No. We need go get rid of that contract now. The guy has a poor span of about 3 months every season. He's done in Detroit. Mrazek is our guy and everyone knows it. If he wasn't so sick this past week he'd be starting tomorrow night. Petr will take over Thursday for pretty well the end of the year. We need to dumb Howard's salary to create cap room for going after stammer. It's possible to get him and the only way to even try is to have cap space.

Nothing against the kid, but that thought scares me. I look at Montreal and what has happened with the Price injury and would hate to see what would happen if we traded Howard, then Mrazek went out for the season. If we get rid of Howard, I feel we need a legit backup (ie. Reimer, Hillier etc.).

I say we should acquire Stamkos..... seriously, I think if they can get 7 more wins or any combination of 14-16 points they should make it. It's all a crap shoot though, even if they get 7-8 more wins and so does everyone else, it's going to be rough! Although, right now, if everyone got 14 more points, we'd still be in. I would love to see them rattle off 5 wins in a row and take some pressure off.

I personally don't think the potential for Marchenko is there. I think right now Smith is a better player than Marchenko will ever be. But who knows for sure.

You can't seriously still be advocating getting rid of Datsyuk are you? He is still the best player on the team at the age of 37 and leads the team in points per game virtually every season. He certainly won't decline that much in the next couple seasons that he won't be more than capable of filling the 3rd line center spot... When you're talking about veteran presence, and players that the kids can learn from, there aren't two better players than Pav and Hank. I want them around as long as possible for Larkin, Mantha and company to soak up as much as they can, while they can... Regardless, if Datsyuk does want to sign a new contract (I think he will), he absolutely should.

Really? By your own admission then Anze Kopitar and Patrice Bergeron are better than Toews and better than Stamkos Both Kopitar and Bergeron have MORE points than Stamkos and Toews. And extremely good defensively (look at the selke candidates) So the second best player must be either Kopitar and Bergeron. Not Stamkos. Nor Toews. Which goes back to the original point.. Is Stamkos really worth $10? Will Holland even think he's worth throwing that much towards? Because Kopitar just signed an extension worth $10 per year and is better than Stamkos (by your logic).

Marchenko's had a real rough go as of late, and the underlying numbers support that. I was actually thinking that Quincey's looked rough lately as well, and the numbers also support that. Either way, Smith drives possession - I'd keep him in. Go numbers.

Stamkos has missed the playoffs 4 times, and swept in the first round once. The two decent runs TB has had he was 5th and tied for 3rd in team scoring. He's a good player, and worth pursuing, but not to the point of giving up anything ridiculous for him. He had a good year last year, but 4 of the last 5 years were down fairly significantly from where he was in his prime. Combined with the increase in injuries, it's a major difference.

To be honest Stamkos actually has significantly declined this year. His point total last year was 72 (already much lower than his previous years bests) and is 58 this year with only 10 games left. He scored 43 goals last year and is at 33 this year. His puck possession has dropped aka his corsi/fenwick. So not only has he fallen off offensively but also in terms of his possession (which people like Buppy and Kipwinger consider a big part of defense). Grit, faceoff, Takeaway/Giveaway ratio, shot blocking is all still similar to last year
