People are seriously rage quitting this team over a deadline deal involving a prospect that may bolt to Sweden and a jobber that requested a trade in order to get some playing time under his belt so he can get a contract next year? Are these the same people that threatened to rage quit the team if Kenny *didn't* make a trade this year? Not to be a *****, but I totally get why fans of other teams hate red wings fans. Some of the posts I've read today compared with posts leading up to the deadline are ridiculous. Do I think Kenny overpaid? Probably, but I'm under NO illusions that I could possibly know how to do his job better than he does. Forgive me for whining about whining, but DAMN.

Let's have a look at the positives of this trade though: 1. Legwand has 40 points in 60 games under Barry Trotz's Nashville system 2. Legwand waived his NTC to come here, has a place here, so chances are he re-signs here (hopefully for a good cap hit) 3. Our centre depth is ridiculous, and will be for at least another 4-5 years (D,Z, Legwand, Weiss, Helm, Sheahan, Andy, Glendening) which made Jarnkrok expendable (Babcock would have none of that attitude) 4. Legwand has managed to stay relatively healthy most of his career, whereas our other centres are made of glass right now 5. He's got great speed and is a decent 2 way centre (you can't play in Nashville if you're not a 2 way player) All in all, Legwand makes our team look much, much better. He gives us a chance at the playoffs, especially since Datsyuk is now out for three weeks and Helm is out. Andersson as our 1C for one game is one game too many. On another note, I absolutely love Sheahan and his line. Their shifts are easily our most exciting shifts each game.

Eaves-no big deal conditional pick, 2nd or 3rd- not a big deal Jarkrok-guy who may never play in the NHL if he really wants to go back home. Not a big deal. Legwand was the best center moved. Detroit got him.

No I think it's just you, nyquististhefuture and to a lesser extent pucktividi. This whole thread has just turned into one huge rant for you guys.

One trade means we're selling the farm now lol. This trade only made because we were desperate for a center. That's it.

Holland is being hated on because he wasn't able to steal a player away from another team. It's all Holland's fault that there aren't enough GMs as bad as Garth Snow. Shame on him.

Wings were in on Kessler. Vancouver didn't trade him. They needed to make a trade for a center or pack it in. Ownership mandates the Wings push for the playoffs, Holland made the move he had to make.

As far as making the playoffs, it's not just a record thing, it's a business thing. The players make no more money in the playoffs, yet the owners do. Even if they got swept in the first round, two home games is 2+ million dollars for the organization.

This trade gives the team a shot at staying in the hunt until we get players back. If Weiss and helm return sooner rather than later, at least we can ice a good enough roster to win some games while dats is out. If dats can play in three weeks we have a solid forward group to finish off the season and hopefully go into the playoffs with. Sure on paper we probably overpaid. But hey, I'm sure management knows something that we don't. I'm thankful that they didn't give up on the season and didn't sell the farm to do so. Its a bummer we didn't get a top four dman, but this defense got the job done in the home stretch last year and I have faith they can do it again with a little luck with the injured players. We got a center who can contribute on both ends of the ice. It gets a fourth line center off of our top line. Its also a player who wants to be here, and has shown in the past he can be clutch when called upon. Here is to hoping a lot of crow is eaten by seasons end!

Ok, I'm reading all of this trade bashing. Can someone tell me exactly what Jarnkrok has done on the NHL level that makes this so outraging? He's 3rd on the Griffs in points. Yes, he shows some promise...it get it. I get the "young talent", "ton of potential" thing...but has anyone looked at our current roster?? We are extremely heavy on really young guys. Our brass has said (and done well with for the most part) the theory on experienced players and their being counted on to perform in the playoffs. We knew if we wanted to get any player today, we would have to give up a piece of our young talent. So....am I outraged that we lost Calle Jarnkrock in a trade today...not really....in fact, I think looking at all of our young talent losing a soft Euro with the proverbial "great hands", who has hinted that he wants to go home to Sweden and play, is actually a decent price to play for a veteran like Legwand.

Nyquist is holding a good pace with 2008 Mule for points and Tatar is a top young talent that keeps getting better and is at .5 points per game in his 1st NHL season getting sparing minutes. I wouldn't give up either of them at this point for anything less than a package deal to get a 1-2 Dman.

More of a roster clearing move than anything I'd say. I'm glad Eaves will get some ice time now. The guy deserves it.

So not making the playoffs is better than making it and having a fighting chance? I don't understand how people can call themselves a fan with this logic. But.... but... but higher draft pick! I'm glad the management has more pride than some if its own fans. Legwand helps this team compete while everyone heals up. When we get bodies back, we'll be better with Legwand than without. Why not just see how things pan out before ripping on Holland for making the deal? We got a good player that wants to be here. Lets just see what he can do.

Are we talking about the same management that is pretty shocked how good are Tatar-Sheahan-Jurčo

Again if mediocrity is okay with you, fine. For me I look at this team and ask two questions: Can this team seriously compete for a Stanley Cup? If yes great. If not then I ask: Has the team increased it's ability to compete for one in the future. This trade doesn't make this team a serious cup contender, and it has hurt the team long term.

I prefer.... Z-datsyuk- alfy/helm Mule-Legwand-nyquist Abby-Weiss-alfy/helm Kid line Could be insane depth, and has the ability to mix and mash all throughout the lineup

It isn't that special to YOU, maybe, but it is special to sports and to people who can objectively appreciate the historic nature of the record. No team in professional sports has made the playoffs for THREE DECADES straight. It's nigh impossible. Yet the Wings are closing in. I hope they break it.

He also said that when Datsyuk was day to day and Helm was not injured. If Weiss cannot allow us to play D and Z together, Legwand will while providing us with good defense and offense.

Jarnkrok wasn't making Detroit next year. Sheahan has passed him up obviously and Jarnkrok isn't a 4th line guy. Not his game. So what if he plays for Nashville? He wasn't going to play for us. If he makes Nashville's club good for him, they are in a different conference. No harm.
