Really, people? This is how you show gratitude and respect for the guy who took a heartbreak of wreckage, turned it around, and gave us four more Stanley Cups and made us the envy of the league? Not to mention whatever he's done with the Tigers and for the city of Detroit and his charitable contributions. I hope some day you get old and see how you like it. Kids these days.

That's the beauty of it, with Franzen's play style he can play until about 60 years old!

Not everything is about scoring goals. Give me a player that scores less than Franzen but gives 100% on every shift.

While of course he's done things that benefitted him financially (he is a successful businessman after all), he's also made business decisions that benefitted Detroit when he could've gone elsewhere. I wasn't saying the guy is a saint. My main point is I think it's a little childish to slander someone as senile and drunk, particularly on a website called "LetsGoWings" when he's a large part of the reason there's something to root for with the franchise.

That's the American Dream, isn't it? I agree with 55fan - this forum in general has gotten a lot more whiny and a TON more disrespectful since I joined back in '07. The man single-handedly put Detroit back on the map as a sports town. He has provided most of us (including me) a hockey team that has made the playoffs in almost every year I've followed them with his own money... and don't think he was making wild profits back in the lean years when he was giving away a car every game to get people in the seats. I think he deserves a reward - both in money and *RESPECT* - for bringing sports, fans and jobs to my favorite city in the world.

Suter was going to struggle anywhere he went, once he no longer had a team full of defensively responsible forwards, in a defensively responsible system, with one of the best goalies in the league, and probably the premier defenseman in the game to make him look like a superstar. At his best he's a good defenseman, not a great one. Gets paid like one though.

I don't really know much about his kids, but I know a couple of people who have met or worked with them briefly and they all say the Ilitches are down to earth people. Now, that doesn't necessarily equate to competent ownership, but it seems like they will continue the style of ownership Mike Ilitch has used, which is good.
