What on Earth could you possibly have against Budd Lynch? The guy has been a Wing for 63 years, is in the Hall of Fame, and loves hockey more than probably everyone on this board, combined. The guy is an absolute legend, and familiar voice to those who have been Wings fans for years. Besides, he's just the PA announcer, it's not like Erich Freiny is going to make any difference. But don't worry, at 94, he'll probably be gone before a new stadium is built anyway.

My favorite thing about the Joe is that it's not named after some s***ty corporation. I know the new one will be, but I really loved the fact that the Joe was named after something relevant to Detroit's sporting history.

Nothing against enforcer(s),but don't want to see us becoming Bruins/Kings like team. Yes they won it by chasing,dumping,trapping and fore-checking,but the key is still Conn Smythe winning goaltenders. Step 1) Sign/trade for Bobby Ryan and Colton Orr Step 2) Do a Vulcan Mind Meld Step 3) Put Colton Ryan in as a goal-scoring forward to do our fighting. Step 4) Get Bobby Orr out there to play defense. Ok, now that I've got the silliness out of my head, I would not mind having Colton Orr on the team. The enforcer debate has been done to death, and I've given my nickel's worth time and again, but one thing the team seemed to be lacking, especially during the playoffs, was joy. I know that sounds silly, but they all looked like they were going through the motions- like they were just doing what they were doing but had no purpose. One thing we always hear about with guys like Downey (for example- not saying "bring him back") is how they lift the spirits of the other guys. They kind of act as an internal cheerleader. They build them up when they need the confidence. Enforcers are commonly the "funny guy" in the locker room. No, not that way. Get your minds out of the gutter. I mean they're the guy that cracks the jokes and lightens the mood. They get the team up before the big games, and then go to their place in the press box. Or they play and do their duty. Sure, we need a defenseman. We need a top six guy. We know who most of us want for those spots. July 1st only comes once a year. I'm sure Kenny will be focused on those two, plus any backup plans should those guys get snapped up quickly. But we also need a guy who can bring the joy of playing hockey back to the locker room. And that, my friends, could very likely be an enforcer. Go for it, Kenny!

Several topics have been focusing on the offseason, and the pressure is clearly on Ken to shake things up. Personally, I feel that we need at least one sniper, and at least one grinder for the bottom 6 that will give the 4th line some identity and make this team harder to play against. Obviously, a guy that can contribute offensively once in a blue moon, and a guy capable of skating a regular shift. This list (To nobody's surprise) will focus on the grit aspect. Seeing as you don't know anything about how HFboards prospect rankings work ill break it down for you: Each team has its own prospect reviewer, the reviewers for teams like Pittsburgh and St Louis have had some really liberal reviewers the last few seasons so their ranks are inflated compared to teams like Detroit who the last two years have had a guy who likes to be a lot more conservative on his projections. The people writing these projections tend not to be any more knowledgeable than your common HFboards posters, so I don't put much if any stock into the grades that they post. They do however write pretty good analysis of strengths and weaknesses.

lol... bobby ryan is 25 and had 1 less point then franzen last year in his "s*** season" (57 points) with a 15.2 shooting percentage which is higher then johan has ever had. ryan s*** season point total ironically enough is actually 2 points less then franzens career year. if in ryan's s*** seasons he gets 2 less points then franzens career year... what incentive does anaheim have to swap a consistent 25 year old (4 years 30 goals is consistent) for an 32 year old who is consistently inconsistent? seems quite foolish from their perspective.

"The Wings would have won if they played like the Kings"....In order for us to play more like the Kings, we need to add a little snarl to our lineup (Which LA's lineup has, in the forms of King, Nolan, Fraser, Mitchell, Clifford), hence the list of players that would help us play like the Kings. But you're right, I just want a bunch of goons in the lineup to pile up penalty minutes. The list would have featured more top 6 players and 1st pairing defensemen, had it actually been focusing on top 6 players and 1st pairing defensemen. Had it been about top 6 players and 1st pairing defensemen, it would have turned into another Parise/Suter thread, just like every other ******* thread so far this summer. Also, Pavelski and Brown are diving pieces of s***. I don't want either of those dickwads on the team, so that's another reason I didn't bother to mention them. You caught me though. I just want nothing but goons on the team, which is why the whole list is full of absolutely nobody but talentless goons that can barely stand on their skates like Pyatt, Oshie, Carter, Slater, Campbell, Burish, Downie, Martin, Tootoo, Winnik, Crabb, etc.

Smith is far more scrappy than Yandle. He throws plenty of hits, and has an edge to his game that is absent from Yandle's. The Kronwall comparison is pretty bang on. They're comparisons. I don't think that anyone is saying Nyquist is going to be the next Datsyuk. As mentioned, a lot of these comparisons were made by Red Wings management and staff, so I suppose they're ridiculous too. What do they know about hockey?

Prust is exactly what Abdelkader needs. Abdelkader is forced to be the toughest guy on the wings and isnt really great for that role. Hes a physical, agitator, middleweight type that if riding shotgun with someone like Prust could really go wild out there. With Prust to back him up, Abdelkader could run around and do his thing while still having a player that can play some decent hockey with him. People on here always ***** and moan about how useless tough players are and that the wings dont need them, but I know for damn sure that a fourth line of Abdelkader, Konopka and Prust would be better than this years fourth line. That line would have an actual identity, 2 guys who will fight just about anyone and another who is a solid middle weight scrapper so they could all run around and crush guys as much as they wantand very few teams in the league could have an answer for that line.

He's a better hitter, fighter, better defensively and he's scored more points in a single season then Abdelkader has. He's a better hockey player then Abby, and there's a reason he's out late in games for New York because as a 4th line "goon" as most people would like to call him, Torts trusts him. And if Torts trusts him, then so would Babs. Plus, I'd rather have Abby AND Prust on the same line, then comparing them.
