Just an update on the situation called LCA thanks Learn2 for the number. I was told single game tickets don't go on sale till Aug 24 so not sure how the prices for seats are sitting out there currently maybe season tickets and packages? LW while you are talking ticket prices the additional insult is the fees Ticketmaster/StubHub etc charge for passing tickets through. So you buy a ticket at X price add in X% to get the bloody thing pure pure ripoff but you really don't have a choice if you want to see concert, game etc.

Meh. The "generational" discussion is a semantics tar pit. Is Dahlin a "generational" talent? Maybe, maybe not. Does he appear to have the makings of a "generational" talent? Maybe, maybe not. Is he the most promising and exciting teenage defenseman in ages? Yes. Is he the most promising and exciting teenage defenseman ever? You could make that argument. (Lidstrom himself has said as much.) McDavid is the safest 1st overall pick you can make. If Dahlin is a less safe 1st overall pick, it's only because he's a defenseman. 2015 McDavid is as close as you get to "guaranteed franchise centerman" and 2018 Dahlin is as close as you get to "guaranteed franchise defenseman." Dahlin is an incredible hockey player. The HYPE! surrounding him is warranted. You couldn't ask for a better defense prospect.

Hell, we almost had Gretzky himself! https://thehockeywriters.com/wayne-gretzky-almost-joined-the-detroit-red-wings/ ESPN’s 30 For 30 franchise featured the trade in one of their documentaries, interviewing all parties involved and chronicling the events that led up to and consequently followed the seismic trade. In the documentary, Gretzky mentioned that he was allowed to pick his next destination and that decision ultimately came down to two teams: the Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings.

I've seen two prospects be touted as generational in the last decade. And after watching game footage, I wholeheartedly agreed. Those two players are McDavid and Dahlin. If ya'll still need convincing on Dahlin, I will patiently wait. I'm quite happy to hedge my bets on this player. In my view Buffalo just drafted an Erik Karlsson that's good at defending.

Yzerman because of his career here. Leadership, attitude and work ethic aside Stevies best years here were something else. Between 87 and 92 he put up some absolutely amazing numbers: 87- 50 G 52A 102P (in 64 games ?!) 88- 65G 90A 155P 89- 62G 65A 127P 90- 51G 57A 108P 91- 45G 58A 103P 92- 58G 79A 137P Those stats are insane, 732 points in his best 6 "prime" seasons (and they just so happened to be all back to back). If you took Feds best 6 seasons not back to back but overall it looks like this: 90- 31G 48A 79P 91- 32G 54A 86P 92-34G 53A 87P 93- 56G 64A 120P 95- 39G 68A 107P 02- 36G 47A 83P Feds totals up to 562 points in his best 6 seasons, that's 170 points less then Stevies best 6 seasons. Feds joined the club 3 years into Stevies 6 year tear and put up some amazing numbers too, just not nearly as crazy as what Yzerman achieved. The fact he was through and through a class act just puts icing on the cake.

That's a fair point about Ras, and hopefully he improves there. He's kind of the anti-Veleno in this regard...where Joey V racks up the primary assists.

My simple thought on Dahlin is "caution." It is very hard to extrapolate a player's potential at 18 years old....it is even more difficult (much more difficult) to do so with a defenseman.

"The Wings are in cap hell!" Zetterberg is headed for LTIRement. Kronwall has one season left. Nyquist is on an expiring contract. Howard is on an expiring contract. Vanek's on a one-year deal, and the most we'd probably get for him at the trade deadline is a 3rd-round pick, so I really don't care that Holland gave him trade protection. The Leafs have kicked the tires on Glendening. The Bruins have kicked the tires on Helm. The Wings are poised to have a s***-ton of cap space next summer. If you're going to knock the Wings for being in "cap hell" and not even acknowledge this, you are bad and you should feel bad. "The Wings are too old!" See above. "The Wings don't have any truly special young players!" So, the Wings are too old and this is problematic, and also their young talent is unremarkable and this is problematic. It's almost like they're only a season and a half into their rebuild effort. It's almost like they're in that "We lack elite young talent, so we need to have a few really good drafts over the next few years, so we're gonna flip veterans for picks and finish in the bottom eight for a few years, and when we free up a ton of cap space (a fast-approaching inevitability) we're gonna go HAM after marquee free agents and probably land one" phase.
