Jamie Oleksiak nets the Stars a conditional 4th. https://www.nhl.com/news/stars-trade-jamie-oleksiak-to-penguins/c-294176484?tid=278542340 Good news for us, I suppose, as Oleksiak isn't any better than Jensen or Ouellet.

Howard's cap hit is 15th in the NHL. He's paid exactly like an average starting goalie. Yep, I've long been a fan of trading prospects for proven players either in or just entering their prime. You don't trade them all, but some of them. What could they have gotten for Nyquist and Sproul in a package a few years ago? People are too afraid that the kid that gets traded will turn into a monster when it's more likely they turn into a middle of the road player.

This is a major part of our problems in the last 5+ years with our organization. We covet and want to keep our average talent with hopes of the player improving beyond which is likely realistic. IMO...we need to start trading these average players while they have still have value and start getting pieces that have proven ability...EVEN IF this puts us in situations where the evaluation of the trade seem like the Wings didn't get the "better" of the deal. I'd rather get a solid 2nd/3rd liner who can play RIGHT NOW and trade away some players who are going to be "projects" but show they have a lot of potential, than to sit on these guys who don't pan out and get nothing for them. This would also, in turn, help our cap management strategy which is garbage and has put us behind the "8 ball". Tired of this organization and all of their high hopes and pet projects when it comes to player development. Many of the players in GR which we all (myself included) tend to over hype and salivate for when looking at their performance in GR, or in Traverse City training camp. Yes, we need to have some patience and they need to be given a fair shot at making the Wings club. But their needs to be a shorter decision point, and if they can't cut it, SOME (not all) of these guys need to be packaged up and included as assets in potential trade deals. Our organization seems to think that success in GR is going to translate in to solid Wings/NHL players and it's simply not the case. The overall success of the Griffs has at times blurred the optics on some players who we think will be superstars for the Wings one day. Screw "one day". I get annoyed every Sept when i read article after article about training camp and how X or Y player is going to be a "Stud" down the road. Wings need to be more decisive with their talent decisions before it's too late and they just rot in GR/AHL the rest of their careers. There are only approx 600 players playing in the NHL...the odds are low that many these pet projects the Wings love investing in will play in the NHL..or at least not play for very long.

I dont think many are anti Mrazek, I think its more of a response to the over the top pro Mrazek fans. At least that is my take.

I hope you're just talking about Chaps, because as far as I've seen Mrazek has been the target of far more fan vitriol than was ever directed at Jimmy. In general the worst ever said about Jimmy is that he's average, overpaid, and couldn't win us a Cup. All that was also said about Mrazek even starting early last year, with much worse coming by the end, to now you and a few others basically saying that anyone who thinks Mrazek can still be a good player must be stupid. Mrazek has ability. Even in the last two years he's had good stretches. He is now basically the same age as Jimmy when he was a rookie. Whether or not he can identify and correct whatever issues he's been having is certainly a valid concern, as is the question of what, if any, length we should go to to keep him. But this whole anti-Mrazek movement seems mostly predicated on the desire to exact revenge for perceived slights against Howard. It's distracting.

    Leafs vs Wings

The difference between the Leafs and the Wings is Auston Matthews. The Leafs got lucky. The more people criticize Holland for "NOT DOING WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!111oneone," the more I find myself rooting for Holland and his vision (or his alleged lack thereof). I would love -- love -- for the Wings to jump back into serious Cup contention within the next 3-5 years without kneeling at the altar of "WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!111oneone" and groveling at Lady Parity's feet. Because f*** you, Parity. You were implemented because Ken Holland was too good at his job and the Wings were too successful. If our sole motivating purpose as an organization is to climb out of our hole on our own terms and spit in your face on our own terms, I'm ok with that. The Leafs haven't won s*** in half a century. The last time they won the Cup, the Beatles were still together. The Wings have missed the playoffs once in the past quarter-century and our non-Matthews 2017 team is no less competent than a non-Matthews 2017 Leafs team would be. If "spinning our wheels" for the next three years means we pick in the top ten of the next three drafts? Awesome, I'm down. If not having a McDavid or Matthews that we have to pay a billion dollars means we'll be that much better positioned to sign a marquee UFA or two? Awesome, I'm down. Do your worst, Parity. The old gods, the true Hockey Gods, will smile upon the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Red Wings will spit in your face. Bring it.

People will think you're trolling because of your abrasive way of saying it like it is but you're actually right. There is a standardized stat that you can judge goalies performance with called QS%. It stands for "Quality Start Percentage". It's basically the Quality Starts a goalie has divided by the number of games he's started. Now what is "Quality Starts"? It's basically the number of games where a goalie has had a save % greater than the league average save % for the year OR at least greater than 88.5% when faced with 20 or fewer shots. Sounds simple right? Just divide the number of games a goalie plays above league average by the number of games he's started and you get his Quality Start %. Pretty standardized way of judging. Long story short, the average Quality Start % in the league for goalies is 53%. Jimmy Howard's career quality start percent is 55.4% which puts him "above average" in the league (so yea Bill you were wrong with the Howard = Average thread years ago). This year Howard's Quality Start percent is at a whooping 59.1%. So despite what people think with these 9 losses or whatever, Jeff Blashill is not wrong and the franchise is right to keep him as the starter. Howard is WELL above league average this year for the # of games he's played. Mrazek's career Quality Start % is 53% which is exactly at the league average. So remember, Howard is 55.4% and Mrazek is 53% for career. Which means while Howard is an above average goalie, Mrazek is at average. Here's where it gets embarassing for Mrazek. Just for this year, Mrazek's Quality Start % is 14.3%. Freaking 14.3% bro. That's 40% below average. That is absolute TRASH. He's literally the worst goalie in the league right now. Now of course if you compare Howards first 15 games to the last 8 games it's not going to look pretty. But overall he's still hovering at a good level especially after this game with the Panthers (even though it was a loss, he played well). Now people might wonder why is QS% even the measurement used right now? Well QS only looks at the games a goalie has started and removes the bias from the games they get put in to relieve a goalie. So it's only looking at the games Howard and Mrazek started and doesn't count the ones where their sv% or gaa was ruined because they came in as a relief.

Great example of liberal journalism. I lived long enough to witness soviet propaganda in it prime - around Afgan War, Moscow and Los Angeles Olympics. I was a teenager living in small town in Siberia and I truly believed that hundreds or even thousands blacks are getting lynched every year in America... Soviet propaganda was all lies, liberal journalism gets soviet propaganda a new life - its far from being just a lie, only the title tells you wrong story and few has time and courage to read full article.

I don't get it with a lot of you guys on here. I post something humorous on here to lighten the mood of a lot of posters who are down in the dumps over the recent Wings performance and I get slated for wasting posters time who want to engage in actual conversation? Give me a break, only a complete moron would have taken it seriously in the first place and I assume there's none on this site anyway considering all the intellectual remarks made on most other threads by posters. It was posted to try and lighten the atmosphere as our team struggled to gain a win, but obviously not met in the manner it was intended. I apologise profusely to anyone who's time I have wasted and endeavor not to do so in the future. The word is , sarcasm

Well gee whiz. Hope you didn't get any splinters climbing up that cross. Here's the thing; some viewpoints/opinions ARE without merit. That's just reality. I have no problem accepting contrary opinions, only with the ones I think are baseless. If that's not readily apparent it's only because I'm not going to spend that much time arguing against something I think is reasonable. You made some points, I made some counter-points. If you want to address those points, I'm more than happy to discuss them further. But I'm afraid it will take more than hurt feelings to convince me of anything. So if you want to get mopey and call me a dick for saying you're wrong, don't expect a sympathy card. You can't fax glitter anyway.

No matter how much I disagree with someone, I at least respect people enough to give value to what they say. (Even if I think it's absurd) I am sorry that you can't give me the same courtesy. No more point in continuing a discussion. You can't reason with someone who thinks your entire ideology or belief system isn't just flawed, but irrelevant or without merit because they can't accept other viewpoints besides their own. It's not enough to disagree, its like that person isn't even worthy enough to have an opinion. I am sorry. I will make sure that I confer with you next time before I have an opinion so that I know its ok to have one.

and why ? Because of the process and you take a semi legit top 6 player and throw him on the 4th line..why? For the process
