It all depends on what Calgary wants in return. He's a UFA at the end of the season and he holds all the power so hopefully that lowers the price on him substantially. If it doesn't I'd rather steer clear of this. If it does however lower the cost to obtain him he'd give us a good upgrade in size, and skill for the top 6. He'd add another RH shot for the PP and an element of grit in the top 6 that we currently lack. On top of that he'd probably be the hungriest guy on the team for a chance at a cup, kind of like Dallas Drake did for the Wings when it seemed every player wanted to win for him as much as themselves. That kind of thing can be a great motivator for a playoff run. I'd be ok with giving up some conditional draft picks based both on whether he re-signs with the Wings and how he/we perform in the playoffs. I might even be willing to give up a prospect depending on which one the Flames wanted. Hey maybe we get really lucky and they request Cleary as part of the deal.

Trade him now and get something good for him. All his nifty puck handling hasn't done s*** at the NHL level and it's only going to become more difficult once we move east.

You don't realize what helm TRULY brings to this team, aside from being the best 3rd line center in the nhl, he brings a lot of energy and heart every shift, every game. Every line literally plays better when he is in the lineup, he just causes everyone else to play better. Ever noticed how deflated we became against trashville when Helm got injured in the playoffs in his first game back, ya I believe that we lost the series as soon as Helm fell on that skate.

Can't wait for Helm. Having him and Tootoo in the line-up at the same time will give us a physical presence we haven't seen since probably 2008. Should be fun to watch.

One period. IMO a summer of hard training will help Tatar and Nyquist. They both have all of the skills, but a little more strength on the puck and in the corners would help them immensely.

Happy to have helm back but too bad it's at the expense of nyquist. I mean in all honesty helm should be playing with nyquist and Tatar to make up the deadliest 3rd line in hockey

I wouldn't spent 1 cent on acquiring Perry let some other team throw away their cap space for him. Rather wait longer until something worth going after is available and Perry is not that player.

Ya, I said in my first post yesterday that the only way I would be ok with dealing our 1st is if we got a their 1st back (which should be a lower pick, but with the players available, we should still get a nice player.) But I agree, I do not want to just give our 1st away either... You are correct about the $6 and you may be right about the $8, but as soon as Holland realizes he needs to spend real money to get real talent, then this team will start it's turn around much quicker. Enough overpaying old guys and low balling the guys we actually need...

If Bertuzzi's back is bad enough to hold him out all season, Holland better consider a buyout on him and hopefully he retires.

It might not be the best idea of a fair trade but your name kinda gives away your attitude about losing nyquist. I think there is something there around fil and perry with us adding a first rounder and decent prospect. Perry is the kind of player we NEED. Hard nosed and scores a butload. I'd be willing to overpay in that case. Not 8.25mill but in the ballpark of 7.5millper over a long term deal.
