A better way to predict on how many points we will end with would be to give us 2 for every game we should lose, and 0 for the games we should win.

Wow. I probably should point out that EVERY SINGLE goal ever scored by a goalie is lucky. It's not like they're out there taking one timers, so to emphasize it's "luckiness" is sort of redundant. The luckiness of it is what makes it so rare and odd. Like a freakshow, but with less terror.

Though every team has a "road vs home difference", there's nothing to prove that the "difference" will stay in place over the course of an entire season, or in this case ... even a shortened season. Your point makes no sense. For instance, even though the Wings had no PPG's on the road in their first 30 some chances ... you couldn't make a valid conclusion that they'd never score a PPG on the road all season. Past play is somewhat predictive of future play, but it's impossible to draw absolute conclusions. Look at Columbus. Who could have predicted that they could go 11 or 12 games without a loss? ... but they have.

I hate the entire "On Pace" argument when it comes to stuff like this.. we could go on a 10 game tear and shoot up the standings, we could go on a losing streak. Depends on who we are playing, how their goalie is playing, how much the opposing team is scoring and what kind of game Howard is bringing to the ice. Point being who the hell knows where we are going to sit once playoffs start, i'm in favor of just watching how the games unfold instead of picking apart useless stats and predicting our future. Fact: anything can happen in the remainder of the season. That's all we know.

Okay, what some people also seem to miss is that the current CBA really is built to reward young teams, With the really favorable ELC rules, veteran teams are not the best way to win in the cap world. Add to this that Gaustad got a first round pick in return (a career fourth liner with decent face off ability) should show you that Cleary, White and Flip could all fetch a first rounder or even more.

Nice logic and I fully agree here. Being sellers when there aren't a lot of sellers, especially in a shortened season is the right thing to do. Let's face reality here even if the Detroit Red Wings are making the Playoffs, it will not be a deep run so what is the point? Just to get in and bounced out against some western juggernaut team? I'd rather look at the big picture here and say screw the streak, get as many draft picks as possible and finally not having to pin so much hope on high risk high reward picks. I've looked at the list and there are lot of good defenders available in this draft class, if Holland can get a second first rounder for Filpula, I say go for it and draft a shutdown and offensive defenseman in the first round, or use both to move up. But anyways I am starting to dislike this league a lot, enjoyed the pre 2004 days much more and trade deadlines, UFA days actually meant something back then.

Wings have proven to be a good team, we just need to get our act together. We are inconsistent much like they were, except we've actually been in the playoff seeds for the majority of the year unlike them. When the wings play against Vancouver they looked very good, if that team shows up to the playoffs they could go on a run, especially with experience playoff performers. Not saying it's likely, but the chance is there, this team isn't a bottom dwelling team, it's a bad Red Wing team, but it's still an above average NHL team.

Well most people picked them to win the Cup before the season began... they just underperformed all season. I am tired of people using that logic just because LA won the cup from the 8th seed... they were a top notch team that finally got their act together.

The Wild have been in Minnesota since 2000. They've never had a better regular season than Detroit - this seaon isn't over yet. And they've only had one playoff that was better. That was the year after Detroit won the cup, and 5 years before Detroit's next cup. Also, where the f*** were you last week when the Wild were in 10th or whatever? Your acting like an *******, and it's transparent. That's all I have to say.

You don't hate to say I told you so. Seeing as how usually only show up here after a Wings loss, it's exactly what you hope for. Apparently you didn't get all the taunting out of your system over on hfboards. If you have a point to make about the game, make it. Keep appearing just to stir things up however, and your stay will be short lived. A pre-emptive warning, let's everyone just stay on topic about the game.

It all depends on what Calgary wants in return. He's a UFA at the end of the season and he holds all the power so hopefully that lowers the price on him substantially. If it doesn't I'd rather steer clear of this. If it does however lower the cost to obtain him he'd give us a good upgrade in size, and skill for the top 6. He'd add another RH shot for the PP and an element of grit in the top 6 that we currently lack. On top of that he'd probably be the hungriest guy on the team for a chance at a cup, kind of like Dallas Drake did for the Wings when it seemed every player wanted to win for him as much as themselves. That kind of thing can be a great motivator for a playoff run. I'd be ok with giving up some conditional draft picks based both on whether he re-signs with the Wings and how he/we perform in the playoffs. I might even be willing to give up a prospect depending on which one the Flames wanted. Hey maybe we get really lucky and they request Cleary as part of the deal.

I could just smell the NHL selling out hard and giving the divisions awesome corporate names. Tampax, Charmin, Huggies and Vagasil would go really good with half the arena names. I want royalties for my idea. Or we can be even more injured than usual when our guys get murdered along the boards.
