He almost won the Hottest Red Wing Poll of '08. He led up until the last minute whereupon Lilja made a last-minute point grab. But he got 2nd, which is respectable considering that he beat Hank, Lids, and Kronner. He also gave us some fine photoshop moments and unforgettable sound bites. He was a man amongst boys in front of the net. He gave his body for the team, bearing more abuse than a hunter at a PETA convention. I would like to have him stay on and work for the team doing interviews with the guys for some sort of internet television thing. -

Swiss League Topscorer Damien Brunner

He holds the well-respected position of being the team's "Flamer," a position only recognized in Swiss hockey that is similar to that of "distracter" in beer pong. Although the Flamer is not allowed to show his breasts. True story. -

Illitch announces plan to build new arena
F.Michael reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
ya, just like the Old School charm of Tiger Stadium he built into Comerica....It will be nothing but a cookie cutter arena based on the new Pittsburgh and Columbus arena's...and it will be named something by the highest bidder regardless of where the HQ is for that bidder...ie Comerica Park HQ'd in Texas. I would love to see an Olympia style arena and I am sticking by my name of Cadillac Centre. (Not only for GM ties but mostly for Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac...founder of Detroit.) One of you guys LONG ago made up a "Olympia" type rendition of a new arena, you shold repost it in this thread. -

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie NHL-NHLPA meeting over for the night. Meetings to resume early in the morning. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie Steve Fehr: "constructive day, best day we've had but still work to be done." Nick Cotsonika @cotsonika Good signs: Daly, Steve Fehr stand side by side, say progress is being made, stay tight-lipped about details, say talks will continue. -

i can see the headlines now: "crosby and the pens save the nhl season" both owners and gm's have been barred from talking to players during this lockout. maybe bettman gave them the okay though -
1 pointI don't think anyone will replace the datsyuk-zetterberg euro-twins combo in their prime. but I hope to God brunner/z's production translates well to the NHL.

for me, the view of the ice is by far the most important thing to me. the other stuff i can deal with. but then again i don't think i am the typical fan when it comes to going to sporting events. first off, i am smaller than the average person so the cramping of the seats isn't really a big deal for me. i usually don't buy food or beverage at the arena and i can usually hold off on the bathroom until after i leave the arena. when the game is over, i get the hell of out of detroit as fast as i can lol -

agreed. it's going to be so weird seeing the wings playing in an arena other than the joe i just hope they can maintain the good sight lines that the joe has. i honesty don't care about all the new bells and whistles of a new arena. i just want to be able to get a good view of the game -

Sort of like when Gretzky retired & the NHL painted 99 behind the goals, when Homer finally hangs them up the Wings should at least play a game with 96 painted in front of the crease to honor him. -

New fan.. need advice

This is a bad bad time to be a new hockey fan. It's borderline embarrassing how much of a circus this year has been so far. Honestly, to the OP, I would go to best buy, or moviestop, or whatever well stocked dvd retail store there is around you and purchase the Red Wings box set. In my opinion, it includes the essentials of what a Red Wings fan should see, know, and remember. The battles between them and Colorado, the cup wins, and the most intense moments of Red Wings playoff history. Buy it, watch it, all of it, yes it's 5 cds two-sided but do it anyway, learn from it, love it. I went back and watched a few of those games again, remembered the knot in my stomach before a Wings/Avs regular season game and how much was on the line, and the intensity, and the passion. Don't be discouraged by the events going on currently in the NHL. It's worth the wait in the long run. -
1 pointI don't live in the Detroit area, but I have been donating my time to the Griffins Youth Foundation and reffing more youth hockey. My time is just as valuable as money, and as a referee, I can give a Saturday afternoon to ref for free for the Youth Foundation. I am also doing a fundraiser that should bring in $5000 to the Youth Foundation as well this weekend. It has been planned for about a month now. I am tipping a bit more too. I figure an extra little bit to people for what I am not spending on the NHL is fair. Besides, by now I would have attended about 3-4 games anyway.
-
1 pointActually have a bit extra this month myself. Not much, but hey, why not? Besides, they will be wanting to do their Christmas shopping soon.
