We will see if he is as bad as you try to make us believe. None of the picks from Zadina on are NHL ready, we still have to wait and see whats with Quintin Hughes. Zadina wasn´t bad, the expectations are probably a little to high. All you hear about him is "he´s hard on himself and working hard". The rest will come, he´s got a pretty good toolset and will play with some really good players in GR. If he doesn´t play a real good season in GR this year I might start wondering if it was a mistake to pick him, but not before that.

Let's finish this preseason on a high note, yes? I'm in the mood for spitting in adversity's eye and giving it a wedgie. HYPE! LGRW!

Same. His pace is still a little behind too. Unsurprisingly I don't think Veleno is ready either and will be looking forward to watching him on the Griffins. I assume Hirose makes the team, but boy I'd love to see Svech make it. Just want to see the kid get a win tbh, must've sucked to have been injured for an entire season, especially considering I thought he looked really good last preseason prior to the injury. Sorry to hear this, much love friend.

The Zadina hype was a bit over the top and now the Zadina bashing is a bit overblown. He hasn't been terrible, he's been mostly invisible. I don't see him making a lot of really stupid plays, he's just not executing. You can tell he's peeved at himself for not chipping in. His body language screams "frustrated". That's a whole lot better than detached or lazy. I firmly believe he'll come around...it's just going to take time.

    Rumors Thread

    >Be Buffalo >"Hey, we might be kinda sorta good this season. Let's do this." >"OH S***! ONE-DIMENSIONAL POWER PLAY SPECIALIST WITH A BAD ATTITUDE! HAVE OUR 2D AND TWO 1ST ROUND PICKS! WE DON'T NEED THE PICKS! WE'LL BE FINE!" >Narrator: "They were not fine. Laine was a disappointment in Buffalo. Ristolainen thrived in Winnipeg. The 2020 pick was not lotto protected; the Jets got Quinton Byfield."

Yeah, they'd no business being in a shootout. They sucked most of the game and were totally dominated 3v3. Svech, Seider, Smith, and Turgeon were standouts for me. ...and of course Bernier without whom it'd have been a massacre. Veleno had a couple good plays...no major gaffs that I noticed. Zadina was pretty much invisible. Hicketts had a rough game being pushed around a lot and a couple giveaways.

Svech to Smith! Now THAT was a nice play. Kaski with secondary assist.

Smith with a fight and a goal! Pretty play!

    2020 Draft Thread

he is at a point/game rate in the DEL, 4 games and 4 points and the same in the CHL. Last years DEL topscorer had 57 points in 52 games. As you can see with Seider, playing against men at the age of 17 is only going to help you. He is not going to have the same situation as a NA player where it´s NHL or juniors. He is having experience against men and the option if he doesn´t make the team in his draft year he could play AHL right away

Leave it to me to be defending Jonathan Drouin's honor as Mantha prepares to tear the NHL a new butthole. I am a dingus. 100% certifiable. Anyway. About Mantha. This goes without saying, but Looooooord Almighty would it be nice to see Mantha realize his true potential this season. Imagine he does. And imagine Bertuzzi establishes himself as a 50-point player (if only while playing with top talent). And imagine AA cements himself as a legit 30-goal scorer. Now imagine drafting a monster winger in Alexis Lafreniere/Lucas Raymond/Alexander Holtz and adding that player to the forward mix, a mix which also includes Veleno, Zadina, Rasmussen, et al. Bertuzzi Larkin Mantha Athanasiou Veleno Holtz Hirose Rasmussen Zadina Erne Pearson Svechnikov

It's almost like he stopped developing the moment we drafted. This entire preseason he has been slow, weak, and skating with his head down looking at the puck. You can see there are hands there, and you can see there is effort there, but his brain is stupid and his body is weak. When he finishes this season in the AHL he will be 6 months away from 21, and if he has less than 50 pts and less than 30 goals and is still getting out scored by Carter Camper he's gonna start smelling extra stinky for a 6th overall...

Whoops! They're so similar I get them mixed up sometimes

That, and I think he also needs to get stronger in his legs and upper body. I'd expected to see more power and explosiveness in his skating stride after what I'd assumed was going to be a very intense summer of Rocky montage training. Anecdotally, I haven't seen it. I was also expecting him to be or at least *look* better equipped to handle the pushing and shoving and boxing-out and grinding and headhunting of the pro game. Anecdotally, I haven't seen that. (Skating is part of it.) There've been times where he's narrowly avoided a big hit and I've felt my heart skip a beat because I was honestly afraid he was about to have his spine snapped, Bane style.

My buddy started a hair metal(ish) band about a year ago. They're finally touring the Pacific NW this year. This seems to be their most popular song on youtube. HYPE!

This is why I wouldn't do it. Mantha will out produce Drouin by 20 points this season...

How is Tkachuk at all comparable to Mantha, Athanasiou and Bertuzzi? Tkachuk has exceeded what all three have done at this point in their careers, and is 4 years younger. A better comparable for Tkachuk, despite position, is Larkin. Even then, Tkachuk has had better production and is 2 years younger. Larkin was signed to a very good contract. Tkachuk is signed to a very good contract. And there's not a doubt in my mind that all three of Mantha, Athanasiou and Bertuzzi will be signed to very good contracts. If Mantha has a huge season like I expect him to (35+ goals, 65+ points), he might be in the ballpark of what Larkin's making, but he still won't get anything close to $7M, maybe not even Larkin's $6.1M. That goes for Athanasiou and Bertuzzi as well. Tkachuk had 77 points last season, but everything else I agree with. If I were to guess, based on the season I think the three will have... Mantha - 4-6 years, $5.5-6.5M Athanasiou - 3-5 years, $5-6M Bertuzzi - 3-5 years, $3.5-4.5M

Sorry for no liveblogging. Medical emergency in the family. I might be less present here indefinitely. Or maybe I'll be posting even more frequently to keep my mind off things. Peace
