Hockey withdrawal symptoms have reached a point of catastrophy. To alleviate these symptoms I'm watching the entire 97 cup run and will spend most of September watching the 98 run also. This got me thinking. If you could name one Wings game that you saw that was in your opinion the greatest game you've ever seen, what would it be? For me it's game 6 2002 WCF vs the Avalanche because it just demonstrated just how dominant Hasek really was and Roy's gaffe was such a beautiful moment. Even better that it virtually cost the Avs another shot at the cup. I just remember being so elated with joy after seeing us stick it to Colorado. That series and that rivalry had so much passion and intensity and I can still hear Gary Thorne's voice as Shanny put the puck past a showboating Roy. What about anyone else?

March 26th jumps to the fore, it's a historic marker which I think elevates it above the others. That being said the 7-0 game vs Colorado is close as is the 2-1 win to sweep the Flyers. The greatest one I ever saw live (and I've seen hat tricks by LaPointe and Fedorov) was waaaaaaaay back on February 23, 1989. I had to do some research to find this game and confirm all my claims lol. Some buddies and I left work to go get SRO tickets as the mighty Mario Penguins were in town. The building started out ugly as the Wings fell behind 6-0. SIX TO NOTHING. By the end of the night the fans were jumping on one another and hugging and it was one of the loudest nights I've ever heard JLA, the Wings stormed back to TIE the game at 6-6 where the game ended. Way too much fun, waaaay too many beers.

Aw man I can't wait until they do one of those for Hampus Melen. Then we can have a Hampus Melen thread, and I can get a Hampus Melen jersey to wear to games at Hampus Melen Arena in honor of our new captain Hampus Melen. The future sounds amazing! That game was incredible. Try as I might to come up with something more original, it has to be June 7th, 1997 for me. Nothing has come close to matching the feeling and emotions of that game and the celebration after. But we got there largely because of games like March 26th, 1997, too, so...that whole season was just special. From the game in which Shanahan debuted, after rushing to Detroit after the trade was completed earlier in the afternoon, through to June 7th, it was just a magical season.

taking nothing away from Nick and Homer, which are by far the best Swedes we have had. Z is up there as well, but this team accomplished far more with Russians than the recent influx of Swedes. I am not sure why they started shying away from Russians compared to before...did the talent pool dry up?

Live....for me it was Game 5 of the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals. Even though it was taken away with a minute left, I have NEVER felt what I felt in the building when the wings were 1 min away from winning the cup. Then to be on the edge of your seat through 3 OT's, with the Wings being 1 goal away.....simply amazing! Ending sucked, but the intensity was awesome! Still pisses me off that in OT Pittsburgh didn't get a penalty when the puck went over the boards, hit the netting, came back in,and they played like nothing happened!

I don't think so their owner is loaded with money and is their version of our own Mr. I. Their rebuild is exactly how should be done create a new core and add to it through the draft. Mark my words Buffal is going to be a damn scary game in a few years.

How is holland trying to win? Not letting Tatar and nyquist get their chance when they deserve it? Continues to bring back ok broken down players who provide little to nothing. I personally dot have a problem with rebuilding or go balls in to win. But holland is just sitting on the fence doing a little of both and thats what bothers me most.

I think it's a great idea and obviously fans of these teams do to. They deserve to get to experience it as well.

So everyone ******* and moans about how our team has too many injury prone players and too many dud players like Quincey, Cleary etc, but we want a guy with serious injury problems who the Rangers fans came to recognize as a dud for his terrible defense, and who after being traded for by Nashville was shown the door?

Feel free to think what you want, I'm not here to convince you. I'm just here to say that fans expectations aren't "unrealistic" because the organization purportedly has the same expectations. I'm sick of this whole "Red Wings fans are spoiled with success" argument. You're supposed to want your team to compete for the championship every year. You're also supposed to be bent out of shape when you don't think your team IS competitive. That's what being a fan is all about. Not sitting around casually observing the team and then clapping at the end of the game. Ho hum.

Hmm I guess my predictions will be: Smith still has a few brain-farts, but he becomes a LGW favorite this season. Babs gives him an opportunity on the power play, and he doesn't give it up. Cleary plays 10 games and is benched for the rest of the season. He then finally calls it a career. Weiss plays 50-60 games, looks much better than he did last year, but still not as good as he could be (and LGW expects). He becomes the new whipping boy. Howard has top 10 stats, half of LGW still argues that he's average. Gustavsson is often injured, and when he plays he is out of position, loses sight of the puck, fumbles the puck in the crease, and will somehow still win us games. Mrazek will play 10-15 games for the Wings this season, and look good in every game. Wings will go on a 3 game losing streak, LGW will implode. Wings will go on a 3 game winning streak, LGW will believe this team is as good as the 2002 team.

It doesn't matter how positive people want to be about particular situations, there are always going to be 'the glass, completely empty' kind of people in the world. As a Red Wings fan, why would you choose to be so negative about the upcoming season? It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever... Why can't all the negative Nancy's and Debbie downers stay out of just one of the very few positive threads that we try to have on here? Nah, it's much more fun to predict that Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Weiss and Helm combine for under 30 games and we finish last in the Conference...

I'm hoping this positive experience with Marchenko will warm the Wings to taking more Russian born players. I think we have passed on some real talent in the past due to the russian factor.
