That would be so awesome. I used to always imagine that if hockey was like wrestling, a player would fire a puck into his own net in a tied playoff game - removing his jersey to reveal the opponent's sweater.

I think the general consensus was less "go boston" and more "f*** vancouver, I hope they burn in hell". We just picked boston because most of us dislike the canucks more than we dislike the bruins.

    Zherdev and Emery?

Franzen's cap hit is 3.95 million. What he actually makes this year is irrelevant. He also scored 59pts (and 31 goals) in 51 playoff games over the course of the 3 seasons prior to this one. It's hard to hold his s***ty performance against him too much this year since he was too injured to skate at times. Scoring 31 goals over 51 games would average out to 50 goals in an 82 game season. So basically, come playoff time Franzen's the equivalent of a 50 goal scorer. I'm not sure what your problem with him is. We all wish he'd be more physical out there but it's not like he isn't pulling his weight in other areas...

I wasn't speaking to how much the government should pay; but the government has paid in the past and likely would be receiving back well beyond what they spend in taxes. Losing the Oilers would cost Edmonton, and Alberta, more in tax revenue long-term than paying for 100% of the project. It's like the reason that some tax incentives for businesses are good things; by creating more business, they actually increase the total tax revenue from that business.

government must stay out of it as far as possible. it is a nice try on owners side to take advantage from socialistic-leaning government, though.

OK, so I'm like a kid with her nose pressed to the window of a candy store, still wishing and hoping the Wings can acquire Weber. Because it sounds like some of you here whom I trust for your opinions think there's still a chance.

Draper was making over a mil last year and was in the pressbox quite a bit. Hudler and Ericsson were healthy scratches last year and were making well over a $1 mil. Commodore is an injury prone, -17 defenseman over the past couple years and was waived by the friggin Blue Jackets. He'll be adequate stepping in as a number 6 defenseman in the event of an injury, but I don't feel like Commodore is a solution to our defensive problems. "Getting used to" Commodore being a 6th defenseman is like saying "get used to getting knocked out of the second round again". Better options are available and unless these defenseman want too much, there's no reason not to go with one of them.

They haven't done that for a while... They've gone down in PIM ever since Burke left them (granted they are still near the top).

You do realize that plus-minus has no real meaning? And beyond that, that giveaway and takeaway stats are not representative of defense? Or shooting percentage of a player's shooting ability. For example, Z took tons of shots last year, often putting the puck on net in low quality chances. There would also have been many shots of his that were simply blocked or missed the net, and counted as giveaways. Ovechkin faces the same kind of situation. Take a lot of shots, you'll probably see a lot of giveaways to your credit. Takeaways are more accurately defensive, but are we playing defense with the stick or the body? What happens if we force a turnover instead of stripping the puck? Stats can be misleading if you believe them to mean something they don't. Especially if used by someone to display a particular belief.

    Backup Goalie?

Osgood's numbers are good as well... and as I've already stated, if his health wasn't as big of a concern, I'd be all for bringing him back... that's a bad example, if anything it just proves my point... Hudler has 1 year on his deal, Nabby has one year on his deal, we need a backup, NY needs scoring and cap to hit the floor... it makes sense. Also, this isn't the NFL, trades in the NHL are a COMPLETELY different animal, so that's a poor comparison too... I have zero idea where you're going with this...

    Backup Goalie?

    A. If Howard gets hurt, then he would have to start. If he doesn't then Osgood would be just as good. B. 40W 38L that says it all. Losses are high, he doesn't win cups. Osgood? 129 GP 74 Wins 49 Losses 2.09 GAA .916SV% 15 Shutouts Yeah, so the numbers don't really impress me as much. C. Don't really want to get into any argument over Osgood, or the teams in front of both these guys. I will be the first to say that the Sharks had a ton of really crappy under performers in the playoffs, with no clutch skills. However, the Wings have looked like that the last couple of playoffs. That is, they don't look hungry. Nabokov has been around that, so I wouldn't want to trade resources to acquire him. Sort of the way I wouldn't trade to acquire Detroit Lions. Might sign one, but never trade for it. Right Dallas? Well, if everyone is so worried about health... Why not sign Osgood, and trade for Nabs later if he doesn't work out?

    Backup Goalie?

I would rather keep Hudler, just because Nabs never was a great playoff goalie, and Garth Snow is a tool.

People getting pissed off about the Jets name need to cool their....jets. Sure the old jets are in PHX but it's a completely new franchise with no association to the past jets. Its like saying if your house burns down; you can't buy one; you have to build you own. I mean; its not your history in that house. When you buy a used car you must always refer to it as "Billy Gilmans" car since that's who owned it first and put all these miles on it. The city of Winnipeg owns the history. Clearly the people in PHX don't give two s***s about the jets history when they don't even care about their own team enough to fill the seats. Where did Selanne score all of his goals? Was a single one scored in PHX, AZ? No; so why should that city have the rights to own that history? It happened on WPG soil and needs to stay there. Everyone bitching needs to shut it and think about it for a sec. The love and joy the Jets brought so many people doesn't live on in a desert in the US. It lives on in Canada; in Winnipeg. Congrats to TNSE for listening to what the fans, players and even retired jets wanted.

He's a lawyer. That means chances he is a liberal are very high. Then, if he's a liberal, then it is in his blood, government must help him, otherwise <...insert any threatening...> get rid of this *******, the sooner, the better. One word. Capitalism. Many seem to forget this simple word.

Regardless of whether or not the owner has the fund to finance a new building, it should not be the taxpayer's responsibility to pay a dime for it. With the amount of cities having to make cuts to important services (I do not know the state of Edmonton's finances) they should not even consider becoming banks for the NHL.
