If Hanzal gets a 1st and a 2nd, there is absolutely nothing unreasonable about a 1st for Vanek.

Now if he can pull a first rounder for Vanek, I think we can all be pretty pleased with Holland's first go around as a seller at the deadline.

He's just talking about all those (dickiedunn, frankgrimes etc) who called Holland an idiot because it was reported he had delayed talks on trading Smith because they were discussing a possible deal. Frank, for instance, said that they would miss out on the opportunity for a deal and teams would go elsewhere

Stupid Holland, not taking the first deal that was presented to him, waiting for a much better deal to come along... F***ing love Smitty, but that is a great return. Still hope we can somehow ship out Ericsson and re-sign him in the offseason, but if not, good luck!

When it comes to any draft, I rather load up on picks if you are going to do the reload. This team has many holes and needs to build through the draft. Make the trades and load up on picks, for the 2017 and 2018 drafts. From what I have read the 2017 is not as deep, so that's why I say get some picks for the 2018 draft.

Another example of a silly fan jizz-fest over a young guy whose greatest virtue is that he hasn't been around long enough for fans to turn on him. Ericsson, Helm, Abby, Leino, Smith, Nyquist, Tatar...remember when it was such a crime when those kids were left in the minors? Now they're the s***ty vets we wish we could get rid of. People turning on Mrazek, Dekeyser, and even Larkin now. The next thing is always the better thing. Hell, last year people were already about to give up on the current kids in favor of Russo/Hicketts. I'm sure within a year or two we'll be back to gazing longingly at the horizon waiting for the next wave. Fact is the Wings do a great job of drafting and developing players, and putting young kids in situations to be successful. Maybe too good. Even without tanking for high picks, or selling for a high number of picks, we've produced more talent than we've had room for. Many have done so well starting out that it created unrealistic expectations for what they'd become, and/or made people believe that since they were successful they would have been equally so at any time, as if development doesn't matter at all. (Except for Jurco, who was obviously brought up too soon since he wasn't as successful, but if he had been it would have meant he was brought up too late...) Maybe not perfect; but no one is, has been, or ever will be. Sad that we can't appreciate what the organization does well because we're so consumed with how things might have hypothetically been done better.

Spoke to some LA fans who enlightened me a bit on the state of their team. I guess when Quick went down and Budaj came in the team completely changed their systems. That is they locked it down defensively, sacrificing a lot of offense. From what i understand Quick is very good at playing the puck outside the net and stopping breakaways. This insurance allows their D men to join the rush and overall make more aggressive offensive plays. Budaj rarely plays the puck outside the net and is not the breakaway stopper Quick is. So the team buttoned down the hatches and reverted to a defensive grinding style. This is why Budaj has had a career year numbers wise, the team gave him tons of support. Now Quick is back, but hes been out a long time and probably has some rust. His groin is becoming a real issue health wise. And they have a lot of back to back games coming up, with no room for error if theyre going to make the playoffs. Long story short, Bish allows there team to return to a more up tempo scoring style and can take some of the work load off Quick. And they didnt have to sacrafice much to bring him in. So perhaps a goalie will fix their scoring issues?

Ok, my bitching about Holland may have been premature. Nice move. We have too many middling D'men and this will give some younger guys a shot at increased roles.

Great job here by holland. I wonder if holland gets offers for green now... he could be an attractive piece for a lot of teams.

If they get a first for him, not really selling that low. But, I would agree with you, not worth getting rid of him if all we can get is a middle round pick.

Hollands been working the phones all night and we have all day tomorrow. Should be a big day for us tomorrow i think. I believe we have the number 1 forward and number 1 Dman available at this point (unless landeskog and duchene move). If nothing happens tomorrow ill get a tad bit more anxious. If it hits 3 pm wednesday with nothing done ill go full breakdown and disavow Holland. You have my word.

Zero interest in taking brown and judging by the trades we should be able to get a 1st and 2 2nds for vanek and smith or a 1st,2nd,3rd we take brown we'd better get a lot more than a first
