    Larry Murphy Fired by FSD

Mickey and Larry are colour guys. That's what they do. They add some colour to the show. If that means stories, then it's stories. If it means background, then it's background. I love the stories. I'd rather watch a game with my uncle who used to play than a guy who just watches a lot and knows the rules. That's what Mickey and Larry bring to the table: It's like watching a game with a friend.

NHL comes back stronger than ever

I just cannot stomach droping $400 on two tickets in prime seating (plus travel time, hotel, gas, food, etc) to see the Winter Classic. The lockout left a very bad taste in my mouth. I know that may people will be buying the tickets and it will sell out. but thats not the point. I have been to the first outdoor college hockey Cold War and then the second Cold War at Michigan last year. I enjoyed both of those games, and I am all about supporting college hockey because they didn't crap on their fanbase. The NHL and NHLPA crapped all over the fanbase over the summer with rhetoric and finger pointing. Both sides played the PR card hard, and as a result, turned me off as a fan. I love hockey. I watch hockey on TV. I won't invest a dime in the NHL until I am over this bad taste in my mouth. It may take a year or two, but I will be there. I will take the $500+ that I save and have a big party at my place with friends in front of my 52 inch HDTV and enjoy the game just as much.

First, I was responding to the poster (I quoted) who claimed it was embarrassing to make the playoffs and lose early. If you're offended by the term, take it up with him. Second, I have confidence in the organization. The Wings don't need top 5 picks to find future stars or diamonds in the rough. They've proven this time and again for years. Third, I just cannot support rooting against one's team. The players want to win. The ownership wants to win (and deserves the extra revenue from playoff games). The folks who work at the stadium want to win. *I* want them to win. Fourth, I think the playoff streak is a bigger deal than many give it credit for. It would be sweet if the Wings could beat the Bruins record.

    Thinking on 2013/14 roster.

We let Brunner walk? I hope not.

Suter and Parise were always going to play together in Minnesota. Parise wanted to go home, and Suter wanted to go with Parise. There's nothing Holland could've done about that. He can't force Parise and Suter to want to play in Detroit all of a sudden. They became joined at the hip and hitched their wagon to the Wild, for better or worse. That being said, the team failed to acquire anything of substance after they knew they wouldn't be getting Suter and Parise. It was a domino effect. All the "plan-B" players were already gone by the time Detroit knew they lost out on both players. Brunner has been a nice surprise, and Tootoo has been doing his job admirably. The rest of Holland's band-aid box...not so much.

Pretty much guarantees Bettman will lock us all out again when the CBA expires, to get what he wants from the players then.

Better hold on to that one. That's a pretty rare find.

This is why they can have a lockout again in seven years. I'm at fault too, but hockey fans are overly loyal.

    Larry Murphy Fired by FSD

My friends and I know somebody who works for FSN. Whenever we see this guy, he is always telling stuff about what goes on inside there. Anyway, we saw him recently and we asked him about the Murhpy thing. Basically he said nobody there knows why he got fired, and that everybody there was pretty mad about. Not groundbreaking info, but I think it kind of supports what a lot people are saying on how this might be personal or something. Anyway, thought I'd share the info.

This pretty much sums up my view. I'm not upset the team isn't dominating anymore and needs a rebuild. I'm just confused as to exactly what the rebuild plan is. As has been mentioned before, it's not like going into the season Holland was planning let the kids play and develop, even if it made for a mediocre season. Holland signed guys like Cola and Sammy headed into this season to plug holes. Most of the kids got ice time because of injuries, not strategy. Even at this trade deadline, he talks about the Wings being in a rebuild phase, while also mentioning going after Jagr. So the Wings are clearly trying to rebuild but he pursued an aging playoff rental?

This is true, but the guys responsible for that production have moved on, retired, or are declining in production. We haven't developed a quality winger since Franzen. Haven't developed a top defenseman since Kronwall. Four of our current top sixers are centers, two of whom are playing out of position and were never scorers to begin with. We don't have the right people for the job, simple as that. Want a scoring winger? Draft and develop one, or trade for one. Don't try to make Flip or Abby something they aren't. It takes world class talent to be able to switch around like that. Hell even Ovechkin had a serious slump when he moved from left to right wing...and that's ******* Ovechkin (who scored twice more last night, officially proving everyone who said "he's been figured out", completely wrong). You can't just move these guys around willy nilly and expect a miracle. Well you can, but we've seen how that turns out.

    4/7 GDT : Blues 1 at Red Wings 0

I don't recall saying a thing about any other era. I'm just realistic enough to know that no team wins it or has a chance to win it every single year. To expect that there aren't going to be some transition periods or some years that are less successful than others isn't logical. For a team in transition like the Wings, I would consider a WCF to be a successful season, not a complete and utter failure.

Such a tough loss. If only Nyquist buried that breakaway....It's going to be a tough fight to get into the playoffs, but getting in is just to maintain the playoff streak. It's highly unlikely they will make it out of the first round.

    Holland retirement watch?

Kindl has been in many ways our best Dman all year. he has played well. Kronwall has played better offensively, but worse defensively. Ericsson better defensively, but not as good offensively. Those have been our top 3 all year. Smith has made a bunch oif mistakes, but you expect that from a rookie. lashoff has been very good defensively, but is not a threat with the puck. I am looking forward to dekeyser a lot.

There was one shift, it was recent, against the Avs. I think. If memory serves, we were bumbling around in our own zone. General stupidity and laziness and a touch of sheer incompetence. But then, Glory Be to God, Nyquist got ahold of the puck and, all of three seconds later, he was tearing into the o-zone like some kind of human missile thing. I don't remember what happened after that, but I'll tell you what, I'm generally very cynical, pessimistic about this team, and so it takes a lot for me to go, "Wow." And I went "Wow." It made me realize how slow of foot - and teeth-gnashingly namby pamby - we generally are. It was refreshing. It was pretty awesome.

Rooting for one's team to lose says more about the fan than the team.

I'm Canadian, and I find this message offensive towards true Canadians... you know the ones that sit in their garage drinking and not caring what game they are watching or who is commentating, as long as it's hockey

not to mention, they are red wings commentators, not nbc, or cbc, or sportsnet, they are red wings commentators. So when I am complaining about a penalty, it's nice to hear our bcommentators complain too, not say, well it is the refs discretion
