xault reacted to MileHighWingsGuy in Off-season moves
Why AA played limited minutes is a thread in and of itself. The dude is flat out the only guy I turned on the set to watch most evenings. People complain about limited scoring last year and dude rides the pine for long stretches of time because he had to pay some sort of dues before getting playing minutes while Sheahan skates like he's done something. My biggest fear with Holland now is what will he screw up further before he leaves? I really don't want to see the trade he'd make. Just give us another losing season, get rid of Holland and we can start digging out.

xault reacted to kliq in JVR in play
Just create a Holland is an idiot thread then, or pull up one of the many anti Holland threads. It just gets annoying when every thread turns into the same rhetoric.
Anyways....JVR is a good player, but we don't need wingers, and we especially don't need expiring contracts when it will take young talent or future assets to get them. I actually agree with @frankgrimes, we need the same thing that the Leafs need, so it's not happening.

xault reacted to chaps80 in 2017 WCQF: Nashville Predators vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Well, at least we legitimately have things to complain about. They still have a hell of a team and three cups since 2010. Watch, now that their core is older and the team is trending downwards from the unstoppable force they were even a couple years ago, you'll see quite a few of their "fans" jumping off the bandwagon. They already can't handle being down 3-0 in a series two years after winning a Cup and I guarantee some are one loss away from torching their Hawks gear. Once they start missing the playoffs again you'll start seeing the return to 5000 fans a game at the UC.

xault reacted to frankgrimes in Chris Illitch speaks: Holland will stay - Blashill's future is up to Holland.
Franchise 1: 2 cups in 5 years
Franchise 2: zero cups, basically first round exit bound
One fires their coach and GM and the other one is happy with status quo, go figure.
Oh well if Chris doesn't bring in in Stevie next year it will be clear that he doesn't have the same drive for excellence like his dad did.

xault reacted to chaps80 in Rate Yzerman, Lidstrom and Zetterberg's leadership during their runs as C's
Yzerman may as well still be captain. Lidstrom, while a great player, wasn't much of a captain. He was simply next in line for the "C" due to his on ice abilities and being with the team since The Streak began. The year he won the cup as captain, i'd say Z was more integral to the championship run as far as leadership goes. Not saying Lids didn't play a big role as well, but out of it all, the moment I recall most is Z killing off that late third period 5 on 3 frustrating the hell out of Crosby or anyone else who touched the puck. But while Z has better leadership abilities than Lids did, he doesn't come close to Stevie. Playing the entire 2002 cup run on one leg says it all. Pretty well any other player would have packed it in.

xault reacted to kickazz in What if Datsyuk didn't leave for the KHL
Indeed, Datsyuk was a hell of a player but the article is moot since Datsyuk was injured most of his KHL season anyways. He was done as an NHL player and likely would have been injured longer this season if he was still here.
Now if Datsyuk played most of the 82 games then I'd say instead of being a 13th seed team we would have been the standard 9th or 10th team as we have been. If he was 2008 version of Datsyuk maybe we would have been 5th seed team.

xault reacted to LeftWinger in 2017 NHLTrade Deadline Discussion
Who sits for the new Dylan? Kronwall? Doubt it, so ya, he will take away from one of the kids. Kronwall won't sit for more than a game here and there because Ken Holland.
All hail the 3rd worst team in the league with the highest payroll in the nhl! All hail the GM who refused to clear cap space off next year's roster, because what if Nyquist 2014 returns? Next season well be worse with an even higher payroll. All hail Ken Holland! He got us some low picks to chose another or two 5'11" d-men that weigh 156lbs.

xault reacted to Glubki in Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick
Maybe the truth hurts? I'll meet you back here in 3 years and we can reassess bragging rights. To me this is the start of the tear down and Griffins/prospects are unknown commodities. Meanwhile Z gets older and the defense is still porous. They dumped grit and a solid scorer for chump change and got an unexpected return for Smith. Nothing else has changed and their picks are in a weak draft.
Tatar, Nyquist and Larkin were supposed to elevate the squad this year and you are banking on mid-tier prospects for a playoff run? Sorry but I see a two more years of pain with more selling next year. Patience isn't a bad thing in hockey...

xault reacted to xtrememachine1 in Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick
Considering what we got in the Smith trade, everyone expected more with Vanek considering he's actually been pretty good for us. If you had told me two days ago, that we'd get a 2nd and 3rd for Smith and a 3rd and an AHL d-man for Vanek, I wouldn't have believed it. Considering we gave up a first to get Kyle Quincey a few years ago, you'd think Vanek would be at least a 2nd round pick. Apparently, below average d-men are worth more than snipers in the league right now. This is probably the best deal Holland could get for Vanek. Having said that, if d-men are valued more on the trade market, he absolutely should have traded Green and maybe Ericsson too.

Fleeced on this one. Couldn't even grab a 2nd or a player that actually plays nhl minutes

Well done Kenny!? We give away our best goal scorer for what in return exactly? Someone who will drop the gloves and what else? Have you noticed he has just about never played a full season? Yikes

Not t at all impressed with this trade. Should have been a much higher pick. With all the prices for rentals through the roof this year, we should have easily gotten a 1st for Vanek, 2nd at the very least...

Is it the Vancouver fans or the visiting Wings fans finishing "Livin' on a Prayer"?
And ... now it's tied. I guess that's what we get for finishing our scoring in the 1st period.
