Kronwall and Smith didn't get murdered playing together at all. They did it the entire time E was gone and were fine at both ends. That's why I suggested the pairing -- Quincey and Kindl don't make Smith better, but Kronwall did. Also, I hardly recall Smith playing with DeKeyser at all. Maybe Lashoff some, but Smith's partner was almost exclusively Quincey before E was hurt. I do agree that getting another d-man is imperative regardless. Someone that can move the puck and chip in offensively is a big need for the Red Wings.

    John Tortarella Re-Mixes

Don't Push me will be in my head for days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G76eadv6ZM&feature=player_embedded I posted one in the Flames vs Nucks thread but I thought with there being a 2nd one that it was worthy of its own thread.

I agree. He's had a rough go this year coming off an injury plagued season straight to a groin issue and a sports hernia. After the Olympics, the real Weiss will be back methinks. Add him to the line up we have and we're looking good. Add a healthy Franzen and we're lethal. I think that this year is a real lesson for Kenny and Babcock showing that you don't always have to be overripe, but ripe is good too. We have a great future at forward and with the likes of Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen and Mantha on their way as well, we're looking good. Add to the mix a guy or 2 out of Callahan, Tuzzi Jr, or Nastasiuk and you got some sandpaper. On D, Ouellet, Sproul, Backman, Marchenko, Jensen and possibly De Haan sounds good if I remember correctly, we have a bright future there too. Then you have Mrazek and Patterson to try to steal a job from Howard in the coming years, all the naysayers claiming the Wings are "done" now that Lids retired have no clue whatsoever and they forget that despite Holland's latest signing bullpoop, we still have great scouts that whisper some pretty damn good names in his ear at the draft table.

Call them the Thieves....since they basically stole the roster spots of Bertuzzi, Cleary and Samuelsson... or Career Enders for the same reason...

    So what do we call the 26 - 15 - 21 line?

Two Toms and a Tink. The Future Line. The Fighting Slovaks. ("Fighting" for Sheahan's Notre Dame) The Graduated Griff Line. JST ice (pronounced justice). The Replacement Parts.

They don't, but it sure beats discussing whether Kronwall is a top 30 dman...

Strangely enough, that mish-mash would be the best looking of the 3. Smith plays really good with everyone not named Quincey.

If we make a move draft picks are going to be huge. We can't offer much in terms of players, but we need to offload someone for cap reasons if we want to acquire anyone. Since Cleary won't net us anyone, we'll have to package a lesser guy with a draft pick or two. With how stacked we are down the pipeline, I'm perfectly find with tossing draft picks around (to a point) like candy if it gets us someone who can help.

I think its almost safe to say Holland won't be making any moves this year...(again) He said he was going to wait and see how the few games before the olympics go before he decides to make any moves, and with a few points in a few games he'll probably sit tight again. If anything I could see a very minor move, hopefully getting a 5th or 6th defenceman in return without losing anyone valuable. (quincey not included) Plus with the added cap issues, there isn't much Holland could really pull the trigger on if he wanted to Next season is going to be interesting because there will definately be moves, Holland has no choice. So many players ready for the big club and no longer waiver exempt so that is going to be interesting.

Whatever you call them, I really like how Jurco consistently finishes the body for a skill guy. Good stuff! esteef

I just want him to get well soon and even if he is holding back in order to be ready for the olympics so what? The guy has given fans and especially this organization so much joy, he now has a once in a lifetime opportunity = captain your national hockeyteam in the olympics in your fatherland ! All I know is, I will enjoy watching him showing off his magic on the big ice. All the best Pasha

So you want a different set of rules. Which will benefit the teams that are more likely to throw cheap shots. IMO, that attitude is stupid. The rules are the rules. If something is a call in the first 2 minutes, it should be a call in the last 2 minutes. Either way the ref's decision affects the game. If he makes the call, it benefits the team that should get a PP. If he lets it go, it gives the team that committed the penalty an advantage where the other team was probably called for a similar penalty and had to kill a PP earlier in the game. As a player I want consistency above all. If you're going to call everything. Fine, I'll know that. If you're going to let things go, fine, I'll adjust my game accordingly. But if you're going to let 6 blatant trips go and then call someone for tripping when a guy falls on his own, that's when I get pissed.

It’s not the number of penalties, it’s the timing. Today, Washington were given two early PPs to get rolling and one final PP to end the game. It reeks of being scripted. That being said, I love that The Red Wings don’t dive (usually), don’t whine, and have a coach that never uses officiating as an excuse. As a fan, I mostly try to follow suit, but sometimes it’s so ******* infuriating to watch.
