Only if he's taking Kindl's spot. Otherwise we have enough dman kids on the way.

He played on the same Swiss team as Zetterberg and Brunner that year. I'd imagine Z has a good idea of what this guy can do, and if he got offered a tryout I'm sure that Zetterberg must have given a nod of approval.

Does anyone think that DeKeyser isn't signed yet because they still don't know the status of Alfredsson? Signing one, or both of them could dictate the amount and length of the deal. If Alfredsson signs for 1 year, they could tell DeKeyser to take a 1 year 2 million deal and then sign long term but if Alfredsson retires then they could offer 5 years at 3.5 per or something along those terms.

Don't know anything about this guy but you can never go wrong with a PTO and be it just to push the other guys

Rather just play Marchenko. But since the Wings seem opposed to young D getting any ice this year, rather him then Kindl.

I said this in another thread, but if you look at their numbers, Diaz and Anton Stralman are basically the same player. The biggest differences seem to be that the Rangers went to the Cup finals so Stralman immediately gets a bump, and Diaz was mismanaged by the Canadiens so his icetime is a little lower. Either way, provided he isn't rusty I'd sign him and dump Kindl or Lashoff. Why not?

Diaz is the exact same player as Anton Stralman, one of the guys everyone wanted Holland to sign as a UFA. Diaz will come cheaper and do about the same things. I'm for it. Cut Kindl, or Lashoff, or whoever if the kid shows he can play.

Detroit offers D Raphael Diaz tryout

Even if he doesn't take Kindl's spot (I really doubt he will), offer him to a two-way contract he looks like he can still play and when an injury happens you can call him up. No way all 6 D-men play all 82 games. If he doesn't keep it up in the AHL, you can always leave him there and bring up one of the kids. win-win. Maybe Holland read your post in the Offseason thread lol.

These tryouts are usually more about pushing the other players to work harder. Competition for jobs is a good thing.

I don't watch these guys play often, so I'm by no means an expert regarding these two players. But from what I know they both are better then Quincey, and they both are being paid less then him. Kind of my point that UFA's are paid more the RFA's. Gardiner has 3 full NHL seasons under his belt, Schultz has two. DD hasn't even played 82 games yet. This indicates to me that DD will get something like 3 years at 10-12 million or 1 year 3.5 million. Less per year, but maybe more term then Schultz since Holland really seems to love this kid, while Edmonton is a mess. Something that the Wings should easily be able to do cap wise despite Quincey.

    Nice article on Mantha

I don't get why people say "11 points in the world juniors..." The kid scored 120 points with Val last year, he had 20 more points then the next player on the team an 30 on the one after that. Babs and Holland have both said how exciting it is to have a natural goal scorer like him in our system, and the first one in a LONG time! I'm stoked for how this kid is going to compliment our current kids Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

While I do not love the Quincey signing, and I am NOT defending it. People need to realize that a UFA does command much more then an RFA. Especially when the RFA has not even yet played 82 games. (I am not saying Quincey is better or more valuable then DD, I am just saying that in hockey its all about what a player commands given his status) Also, I don't think the Quincey deal has anything to do with DD not being signed yet. If Holland didn't sign Quincey, he probably would have gone out and signed or traded for another veteran D, If we landed Niskanen, Boyle, Erhoff etc. nothing today would be any different, if anything the cap situation would be even tighter. I think they are just waiting to see whats going on with Alfie to see how they can structure DD's contract......either way, lets just wait and see.

If it was the same injury both years I'd be more worried. Sports hernias can linger for a long time, once they figured out that's what he actually had, it wasn't really surprising that he missed the rest of the season. Everything I've seen says that he's completely healed now and should be good to go. As long as he doesn't try to hide another injury, he should be fine.

Weiss has been working with Gary Roberts all summer as well, done wonders for guys like Stamkos, Neal, Benn, etc. Even if it just ups his endurance and can help him stay healthy, it'll be huge. I'm of the opinion the guy is gonna have a huge bounce back.

He probably likes skating with one of the worst defensive corps in the league, to make himself feel better and faster.

Having a team in Vegas is great for those days when Bettman wants to get away from the wife. "Honey I need to go check up on Vegas. What's that? Why am I packing so many thongs? Uh... Uh... Cab's here, gotta go"
