Keep Tootoo, Drop Cleary
Dabura and 3 others reacted to Wings_Dynasty for a post in a topic
Since some people seem to be confused with the thread title, I officially re-dub it: Keep Tootoo, Please Kenny DO NOT Sign UFA Cleary As Some Media Outlets Have Reported That You Wish To Do Because He Is A Drain On The Team And The Cap And Tootoo Would Be Better For The Team On The Fourth Line Than Cleary Would Be On The Third. -

Samuelsson: IR to All-Star?

I blame Holland more for offering that contract, than I do Sammy for signing it. -

http://thehockeywriters.com/detroit-red-wings-mikael-samuelsson-ir-star/ Of course he's not going to be an actual "All-Star", but I'm also of the opinion that Sammy gets to much flack for a guy that never had a chance to show he's worth his cap hit. I think having him and Helm back will really give us some good options at forward. Plus Sammy did play in Florida with Weiss, though I'm not sure how much they played on the same line. -

Samuelsson: IR to All-Star?

Hahaha My personal fave was during the '08 finals. For some reason the NHL stops giving us the CBC/Versus/NBC/local feed during the finals and gives us a special "international" commentary that treats the viewers like idiots. Anyway, the intermission interviews are always a Euro from each team and they always finish the interview by saying "would you like to say something in you native tongue for the folks back home?" and the player will give a line in whatever language. So one game it was Sammy for Detroit. Dave Strader: Mikael, one last thing, would you like to say something in your native tongue for the folks back home? Samuelsson: Not really *walks away* -

He wastes a roster spot. That alone means he isn't worth his cap hit. He isn't worth the dirt under my shoe. -

Actually, even at the time it seemed like an awful signing, and many people here stated so. As usual, we wanted Holland to target a bigger winger, and not a former washed up player. The no-trade clause ticked even more people off. Sammy was coming off an injury season. Also, many people were calling for the young guns to get more playing time. The signing was pointless even when it happened. This isn't hindsight being 20/20. Just a bad move by Holland, much like the Tootoo / Colaicovo signings and the Quincey trade. Let's hope Alfredsson and Weiss turn out much differently. -

Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)
Wingsfan72 reacted to Dabura for a post in a topic
I'm sorry, but, like I said in the new enemies thread, this whole "Similar record" business smells. The Red Wings are the Red Wings. The Senators are...the Senators. I mean, bless their hearts - but what have they ever done? "Well, this one time they almost won the Cup." OK, great, they almost won the Cup once. My point stands. Even last year - they got torched by a Penguins team which was absolutely destroyed by a Bruins team which was beaten decisively and definitively by a Blackhawks team which we had had on the ropes, 3-1 (before we forgot how to play hockey, which, admittedly, is a problem with us). And that was without Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart. And, for the most part, DeKeyser. We were a team "in transition" (or, "reloading"), not a team that was looking about as "stacked" as ever (see: the Sens). Maybe the Sens finish above us this year. I highly, highly doubt it, though. And you can bet it wasn't just the money (or the Swedes) that Alfie had in mind when he signed here. -

Lidstrom can live to be 100, win 5 consecutive terms as Swedish Prime Minister, be awarded the Nobel Prizes for Peace, Medicine and Literature, win the Oscar for best actor for his portrayal of Gustavos Alophus in Sean Avery's 9 hour epic "The 30 Years War", be raised to Sainthood by the Roman Catholic Church, all to go with his 4 Stanley Cups, Olympic Gold, World Championship gold, 12 All-Star appearances, 7 Norris Trophies, and 1 Conn Smythe. And on his deathbed, all he will be able to think about is that last second shot that he fired straight into MAF's chest. -

NHL 12 and NHL 13 were travesties, and I don't expect NHL 14 to be any better. The withdrawal of 2K Games from the next-gen console hockey market removed any impetus for EA to be innovative or even really to care; I wouldn't be surprised if the EA NHL team got cut in half after NHL '10. Ever since EA gained a monopoly in that area, each successive game has been similarly lacking in polish and has been differentiated from its predecessor by mostly inconsequential features just numerous enough to seem substantial; no doubt EA holds back features every year so that they may be put in the next iteration, or perhaps the one after that, and so the games are never as good as they could be. More, EA fails utterly to address the major issues that have plagued the series for years, and is generally awful at patching the games even when gamebreaking bugs are apparent. I played NHL '09, '10, and '11 religiously, but NHL '12 was so terrible that I dropped it after six weeks, and I barely gave NHL '13 a shot at all. I certainly won't be blowing my money on NHL '14. EA Sports has been voted worst company in America in a major poll for two years running, and that tag is well deserved. Unfortunately, the number of people who buy the games is still more than sufficient enough for the company to never make any changes in its methods. Oh well. -

2009 was worse in retrospect. The Wings won numerous Cups after the 1995 loss, while they've only gotten worse as a team since the 2009 loss. Of course if we win another Cup with this roster, it would quench the bitterness, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Also, they were never close to the Cup in 1995. They were freaking swept. Game 7 at home is as close as you can get to winning the Cup There's so many plays and bounces you can look back on in that 2009 series. What play could have turned the 1995 series around? Hard to point to any, since the team got beat so easily. -
1 pointRumo(u)r has it "Alfie" sneezed in public, on a crowded street in Ottawa, and no one said, "(God) bless you." When asked about it, a few of the people who'd been there said, "Well, he didn't say, 'excuse me.'" For his part, Eugene Melynk defended General Manager Bryan Murray, saying, "I know Bryan. We work together. He wouldn't lie about this." Which is interesting because Murray hadn't said anything about the incident.

Regarding your reference to Kronwall...it is not an enforcers job to fight someone who made a legal open ice hit. The effects of Kane punching Cooke in the face are not quantifiable. You perhaps don't understand the role of an enforcer/agitator... it may include fighting, but doesn't have to. There wasn't a single fight in the Chicago series if I re-call but I think the Chicago players who were gooning it up (Bickell, Shaw(?)) definitely played a part in swinging the momentum that resulted in Detroit losing the series. I would have liked to have had our own guy out there... a Shanahan, McCarty, Downey, Tootoo to to give some back. Fact is, Tootoo is the only guy on our team right now who will do that... the rest of em act like emotionless automatons most of the time. Long story short, I think an agitator who is willing to drop the gloves (Tootoo) is highly beneficial to a team... at the very least it's extremely entertaining to watch. -

I used to be excited about NHL X but that time is long gone, so here is what I expect: - slightly improved textures if even that - former gone features now being introduced as new and super-gameplay relevant - better music pool of artists - incomplete rosters so basically a rushed version of NHL 13 with some updates. Why can't companies just pass 1 year, release an updated roster and come back with a real improved one in 2 or maybe 3 years? That's just mind boggling. -

Joakim Andersson re-signs, 2yrs, $1.465m ($732,500k cap hit)
KATIEBARTHEDOOR24 gave a reaction for a post in a topic
This guy was outstanding down the stretch and in the playoffs. He's risen to be our #7 forward and is still getting better. There is no way the Wings are still undecided and making Andersson prove himself. Andersson did Kenny a favor. Kenny will repay it in July 2014. 4 year extension. 1.75 mil per year.
