to pay that much, and in fact through this past season they did not. Thus the payments from the league. In there first year, they did great. But that was because they were the hot new thing. The question that no one knows the answer to is: will it last. I would bet no. Win. is just to small of a market to keep them going. That is why the jets-now yotes moved in the first place. Now you can spew whatever you want about me untill your fingers hurt. i really couldn't care less. But at least try to have any proof or evidence in anything you say when you do it. Which to date you do not. have a good day. Here is the link, Bombshell was the word used..... http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Jets-will-not-need-NHLs-revenue-sharing--146445605.html

    My Trade Proposal

Some combination of Franzen/Filppula/Nyquist/Smith/1st rounder for Perry. EDIT: I see I've been negged several times. To be clear: I'm not saying we should trade all of the above for Perry. I was saying, e.g., Filppula + Nyquist + a 1st.
