    The Hudler Factor

I miss Filpulla a bit. Hudler? Not at all. Although he was good for a laugh.

    The Hudler Factor

Hudler would only be one more thing to complain about. Don't miss him at all. The Flames can have him. It must be pathetic to be a Flames fan, when Hudler is one of the things you puff your chest out about.

Gordon Bombay no questions asked. He just has a way at helping players maximize their potential...

I absolutely disagree with this statement. I'm an attorney and know quite a few attorney's who have left bigger, more prestigious firms to go to smaller firms or even to go into solo practice. They generally make less than half the money they did and almost all of them think it was a wonderful career move. There is motivation behind career choices that goes well beyond just the biggest/most prestigious/best firms and salary. There are time issues, pressure issues, expectation issues, area of practice issues and many others. Tim may like less pressure, he may like Florida better than Massachusetts, who knows what else but all of those can factor into his career choices. Additionally, you keep saying: While technically this might be true, it is at best misleading. His last full NHL season he made $5M this year his salary is $2.5M but he has $1.25M in bonuses, which are easier bonuses everyone seems to think he will easily meet (similar to the little doubt DeKeyser would reach his bonuses). With his bonuses he would be getting 75% of what he made his last full NHL season. Additionally, the 2012-2013 season that he sat out he was supposed to make $3M. Tim should be making $750k (20%) MORE than that this year. Also, you cannot over look the huge tax saving he is getting being in an income tax free state as opposed to a state that taxes income at 5.3%. He may really like where his career is, he is making a lot of money, playing with very little pressure, warm climate. He may have made a perfect career choice for himself.

If I have to choose someone, Jeff Blashill. He's like Mike Babcock's hipper, younger brother. Same sensibilities, exact same voice, teaches the same basic systems in Grand Rapids, is obviously familiar with the youth.

If Babs ever does get replaced or decides to leave, I believe it will be Jeff Blashill who would replace him.

    The Hudler Factor

Tatar is a better version of what Hudler is, and Tatar tries harder too. Now, would I rather have Hudler than, say, Cleary? Or Bert? Yes. But if Hudler was here it would just mean one of Tatar or Nyquist wouldn't be on the team.

Some have mentioned the amount of cap space we have this off season. yes that is true. But what good is it? None in UFA-there are only a couple of UFA's worth anything and the chances they all come here is slim. In other words, plenty of cash and no place to spend it. baring trades. Which we seem unable to do lately.

Am I missing something? (re: Tootoo)

My point is, very few players in this league do it all.. Score, defend, forecheck, kill penalties and provide spark (fight/big hits) so that being the case they should have a couple guys that do a few of the things and come together as a team.

With us being up against the cap and seemingly weak in every position I don't see how we could possibly make a move that makes us better at the deadline. I think it's finally time to start a real rebuild. Everybody but Zetterberg is on the table

    Franzen Placed on IR

That's really too bad. It's tough to have to miss games for the team, but you know you'll get to play when you get better. The Olympics only happen once every four years. I feel bad for him.

    NHL may rethink Sochi

Honestly, I think that you have to be in their shoes to make the decision. How many of you would bungee jump? Work graveyards in a convenience store alone? Go camping in Yellowstone? No way would I bungee jump (don't like heights) or camp where there may be bears and/or snakes. OTOH, I've worked graves in a c-store for years. Every time one gets robbed, people come in and ask me if I'm afraid. I don't understand what there is to worry about. If it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen, and the odds are pretty slim. Of course, you could say the same about bungee jumping, camping with bears, dancing with wolves, flying in an airplane, driving a car, or playing hockey in Russia, but each of us has the place where we draw the line. We have our own risk/reward ratio. If I was chosen as an Olympian, I'd be on the plane, but that's just me. I can understand and respect the decisions of those who think that the risk is too great, but I'd go. Unless I was on a plane with a bungee jumping bear. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

    The Hudler Factor

No, I don't miss him. He wasn't a good fit here, and was often a detriment to the team due to his small size and getting constantly knocked off the puck by everyone else on the ice. But hey, Sammy and Quincey were OK here and then left and we brought them back only for them to suck. Maybe it'll be the opposite with Hudler.

    NHL may rethink Sochi

I dunno that it shows they're trembling with fear, just, well..."Honey? You and the kids might die. So you should probably stay home." From a you-don't-want-your-family-to-die perspective, it's a no-brainer. And, less nobly, you'd rather not have concerns about your family's safety in the back (or front) of your mind while competing for Olympic Gold. And, honestly, families can be kind of annoying.

Tatar is one of the young guys I wouldn't want to trade. I would keep him over Nyquist, though I like both players.

We should add a player like Tootoo to the 4th line. esteef
