I think nyquist could easily be hudlers replacement if they give him the amount of ice time and responsibility huds had.

That has to to be the dumbest thing I've heard on this board in a long time. Why? Holland could announce tomorrow he and Hudler have decided to sign him to a 3 year 9 million dollar contract. Meaning they have locked him up at a reasonable rate for a guy who can give you 20+ goals and 50+ points a season.

Ya well, I like NJ too, I just like Michigan a lot better! Anyhow on today's 97.1 The Ticket show with Mike and Terry they were asking wold it be wise for Detroit to trade for Parise's rights. I found it weird because they NEVER talk about hockey unless it is something substantial or if they had heard something. I am not playing "centcougar" here and saying it's in stone that they are trading for him just because a reporter says they might. They made a great point when talking about Parise/Suter...They mentioned the fact that they would like to play together (probably heard the same stuff we hear) and that Detroit would be smart to Trade for Parise's rights and put themselves in a better position to sign Suter on July 1st if they already have Parise sewn up. They were also asking the listeners what would be a good deal to acquire him...IMO I would say if Holland is going to take this route he is gonna have to outbid a few others and he should offer a very high pick along with a prospect... I would say offer a 3rd AND Tatar. That is pretty steep for "rights" but the Wings need to make this splash and it would give them an inside line on Suter as well. I would even up the ante a bit if NJ asked. It is very imperative that Parise becomes a Red Wing and giving us a few weeks of uninterrupted talks should guarantee a contract for at least 5 years if not 8-10. They also mentioned an that the Wings could offer Parise the "C" as an incentive to sign here. What about Z, you are gonna say, but they had a point, if Zetterberg was to be the next captain hands down, no questions, he'd already be named the captain by now. If Z is the man, whats the hold up? Maybe if Parise or Suter come here, one of those will be it.

I'd be surprised if Kenny and the rest of the Wings brass has given even one thought towards trying to acquire Stewart. That's not to say that they wouldn't love having a gritty, scoring forward on the roster. It's simply a cost/benefit issue. Because either way you slice it, they'd have to give up something in return to get him here (be it draft picks for an RFA Offer Sheet, or picks/prospects/players for a trade). Whereas Parise can be brought here for nothing more than his annual salary, or maybe a mid-to-late draft pick if we trade for his rights. Plus, as others have mentioned, there's very little chance that he would get traded to an in-division rival. If the Blues are going to trade him, it makes much more sense for them to trade him outside the division/conference. That way, they get better through the trade, while the rest of the division remains unchanged, as opposed to both teams in the division getting better. You sure it's not because of this? Not me. See above.

St. Louis is a respectable and competitive team again, why wouldn't they do what they can to retain Stewart? He was a recent addition to their team which has become a success, I don't see them messing with that.

I second that. I cannot stand him, never have and never will. Just one of those players that piss you off lol. But like you said, never want to see a player go out in that fashion regardless of who it is.

What I like about this is he said "no way" to the Rangers. Not just that they're outta the race for him, but it shows that he's not just gonna go to whoever throws the most money at him. He's considering where he wants to play too. I think Detroit can make a very strong pitch to him.

Him being open to coming back doesn't change the dire financial situation in NJ.

He simply states he likes the team, the players, the organization, etc. Like people have been saying on these boards for years; You think that he's going to say The Devils blow I want out, this team is a piece of s*** and I can't wait for July 1st. No, he wouldn't. A lot of it comes to financials too which the Devils are lacking. I still think he leaves New Jersey. Of course I want him here in Detroit but if he signs in Minnesota then all I can say is wow, so much for your cup contender mentality.

Well, that history has to go somewhere, and since the totality of the franchise is what's changing hands/locations, it makes more sense to leave it intact. Naturally, you have to specify when talking about the older team's accomplishments, but it would diminish the value of the franchise overall if the history was stripped away.

Please comment on the topic at hand and not only about the validity or lack thereof of the thread. If you don't have an opinion about someone else being interested in Parise as well, please move along.

Never liked him. Though I hate to see a guy go out being injured

She must like basketball more. Otherwise they'd be flat like a puck. We should trade for her rights. Hudler would re-sign for league minimum. We'd get a guy who put up 50 points last season really cheap, and he'd save money on boobies. Win-win.

I think they'll be contenders for years to come but if you were to do this years playoffs over again, I'm not sure they could duplicate this incredible run.

Let's not be hockey snobs, folks. This was an amazing run and gathered a lot of attention in what is potentially one of the biggest markets. The fans rallied and many will probably stick around. It's a great thing for the game. Plus, there is nothing Chris Prongerish about this team. They played their hearts out and earned it, so I have no problem with the cup going to southern California for a year.

Aside from his infidelity off the ice, he has always been a gracious and nice guy. Not like Roy who liked to talk s*** all the time. I just haven't liked the Devils organization very much. Partially because I was a new hockey fan back in 95 when the Devils swept the Wings.

Hudler is worth a contract for a reasonable amount. I was thinking 3 million per season for 3 seasons would be perfectly acceptable. That being said, he can probably fetch $4 million per season and get a 3 year deal somewhere. If he can get that much, and he wants that much, then go for it. The Wings expect most players to take a discount when they play here. Its part of the reason why we have made the playoffs for 20+ years. Personally, I don't know what the issue is here. If I was a pro hockey player, and I was offered $4 million to play somewhere, but I could get paid $3 million a season and a chance to compete for a championship, I would take less money.

well yea.. when you haven't been to the playoffs since 2004, the winter classic is about as close to a playoff game feel as their ever going to get :rotflmao:

I am not that high on him. It would depend on how cheap. I would think of him to be a number four dman, and I think we can fill that and should focus on a top paring or two...

the only way the Wings take MARKOV off then HABS hands is if Alexei Emelin is part of the deal.
